Glad you confirmed the information. I was trying to research the info my aunt relayed to me while I was doing our family tree.. that was that my family's lineage to the Watsu Africa Tribe.
I admit My ignorance of the situation and although I understood the difference I didn’t hear which one was almost wiped out. I was kinda looking for something about that. How it was believed to have started and such. It this was wonderful history of the people.
It is the Tutsi tribe that almost got wiped out by the hutu tribe and the colonizers,it was basically started by the colonizers who wanted to rule the country forever so Tutsi were against that and demanded that colonizers leave the country, but hutus were fine with the colonizers staying and ruling the country forever as colonizers had brainwashed them to hate Tutsi to the core by calling Tutsi foreigners who occupied hutu land all of that was a tactic of colonizers to steal the country and keep it themselves, matter or fact they have assigned a different country where each tribe came from saying Tutsi came from ethiopia, hutu came from chad and twa came from ituri in congo, the colonizers literally wanted to make themselves as the natives of Rwanda,Tutsi were a huge threat to colonizers hence why they sought to exterminate them with the help of hutus,so they put hutus in power with that genocidal agenda, that was the main thing all hutu governments did, just to kill Tutsi with no reason until Tutsi formed an army to defeated them after the 1994 genocide against Tutsi where more than a million was killed in just 100 days.
Just found this channel. I am a young Irishman who has always been fascinated by Africa and it's many cultures and peoples, which probably stems from my father who was born in Nigeria (his parents having went there teaching English and building houses). I love to see a channel like this that promotes African history and Culture. I have always seen similarities between the Irish and the Africans (especially those enslaved by the Imperial powers of Europe). To me it is always a shame as a proud Irishman to be lumped in with the British and Americans imperialists as 'white people'. The Irish have fought against British imperialism since 1169 AD in a conflict which my ancestors fought for many conflicts, in a conflict that it still on going. I just thought I would say this to let people know that we are not like the rest of them, on the contrary, we're very opposed to them. Love the channel! Peace to all
I love history and knew how far Irish people have suffered from British imperialism in their sole and how rough British have been to them as migrants in Britain for centuries. I know also in pre or aftermath of industrial revolution, Irish have suffered in England, accused of most of crimes, arrested and hang without proper investigations on the matter. I live in Australia and know some Irish in here who also talked about what you said. Unfortunately, many people don't know history and think all European were colonialists.
Yes, your ancestors fought very hard. When I hear about the Hutus and Tutsis I’m reminded of the brutal battles of the Irish and Scottish against the British.
Sorry to say this but speaking from a person who is actually from their, the Europeans came and divided us. It’s sad to see my so called Burundian and Rwandan people who used to be the same are now separated.
Great video! I'm fulani from Guinea and I've always found the tutsi people from Rwanda had some similarities with us (nomadic shepherd for example). There are so many of our stories that not only need to be told by us but movies that are written, produced and directed by us. The first people, where we control the narrative about the greatness of the Black race. Not just in Africa but black societies all over the world before the colonizers. I enjoy listening to your videos and you sharing the many hidden truths of our long forgotten history .
We have history but don't think we are that great considering the mess we are in, the white man new we wasn't that great. That why he had the confidence to do what he did. They took advantage because we had many kings not a few kings. Africa made up of so many different parts its was easy to conquer. Still we have no great defence against Western powers, because our heads stuck in religion.
Beautiful people. Incredible history. All people of the diaspora should be extremely proud of where we come from and the greatness of our ancestors. I love this channel! Thank you!
One of the oldest Somali Calture Song says "Abatutsi-ga ab baanu u lahayn". Meaning, abatutsi is= Traditional game like Somali Dhaanto. Ab = origin , u lahayn = belongs to us. The complete meaning is, this traditional game (abatutsi) belongs to us. I read many books about Tutsi people and where the originally came from most of them described The tutsi are descendant from Oromo Ethiopians and Somalis in the Horn of Africa.
And all others, even Antarctica is a mess right now. Admittedly it might have been less problematic to be limited to the own continent of origin but given the 100 year war, 30 year war and napoleonic slaughter before any local genocide, suggests the European culture might not have been aimed at harming anyone but have that default. 😕😔
@4 Fake as a whole they definitely helped. I understand their unconscious intention of all these assertions thrown upon Europeans, but the truth do still exist
So essentially, European colonialism infiltrated an indigenous African society and applied backwards, racist ideologies into the system already in place, which created discord, disharmony and war among the local populations. Interestingly, it seems like the ancestral Tutsi migrants who came into the region did so peacefully, intermarrying with the local agriculturalists at a high degree.
I do think its intersting how the Tutsi "invasion" was relatively peaceful...what conquering force intermarries with the local population and even adopts their language?
They used that divide and rule tactics all over Africa. In Ghana they refused to educate people of the Northern part so after independence Nkruma built clusters of public schools and made them free for them so they can catch up with the southern belt.
Sounds like europeans were thinking for either group. How can a stranger come in and tell how to think about your kinsman? We need to get our heads out of the sand and think for ourselves. Stop blaming people.
My dad (84) just left my house- while he was here he told me his paternal grandmother was Watutsi. I had no idea. He said she was very tall with a very long neck- and a beautiful singing voice.

amanda ray I tried telling people in the 90s these charter schools were no good for our children. Most of them lost or never had accreditation, and have since closed. This after draining public schools funding and hence displacing thousands of children. Children have to be bused to schools outside of their neighborhoods and even the cities they live in! Not to mention the curriculum has put the children in a “ I have all school year to complete these assignments when I feel like doing them “, type of mindset. There are literally no deadlines or sense of urgency to do anything! How can this prepare you for life or for providing for yourself?! Charter schools are taking children’s initiative away by not promoting a sense of continuous achievement!

Burundians and Rwandas have their history in Burundi and Rwanda. There is no evidence of somali origin and even the video says nilotic which is not somali or abyssinians. That whole of deviding Burundians and Rwandas was started by christian missionaries when they came to Burundi and Rwanda. They spread information that tutsis were hamites which is a mythical people which somalis and abyssinians are apart of. When germany was defeated in east africa and belgium took over burundi and rwanda, they introduced identity cards in 1933 because race was a social class and the identity card meant that no one could switch due to their economical circumstances such as having cattles etc. The new missionaries also were a different branch of christianity and they started supporting different groups of people for their cause. Burundians and Rwandas are that. We share similar culture, language, etc. There is no hutu, tutsi, twa culture, language etc. There is no evidence of somali language in burundi or rwanda, and there is no evidence of islam before colonialism as somalis abyssinians have long history of islam. I am Rwandan and I would like to make some clarities on this video about the History of Tutsi,Hutu and Twa .First of all.Rwanda was inhabited by 3 categories of people from different backgrounds. The First wave of migration to Rwanda was by "Basinga people"who came from Nkole of Bahima in Uganda and arrived around 300 AD .The second wave of migration was by Bazigaba people who also came from Nkole of Bahima in Uganda and arrived around 300 AD.The third wave by Byanyiginya people who came from Oromo or Galla people in Ethiopia and arrived in 700 AD.I must mention that Gihanga father was from Banyiginya and his mother was from Bazigaba. The theory that Gihanga was a Tutsi is not true because Gihanga reigned between 1081 and 1114 AD before the Tutsi ,Hutu and Twa concepts (Social Classes) were introduced.I must also mention that Hutu Tutsi and Twa are not Tribes. The Tutsi,Hutu and Twa concepts were introduced in 1345 by Kilima Rugwe who was a king that ruled between 1345-1378(200 years after Gihanga had died). The analogy of Tutis,Hutus and Twa was exactly the same as Nobles ,Clergy and Commoners in Europe .The intention of introducing these social classes were just to create a society full of rich people and leaders who can solve problems in the society. In fact ,the criteria for belonging in a Tusti class was to be rich, unbderstanding of the royal and political matters, ability to fighta nd die for the country and willingness to help and support Hutus to become Tutsis in the future. This means you could be a Hutu today but if you work hard you could become a Tutsi tomorrow. The intention of the king was to ensure that every Rwandan becomes a Tutsi, and that all Tutsis must ensure that they help Hutus and Twas to become Tutsis.
Hi Vincent! I believe this is the version of history that I'm familiar with as well, one of these being social classes as opposed to pure ethnicity. But given that other peoples from Sudan and Somalia corroborate the presence of batutsi in their culture means there's some ethnic distinctions and different origins and history, right? I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The ethnic distinctions existed but were later morphed into social classes to serve political agendas, no? I'm trying to make sense of it all because our African history has really been manipulated over time.
I'm really confused and not convinced by this history, especially when it comes to know how those three ethnic groups came from different areas but abandoned their origin mother tongues to adopt Kinyarwanda as their common mother tongue!
nshimiyimana jean baptiste I understand you.First of all,Kinyarwanda is very similar to Lunyankole which was spoken by Basinga and Bazigaba when they arrived in Rwanda. Then Banyiginya when they came they had to adopt the local language. So the Kinyarwanda that we speak today originated from Lunyakilima which is a language that originated from Lunyankole

Just my conjectures here: These Tutsis remind me of Fulanis in West Africa. Similarities: They probably came into the region in a relatively recent history. The infamous cattle herding and nomadic lifestyle. The complete openness to live among their hosts and intermarry. The habit of installing one of theirs as chief within the community. They also look Fulani. Again, these are just my thoughts.. I wonder if the Fulani lost a group that ended up in Rwanda lol

A very great rendition of the Rwandan story especially as it concerns the Hutu/Tutsi dichotomy. You were apt in highlighting the herder and farmer occupation as the root behind the social class that grew but it had some checks that gave a sort of balance pre-colonialism. The French came and removed those checks without regards which turned the Tutsis into the Lords of the land and the rest was history. My main points of contribution is to discuss the best future of Rwanda as acceptable by all Rwandans which most people gloss over till date. If you notice carefully, you'll see that hardly does any Rwandan of the Hutu side introduce himself as such before making any comment on this thread. I've been observing this trend even on other forums that discuss this history of Rwanda. I think certain things need to be sorted out before we can feel the situation has been diffused permanently. This is my opinion and I might be wrong. Firstly, I want to appreciate President Paul Kagame for stopping the genocide and helping to bring the people together and build a country that they all can enjoy. It is no mean feat what he has achieved. I write having in mind that some people may not see him in this light for reasons which might be stronger than I know (I'm not a Rwandan neither am I an expert in Rwandan history). These are the salient points we must consider when discussing the sad history, the present and expected future of the country. 1. What were the fears of the Bahutu that led them into carrying out the genocide? Are those fears born out of genuine threats or were they baseless? 2. Has the government of Paul Kagame done enough to really assuage those fears of the Hutus? He's been in power for about 27 years which doesn't appear like democracy is reigning in the land. Some call him a despot irrespective of the giant strides he made to elevate Rwanda. Is a stable Rwanda foreseeable post Kagame? One thing that humans must understand is that as long as one group of people feel they alone should govern others and hence look down on them, conflicts are bound to arise and in this case of the worst proportion. We must do all we can to avoid these sorts of conflicts by devolving power and in some case having fences rather than pretending all is well simply because one party remains silent when everyone one else is singing 'Khumbaya'. NB. It is my utmost desire that all Rwandans have put behind them the sad history and together are forging a bright future for all in an all inclusive government and political participation. Same language, very similar belief systems, shared history and many more sounds like a recipe for a good nation building if we can shun segregation and nepotism. I write this with the benefit of hindsight from Nigeria's own history. You can't build a nation without treating everyone as equals. May God bless all the people of Rwanda.
They killed because government officials made propaganda The fear of others can lead to this From 1959 to 1994 The Belgian master removed the kingdom and established the republic And decided the majority hutu should rule Its a long story The tutsi was depicted as master returning to overlord the hutu That's 1 of the resson
it possible change of power comes with alteration in some way of doing things, even in this age there many thing which have change in any tribe which were practiced, most of it came with this european manupulation which most people like to deny for what ever reason
Thank you for this understanding, Kaka Mdogo, bless you. I am beginning to see how the abandoning, for whatever reason, as seen in the Kongo Kingdom, of our age-old values and systems can be so devastating… yet these are systems that we can build on and achieve the African Renaissance. It’s not a small matter because without African Renaissance, which implies setting up systems within African civilization, the current struggle for economic liberation cannot be won…. This is because it is only our authentic aspirations that can drive such an economy. And aspirations, in turn, come from self-determination, which itself comes from identity, which is born of culture, spawned of civilization. For now, we, Africans, run our systems using borrowed or enforced European aspirations…and the lender of aspirations controls the dreams, thoughts, actions, destiny and EXISTENCE of the borrower. This is why wa henga (the ancients) said "Mwaacha mila ni mtumwa" in Kiswahili roughly translates into “He who abandons their culture becomes enslaved” We can only entrust our future to ourselves; Therefore we have to generate our own aspirations, which come, in four steps, from our civilization as discussed above.

As a Rwandan I would just like to say I really appreciate this video on a rather difficult and complex subject. It was handled very well with proper facts.
Thank you.
Facts 💯💯
Peace to all
I loved your message
Your message will be valued 12,000 years from now buddy. Fix yall problems. Your problems is not our fight.
Damn I didn’t know this. Will definitely let people know ✊🏾
I love history and knew how far Irish people have suffered from British imperialism in their sole and how rough British have been to them as migrants in Britain for centuries.

Still now.

@@KeeshYah_Yahu now they have been helping for fkn centuries and how is Africa? Quite horrible.
very fun they’ve been exploiting or centuries lmao
So essentially, European colonialism infiltrated an indigenous African society and applied backwards, racist ideologies into the system already in place, which created discord, disharmony and war among the local populations. Interestingly, it seems like the ancestral Tutsi migrants who came into the region did so peacefully, intermarrying with the local agriculturalists at a high degree.
I do think its intersting how the Tutsi "invasion" was relatively peaceful...what conquering force intermarries with the local population and even adopts their language?
Well it was a decision to stick to the colonizers ideas instead of sticking together with Tutsis. Africans generally need to do better.
They used that divide and rule tactics all over Africa. In Ghana they refused to educate people of the Northern part so after independence Nkruma built clusters of public schools and made them free for them so they can catch up with the southern belt.

Mara the Akata stop looking for Caucasians to be interested in something that’s European History. Every educated European knows the truth about Africa and melanin people. African History disproves capitalism, they don’t want that truth to come into the light! Melanin people are socialist by nature.
amanda ray I tried telling people in the 90s these charter schools were no good for our children.

@@richardredmond1480 you african americans are ignorant beyond belief!!!
Stupid am not gon let you get the chance.
Thanks for the clarification!
That's also the history I know

It's so good to see my people of other nations on here chatting and communicating without insult. That's what the enemy wants confusion and no one talking to find out what happened or who we really are.much love to you all and be careful.
Kendall Bledsoe I’m not sure if I’m included in this, as I am Irish and not of African roots, but yes, it is great to see people from other countries communicating and learning more about each other! I was inspired to learn more of African and in particular Rwandan histories and cultures by Stromae, my favorite singer and songwriter. He is half Rwandan and has mentioned tutsi/hutu tensions in his songs previously, so I really wanted to learn more about the roots and background of this amazing guy. I absolutely love his work (and him) :)

Thank you for the info. I always wondered what caused the friction between them and knew Europe was in the midst. African cultural and race/tribe history is always interesting to learn about.
Sadly for the reason of exploitation the history of these people had been distorted. Your job of piecing the information is excellent and somehow will indeed be a participant to a new revival of those groups who have shared a common history until the evil interjection of Euro concepts in their cultures. Big up! Brother wonderful work.
Great stuff man. I am actually ethnically Tutsi Rwandan and it’s very rare for me to learn about my pre-colonial history. Thank you!

keep doing this important work sir. the word sound and syntax of the word TUTSI does fit ancient egyptian language patterns precisely. tut was a Egyptian word.
And what does "tut" mean?
At 14 I was sent home 🏡 to 🇷🇼 Rwanda from England 🇬🇧. Seeing my grandparents and asking their history was the best thing that happened to me.

This is why wa henga (the ancients) said "Mwaacha mila ni mtumwa" in Kiswahili roughly translates into “He who abandons their culture becomes enslaved”
We can only entrust our future to ourselves; Therefore we have to generate our own aspirations, which come, in four steps, from our civilization as discussed above.
Great info in this video. This just confirmed a conversation I had with an African brother this weekend. He was explaining to me that the Tutsi and Hutu people are the same people and only got seperated because of politics. I also thought they were two seperate enthic groups and languages so I guess I was wrong. Thank you.

Whenever ive seen egyptian mummies they were quite small in stature (even considering their shrinkage from death). The watutsi on average are quite "tall" in comparison. Im 5'9, brother 5'11 and my dad and uncles all in 6' ranges. So tho ive read of us having asian roots i cant see egyptian but u never know.
Tell me more, I’m Tutsi and Lebanese born in Congo. My mom always told me that the Tutsi were the original black Jews from the Nile and then migrated down which is why they’re called Nilotic. And the source of the Nile has been discovered near Rwanda and Ethiopia..
@@TalkEssence who in the world told you that Egytian people were Asian. Nothing Asian about them, they were from the South of the Sahara far below the Sudanic line. Thank you for this great piece of African history. I am fascinated by the history of the people of Rwanda/Burundi/Tanzania/Kenya/Uganda, the history of the Lemba (of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa), Great Zimbabwe, Zulu (Shembe), Ancient Kingdom of Kongo, Mbundu, Swahili, Cape-Malais, Kabinda, ... You can only understand Southern Africa and its populations through their respective histories. Again great work of history because your presentation is promoting peaceful cohabitation of ethnically diverse yet related people.
