Risa, thank you for this video. I have to be honest, so here I go. I'm 70 years old and will turn 71 next month. I stopped watching your videos because of the amount of makeup you were using. I understand that beauty influencers are also on RUclips to make money and I'm fine with that. I take great care of my skin and I love makeup. I have begun using less makeup because of how my face, eyes and lips are changing as I age. But! I'm wearing much less and it looks great! I truly appreciate this video and the changes you are making. I love your honesty and I'm looking forward to your next video.🥰
Boy, I am 72 and I needed to hear this!!! I love makeup and I have always worn a lot of it. Especially, eye makeup. I look ridiculous after a few hours when everything runs & settles into my lines!!! Still, I continue to do the same thing. I’ve always been good at application and I need to face facts - my canvas is just not the same!! 😂😂😂 Thank you for this intervention!! 😊
Right? I'm the same, although about 2 years ago I did quit smokey eyes and I just do brownish eyeshadow with a hint of shimmery color pop at the center of my lid and I'm loving this simple look.
51 is still very, very young as far as makeup application goes. I try to watch makeup tutorials from 60 to 70 year olds for realistic advice, but this video has really helpful tips. Many thanks!
Accelerated aging happens after menopause Aging is not as noticeable until your hormones change I looked young up until 54 because that’s when menopause started It’s not just a number it’s when the hormones shut off
That is true, but bone structure and genetics also play a big part. I look like my mother and her family have long faces and get saggy more so than wrinkly. I had jewels starting in my early forties. I finally had a facelift at 58. I was happy with the results but although a lot of my jowels were reduced, they were not completely gone.
You always look great, Risa, glam or no glam, but I 100 percent take on your advice. It takes a certain amount of bravery to keep it real - with oneself and with others - and let's face it, maturing isn't for wusses. Thank you for your never ceasing integrity in these matters. Love you!
I am 70 years old. I have discovered that my eyes look so pretty with just mascara and a light neutral shadow on my lids. I am blessed with large blue eyes. I get a lot of random unexpected compliments on my eyes. Even at my age I have very few fine lines. I totally agree with your point of view on make up. Thank you for channel. Never miss
I lived almost an entire decade wearing no makeup, 40-50. I'm currently 57 and literally had to re-learn a lot! I definitely invest in skin care. My make up routine is simple for everyday, I'm just looking for enhancement. Wet-N-Wild tinted Hydrator to neutralize, a taupey eyeshadow to recede the prominent eye bone, brow pencil for shape and definition, blush, Clinique Pink or Black honey on the lips and a tubing mascara. It's a 5 minute routine that boosts my confidence level but never looks like I'm trying too hard or just gave up.
Several years ago I quit lining my lower lids or waterline (except for an off white color on the waterline) and applying mascara to the lower lashes. This helps my 58 year old eyes look more lifted.
Sophia Loren said in an interview a long time ago that as we age we have to do a lot more to look like we’ve done less. I’ve recently come to realize there is no foundation for 60+ skin-skin tint, concealer on dark spots works best. If you let go of RUclipsr eye makeup (trying to create a crease, winged liner, etc.) and apply shadow, even shimmers, more simply it can look good.
I love hourglass foundation and use Estée Lauder double wear and I’m 59. My skin care, however, is pretty in depth and tbh 25 years of Tretinoin has kept my skin very youthful.
I don’t have issues with foundation and I am in this age group. I do find I have to purchase better foundations now that won’t crease or provide too much converged. It makes a huge difference.
At age 69, I am focused on clear skin & doing what I need to do to get it & maintain it. I really value clear skin. RE: makeup, at a minimum, I need eyebrow pencil, mascara, undereye concealer, tinted facial moisturizer, blush, bronzer & lipstick. I appreciate your honesty. Yes, things really change as we get older & aging is not just about wrinkles.
Thank you. I am nearly 64 and a full time pastor. I rarely comment but I love your channel and watch regularly and learn so much. I still like to be full glam every day as a professional and your wisdom helps me in so many ways. Blessings
Hi Risa I think rather than age it’s menopause that causes the extreme changes and that age varies woman to woman. I’m 52 but had my last period at 46 so I am fully menopausal. The texture of my eyelids has changed and that has meant less looks better. I’m a rock chick and still roaring around on a motorbike 😂 (even though I need a back brace nowadays 😢), so I was the queen of a smoky eye for many years. I started lightening that smoky eye in my late thirties but still had some drama to it, but I let it go completely in my forties as it just didn’t make me feel good anymore. I still like a little drama for a night out😂, but I wear much more natural makeup nowadays. During perimenopause I developed rosacea to go with the life long eczema so I actually needed more coverage than I had used before (I always used tinted moisturiser etc as I had clear skin). I still don’t use heavy coverage and use a green primer and/or corrector plus concealer where needed to keep the overall complexion lighter coverage. I’m super dry so I never liked high coverage makeup anyway. I use a lip liner and have for a few years, but didn’t need it when I was younger. I still like black mascara and mascara on the bottom lash (it suits my eye shape) even though I am pale and blonde although I also like navy blue mascara btw (brown is too red on me and makes my eyes look red). I firmly believe in changing up our makeup to look the best we can at every age and spend the most time perfecting my base as it is the canvas every colour goes on top of. Best wishes x
Thank you Risa for such good information 😊. I also appreciate seeing your natural skin and not a flawlessly fake face. I am 65 and enjoy all you do for women.
Hi Risa, I love your channel and have watched for many years. I'm 60 and also agree that as I get older it's 1) much harder to do eye makeup as my lids get more & more hooded and 2) when I have tried to do very much to my eyes it always makes me look like a performer who deliberately makes themselves up for the stage (which looks crazy for day to day). Thanks for helping me feel that I'm not crazy for thinking the more makeup I attempt to wear now, the WORSE I look. Could you also do a makeup tutorial for those of us who wear glasses and all the problems that arise from the glasses.
Iv been watching you for about 9 years, I’m 60 and we All change up our makeup as we age, I love your tips and tricks and I’m also a retired makeup and hair person from Tv, film and just a makeup lover!
I was told I had mature skin at 36. Now, I’m 66 and I know, now, that was BS. I have mature skin know. I love makeup. I love eyeshadow, and still use whatever I like including shimmers and foiled. It takes me 10 minutes. I love your content, Risa.
I don’t know what I love more, this video or the comments. At 52, I have realized my eyes look younger with far less makeup. I now use 2 eyeshadows at the most and some mascara on my top lashes only. Eyeliner and multiple shadows were making my eyes look heavy and thus older. I have noticed many of the makeup content creators I follow have been mentioning their views are declining, and I really believe it’s because they are out of touch with their audience. We all love makeup, which is why we watch their videos, but the elaborate eye looks and multiple blushes, bronzers, and highlighters are unrealistic to the average, mature woman doing her makeup every morning to get ready for her day. I’ve actually been following more younger creators using less makeup and doing commentary on makeup trends, the makeup industry, and product formulations. I find myself watching fewer videos from the creators my own age that are still doing the “makeup artist” style of makeup. It’s no longer a modern look and it doesn’t mesh with most women’s real lives. Thank you, Risa, for this refreshing video.
Oh, girlfriend! This video speaks to me! I'm 54 now and I've literally been having this conversation with myself for the past few months. Thankfully, I love mixing foundations together to get just the right formula. Both the Haus Labs and Maybelline Skin Tint foundations mix beautifully with my more full coverage matte foundations to create just the right finish... natural matte and long-wearing + just a hint of healthy glow without being too radiant. I have a few light coverage skin tints, and also some light to medium foundations, but some days I just need a bit more coverage and still want my full coverage foundation (I love both Estee Lauder Double-wear and Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless), and mixing in those more luminous products really helps to make the full coverage products more wearable. And please do try the new One-Size foundation! I'm dying to hear your review of it!
Well said! I agree, you should wear whatever makeup you want to wear! That said I am going thru the mourning process of no longer wearing the makeup I love. The simple fact is I need to wear less makeup and more importantly softer makeup.
So funny you bring up full coverage foundation. I’ve been wearing wet n wild tinted hydration daily, but yesterday I decided to bust out Estée Lauder double wear which I usually preserved for special events. I didn’t like it! Crazy! I preferred my less is more look.
First, you are stunning! I want to thank you for your content. I’ve been following for 5 years now. You truly help me with my hooded eyes and make up application. Your very honest product reviews are very appreciated and you are open and honest about things you deal with that many of us mature age women deal with also. Thank you💕
I loved this! At 75 I have already discovered that I look so much better with a light, more natural makeup application. I have thoroughly enjoyed my gray hair, and have discovered I now need softer and pinker tones. And I also know that health and happiness gives a woman a glow that can’t come from cosmetics. ❤️ Love ya, Risa!
Hi Risa! I've been a HUGE fan of yours for years! Thank you so much for your honesty! I'm 57 and it's tough, aging is tough. But, I try to look nice without putting on too much, and I take your advice on everything beauty!! You're a PRO! Luv Ya! 😘😘😘
All of those are so true Risa❣️ I’m 67 now and I also have had to keep myself from buying beautiful eye shadow palates. I have always heard that as we get in our 60’s, our ears and nose get bigger, our eyes get smaller and you lose hair where you don’t want to! UGH! But I love the wisdom I’ve acquired 😘
Absolutely True. I'm 56. My tip: I dilute my makeup base with sunscreen...after applying sunscreen. Feels lighter, spreads easily, and looks even. Thank you beautiful for all your tips. Love from Texas/lorena
You shouldn’t mix your foundation with sunscreen because as you said it will dilute it and at the same time it will reduce the effectiveness of the sunscreen, if you want to protect your skin from the sun I would suggest to wear the sunscreen separately from foundation . You should watch Robert Welsh’s videos about it.
Changes I have made in the last few years (I am 68): I have had to give up glitter eye shadow because it ends up all over my face. I can wear very few liquid foundations. I cannot wear matte lipstick or matte powder blush. Most brow pencils look too “done” so I switched to gel. There is no magic cream to lift my sagging skin and I don’t want to undergo a facelift. So I am, for the first time, starting to look my age. I am okay with this since I am grateful to be aging.
This video is absolute truth, and it’s good coming from such a professional point of view. There simply comes a time when we ladies need to have a frank, candid talk about things…❤
I’m 69 and I’m freakishly dedicated to skincare. To be fair I don’t watch videos or take advice from influencers or people who aren’t at least in their 40’s because they simply can’t know what they haven’t yet experienced. It’s not their fault, but I don’t waste time with younger people who are giving advice on skincare or makeup for mature women.
77 yrs young .I love your sense of colours . After I turned 70 I m struggling with my eyebrows lipliner and Mac changed the makeup .. I’ve worn makeup since I was 11-12.. you are beautiful Risa .thank for you, for all your tips..God bless You!!❤ Chris
I so appreciate the reminder to mix stuff. I have a group of questionable products I'm going to give a final test to toss because I haven't been using them. And I need to remember that before I toss an item to ask myself whether it can be mixed with anything or used another way.
Thank you for the video. I'm 70 now, and trying to find makeup products that don't make me look even older is frustrating. And, like you, I've had to change how I use those products because my eyes have gotten even more hooded (and I have always had small eyes anyway), and the dark, puffy undereyes have gotten more pronounced. My biggest challenge now is to find the right eye products that don't emphasize the "crinkles" below my eyebrows. I certainly can't use shimmers or metallics as they only accentuate them. And, perhaps the biggest challenge is that my eyes are even more sensitive now, so I have to be really careful what I use and how I use them - sometimes I just can't wear eye makeup at all. One final thing, I have recently had to start taking medication - which I will be on for the rest of my life - which can change my skin texture and hair volume and texture. Damn! It's hell getting old! All of this just makes me realize that I need to continually be thankful for the good health I do have and not worry about the details. 🥰
I’m 61 and have 2 drawers full of eyeshadows that I love, but I’m noticing now that I really love the look of either one shadow or no shadow. I prefer to perfect my skin with a light foundation or skin tint, define eyebrows and apply mascara, apply blush with a touch of highlighter, lip liner and gloss. Alternatively, no blush just bronzer on the perimeters of my face, with a touch of highlighter. The only time I will go full glam is for special event or weddings, but I’m usually not happy with the end result.
Wow! You nailed it with this one! I’m in my late 50s and like you, I’m wanting to buy the ND warm palette. Those are my colors ! However, one eye is more hooded than the other now. One is more crinkly, and one brow is more sparse. I really struggle with makeup that used to be so easy. It’s a bummer and I too am looking at shadow sticks and one shadow looks. Thanks for addressing this and for giving us all other ways to still wear make up and look pretty! ❤
I have that problem with my eyes too - one is hooded and the other isn’t. I followed Risa’s hooded eyes tutorial on one eye with my eyeshadow which makes my eyes appear both the same. It did take some practice though.
Off-topic I know, but I must say…. Your make up colors that you chose with that beautiful chocolate brown top looks stunning ! Your blue eyes are popping, and the lip combination could not be more perfect 👏👏👏👏👏 I’m just saying❤
I love what you said about mixing foundations. I’ve been mixing Estée Lauder double wear with the sheer version in the same color. It makes it so easy to spread and apply. Plus it has the same long wear ability and last all day. It makes it less heavy and looks beautiful
Such a great video! I am finding I look so much better without much on my face except sunscreen, a little liquid blush, concealer, some powder under the eyes and on my T-zone, mascara, brows, lip gloss, and a swipe of a brown/taupe eyeshadow stick above my crease. It holds up better all day in the desert heat, too.
Risa - this was so inspirational. Thank you SO much! I turned 60 in June and while I’m blessed to have really great skin ( I’m a skincare junkie🙈) I’ve finally given up on a winged liner. It just doesn’t work anymore and I’m ok with that - finally lol On another note…..I went to a wedding over the weekend and I wore your martini lashes and I got SO many compliments- my besties thought I had my lashes professionally done and many said they wish they could do lashes like that. I owe it ALL to you Risa- not just the perfect lashes but you convinced me not to give up and to keep practicing. I watched many of your tutorials and finally mastered them and now I can do my lashes quickly and perfectly when I have a special event. Thank you for looking out for us 😊 Xo 💗
This is very reassuring to hear. I’m 47 and have recently noticed that my usual makeup doesn’t work for me anymore. Using less is something that’s new to me, as I’ve always been someone who piled things on without care. Eyeliner is also a former staple that I’ve had to adjust.
Another thing that helps is if you wear the right colors for your undertone. Then you already have a big head start on giving your face some color even before you start applying any makeup 💄🤩.
Hi hun throughly enjoyed watching this video, I love a straight talking person because you always know where you stand with them. That said, I agree less is more on the foundation, I have never liked a full coverage skin look basically because I look after my skin diligently daily, even on holidays, staying in Spa's, visiting beauty therapist's etc. But I always love to play my eyes up, and that's where I like my full-on glam, I don't use fake eyelashes because I personally don't like them, but I always use a lash serum. Lastly, if people want full glam at whatever age good on them and if they don't, great who cares it's their choice but who looks more glamorous then say for example Joan Collins she's 91 yrs of age and in my opinion looks fabulous in all her full glam. So do whatever you want at whatever age because it's just another number. Thank you, darl ❤
I have always LOVED eye makeup. I mean full glam eye makeup. But those days are long gone. I'm 72 with extremely hooded and droopy eyes. So much so that I look tired all the time. What looks best on me is a wash of one color and mascara. That's it for eye make up. Everything else is the same just less of it for a softer look. Great video Risa.
Omg RMS!!!!!! I absolutely love RMS! Try the Buruti Bronzer if you haven’t. It is just the best and I use it on my eyes for a one and done and on my lips sometimes. Their cream products are my go to! Would love an RMS video! The foundation is ok to me but I mix it with my Lancôme and it’s good! Her skincare is also amazing. Shout out Risa! I love your channel and content! I’m 47 ad the changes my skin has gone through is crazy! Take care have a great day!! 😊
Thank you for the helpful tips, gentle reminders and encouragement. I've got a decade on you, Risa, and I agree taking care of our skin is paramount. Mother Nature can't be stopped, but she can be somewhat tamed if we're consistent. 💕
I love makeup and I really don’t care what anyone else thinks about it. Getting older has given me the freedom to not care. I hope to have this body another 40 years and I plan on enjoying it for as long as possible.
I am four years ahead of you in age and a bit farther in menopause. Oh yes, I buy smaller palettes and have been looking at singles instead. I’ve been slowly adopting k-beauty for the budget and skin results after multiple months. My under eye is dramatically changing; using so much less concealer in a runny formula works better than the popular Maybelline age rewind type. Blend as usual patting in, but follow with a wrung out beauty triangle spritzed with setting spray. Result is lasting and flawless for the first time in decades. Yes, there is corrector under there. As your hair grays, switch to a proper ashy brow color for your personal shade. You will look better to those who notice, but not realize why. I play with blushes and lined lips, but my eyes are a problem with allergies and dry eyes under glasses. I am learning shiny lips are better than creamy lips- I never could get matte lips to work for me when I was younger. I have an Essence clear lip gloss and I wipe the lipstick off the wand before placing it back into the tube. I am intrigued with lip stains lined and topped with a gloss. I am noticing mature youtubers dabbling in the Asian beauty lip and eye makeups. From the lovely 70+ RUclipsrs, “wait, I know I had a cupids bow! Where did it go?!” The age spots on the sides of your face in a past video are from the sun hitting the side of your face as a driver or passenger; face brightener under sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat stops and reverses that slowly. I tried the PanOxyl face wash for the “menopause stink” with excellent results. Sniff, smile. I swear I had oily hooded eyes as a teen before we had the term. “Adapt” is the word you are looking for. We’ve always adapted our makeup, we just didn’t realize it until hormones quickly forced us into it again and considering repurchases or shifts with every empty item now. It’s not what you give up, it’s all the new possibilities! Now, for my exercise.
@@cynthiawhite8323 Yes, Mine are slowly fading, so I use a slightly darker than my lips shade for my "nude" lips color and still dabble in the deeper red-oranges for my "red" color for my lips. A few shades of darker pinks also work. The liner holds in your lipstick from wandering off your lips. I do a nude pink color in retractable or wooden pencil, depending on lipstick.
Thank you Risa for bringing this up. I’m 49 years old and whenever I did makeup on family members with menopause I found it difficult to do there makeup. So I started looking at videos and found that Amal Clooney looks radiant and youthful. I would love to see a video that brings out the best in all of us. Thank you Risa😊
I do the foundation mixing trick as well. Matte with radiant, full coverage with lighter coverage depending on what I want that day or occasion. It works a treat!
I'm 61 and definitely agree less is more, Risa. I don't think it means you can't use an accent of soft shimmer, but I don't care for glitter these days and definitely favor satin shadows. I can't do all matte. That seems too flat on me. I often do a two- or three-shadow look. Brows are a must, and I love me some lip liner. I've been using it to contour my lips and/or as a base since my mid to late 30s. I love color, too, Risa... and gloss is our friend, too. I don't care for matte lips on me. I have uber dry lips, and the matte formula is not helpful, lol. Also agree about ruddy skin still able to wear blush. Naturally rosy cheeks here, lol.
Thank you Risa, I know your content is mostly about makeup but nice makeup looks nice on good skin , no matter what age so please share your skin care / body/ hair routine , am a mature woman with oily skin as you and some days is a struggle 🙏💗
I am older than you but fairly new to makeup. I learned how to do my makeup almost solely from watching tutorials on RUclips. I can attest that you are correct on all counts! It took me a while…but the only accounts who really helped me find my look were those hosted by people who specialize in simple, elegant looks. As for eyeshadow palettes, after buying many (always thinking the next one would be magical!), I realized that they all look pretty much the same as I prefer simple eye looks (with a bit of sparkle on occasion). Thanks for the dose of truth - I really enjoy your videos!
You nailed it across the board! Turned 65, moved to LV from Chicago are and everything I knew or thought I knew about makeup no longer worked! I’ve been trying to find what does and feel like I’m trying something new every week. I do have to say, though, I’ve had great luck with Laura Geller products, especially her new serum which is great and has an SPF included. Yes, my makeup spend is less and my skin care is more, but I still love makeup and love watching your videos!
This is a great video. At age 58, I've given up eyeliner totally and only wear mascara on the top. I'm not against a colorful shadow and wear them sometimes. But I'm pretty minimal now. One shade usually or maybe just a smudge of darker color in crease. I can do my entire work look in under 15 minutes now. I love it!
I understand exactly what you are saying about our skin changing as we get older. I just turned 48 and went through a period of everything breaking up on me, i have had to change the type of foundation due to my changing skin. I have discovered under painting this year and find that it works well for my skin. I have had to cut back on my powder and being an oily girl that was difficult. I have had to stop using alot of powdered blushes and moved to cream and liquid blushes. They seem to not emphasize my texture as bad as the powder. You always look beautiful either glamed or not.
Hey Risa girl! We’ve grown together over the years, and I’ve been following you for so long. You’ve always been my go-to RUclipsr and makeup guru. I completely resonate with what you’re saying about makeup, especially as I’m also trying out a one-eyeshadow look. Now that I’m 52, I’m embracing the idea that less is more, even though I still love my full glam look every day! I recently purchased the Natasha Denona "I Need a Warm" palette, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely stunning!
such a refreshing video , loved all the content i' 74 and still work as a cosmotologist but now work in an asst living doing there hair and still wear and love makeup !!
Risa this is one of my favorite videos you have done. In my 50’s I had to make big changes to my complexion products. Then in my early 60’s once again had to through the trial an error of finding better foundations for my skin. Now at 67 next month, I have finally moved to skin tints, light to medium coverage and more cream products. I gave up eyeshadow a year or so ago and use my contour or bronzer for a one and done look. I still longingly look at my very full drawer of eyeshadow, but the reality is my eyes are so hooded you can’t see the shadow and then it creases and I’m better off doing less. Skin care is so important and I wish I would have started better skin care/sunscreen many years before I did.
Thank you Risa! What a wonderful frank discussion about aging. One thought that helps me (at 72!) is to appreciate that we look a little more delicate as we age, and our look may be overwhelmed by too much makeup and drama. This is just my opinion, of course. I like the delicate look and recently had to rethink my foundation/ powder when I suddenly realized mine was too heavy. Please continue to share your thoughts on this topic, including products and ideas.
I'm 55 years old I been following you for years. I don't remember how long though. But I love this, I learned so much from you. Thank you for doing these updates. As a mature oily /combo girl there's not very many content creater who I can relate to. Yours is one of the best.
Hope this helps with the lashes tip Risa gave: My favorite mascara is High Impact Mascara by Clinique. It's expensive, but I always use their perfumes, so I wait for Bonus Time and get my perfume, then get them for free in the kits with all the little skin care goodies so I never run out. It's the only one that doesn't irritate my eyes or clump up. It's the non-waterproof version in black. I can build it out really nicely and a tube last a while. ✨❤✨
Risa, Thank you so much for your openness & honesty! I'm 67 & am needing to reevaluate how I want my skin/face to look. I love watching you apply your makeup... it always looks great!
This is so true! I have stopped buying eye makeup it just doesn’t work anymore. I’m concentrating on skincare! Castor oil does grow eyebrows back and my lashes are so long. Make sure it’s organic Thanks for video
I am 63 and learned 3 colors no more looks the best as my eyes are hooded and I have learned to do a tiny liner and top line. Risa I love different Pallets too. I love makeup and it will always be a part of my daily routine. Thank you for talking about how long you use a product, I get impatient and feel I don’t give it enough time. My foundation I mix two different ones together to customize what I need for the day. I need around the center of my face and nose more coverage. And how dry is my skin that day/season. You are spot on! It’s less but you work a little harder because makeup can make a big difference but it is less forgiving as we get older and use to much. Thank you awesome video!🙏❤️
I'm 62. I still love my eye makeup. My eyes are hooded, and I've learned to work with them. I'm getting a medium peel in a couple of days to help with discoloration and some precancerous areas. I use a toner and serum with everything, but the kitchen sink in it, and a moisturizer. All these are korean. They work really, really well for me.😊
I’m 66 and not only do I love makeup, but I enjoy the whole process from cleansing, priming, moisturizing, even applying a priming sunscreen and the actual makeup application processes. However, I have rarely “overdone it”. I keep it real looking, I think. I love to enhance my eye shape, which. I think has always been my best feature. I also use a tad of shimmer in my lids. My entire routine in the morning may take 20-30 minutes. I have gotten several RMS products and Rare Beauty ones I have been loving. But my favorite product is my Haus Labs Triclone foundation in the shade “240 light medium warm”. I have tried their foundation before and found it to make me look yellow. I realized after getting the 3 trial jars, that their “warm” is actually what every other company calls “cool”! I have reddish neutral undertones and some redness around my nose, chin and cheeks. I do need to get a green neutralizer again. That being said, the Hays foundation as well as the IT CC foundation in neutral medium covers everything pretty well in just 1- 1/2 pumps of total product. Thanks if anyone read this far! Give it a thumbs up if you did. I want to make a video so bad but I put up a few a few years back, but no one watched them. I really didn’t edit, so I should spend time on that if I dare do it again.
Hi Risa, I watched this video once again, and omy gosh you hit on so many important topics! Like, the mixing. I am afraid to mix, yet I KNOW, that I cannot keep on using Estee Lauder Double Wear unless I use a wet sponge to make it look lighter on the face. I can tell you what totally surprised me, was the Maybelline Super-Stay 24-hour Skin Tint, it's Light to Medium Coverage and OMY Gosh it's amazing! It makes me look so much younger - so much better than if I had the Estee Lauder on thick, it's the biggest difference & it seriously has changed my life! Also, I have soooooo many eyeshadow palettes, I was addicted to them....and I refuse to throw anything away....so I'm just gonna try to not go as heavy as I did when I was 40.....when I say heavy, I don't mean 'trashy', just I know that I need to lighten up on the eye makeup 4 sure! 😘😘😘
I’m 47 and the most eye makeup I do now is bronzer in the crease, tight line, maybe a nude eyeliner in the waterline, & mascara. Or I’ll use one shadow stick either matte or a shimmer. Plus I have hooded eyes also. My eyes start to water really bad now too. Jaclyn Hill recommended that lash serum that you’re using from Amazon but she said it gave her dark circles so be careful. I’ve been using the one from The Ordinary and I love it. Loved this video ❤
I’m almost 56, and I totally agree with you. I now mix an illuminating liquid primer with my foundation. If not, I have cake face. I don’t buy big eye shadow pallets anymore. I only buy quads, duos, or singles.
Thank you Risa. I am 65 and everything you said is so true! It is important to be honest with yourself and make adjustments as they are needed. I have eliminated full coverage foundations, eye liner on lower lids, almost all powder products and limit eye shadows to no more than 2 colors. Not only is my routine easier, but I look and feel better without all the heavy make-up!
I’m also 51 and have really been trying to tone down my eyes over the past few months or so because I realize it just doesn’t look so good anymore on me. It’s hard to change but yes less is more for me for sure. Thanks Risa!
I tried the Rimmel foundation you used in a recent video. I really liked it. Thanks for the recommendation. I am a foundation mixer too. Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you for this video! Very interesting! I am 70 years old and I love makeup but I have never worn foundation! I wear sometimes skin tint but very rarely…I have to say I have taken very good care of my skin all my life …I am blessed with very nice skin and I just wear blush and it looks very youthful! ❤️❤️
Appreciate this video! I’m 67 soon to be 68 and find that less is more especially on my mature hooded eyes. Totally agree how skincare is very important! BTW…you look beautiful in this video!
Yes yes yes! I’m 45, my signature look was winged liner. I can barely do it anymore. I use a teeny tiny bit and my finger nail to drag it out. One and done shadows with my highlighter just on the center. I wear under lashes everyday. Natural looking ones, it’s so low maintenance especially with makeup.
Awesome video. I’m 59 years old and realized about 5-7 years ago that I had to cut back on the eye makeup, it just didn’t look good anymore. I will still do a simple Smokey Eye if I’m going out but for every day I wear falsies or lots of primer +mascara on curled lashes because I find that’s what works best for me. I have a good skincare routine so I’m able to wear a very light foundation because my skin underneath is in great shape (if slightly uneven in tone). So everything you said has been 100% true for me in my experience, and I feel so validated after watching this video❤ I love your content, Risa fan for life!
Risa! So true. I’m 66 with small eyes to begin with and hooded. It’s getting very apparent that too many colors especially dark ones on the eyes now create a muddy look and takes away from the eyes. I find that tightlining and building lashes is essential plus a light matte color on lids with a soft brown or gray in outer corners swept inward and up look best
This makes me sad- thank you for your honesty and sharing with us what you are experiencing and it all makes sense and is reasonable- as someone who is about to turn 43 I have been struggling to find beauty in my face- as someone who typically wore little to no makeup I’ve started trying foundations and buying eye palettes to try to not be so down about what the mirror shows, but your right at the end of the day the most important thing is to take care of your skin and accept where we really are in life
i am 66 i appreciate your videos my lips are so thin now i cant even wear lipstick anymore and my eyes are seriously hooded, i gave up on eyeshadow a while ago. but i still watch your videos and listen to you! thank you!
Please do an eye tutorial for us to give ideas for using less eyeshadow and still have a polished look.
Yes, maybe an entire series.
please!
Pretty Please ❤
YES! (Please?). ❤
She HAS alot, but always adds more easy day to day makeup looks.
Rock on! I love make up
Right? I'm the same, although about 2 years ago I did quit smokey eyes and I just do brownish eyeshadow with a hint of shimmery color pop at the center of my lid and I'm loving this simple look.
Intervention! lol.
I’m 70 & feel the same! Now, what do we do with all these palettes?Lol!
51 is still very, very young as far as makeup application goes. I try to watch makeup tutorials from 60 to 70 year olds for realistic advice, but this video has really helpful tips. Many thanks!
I've just subscribed and hope to keep following your advice on minimalist makeup techniques and product suggestions.
Accelerated aging happens after menopause
Aging is not as noticeable until your hormones change
I looked young up until 54 because that’s when menopause started
It’s not just a number it’s when the hormones shut off
☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️. Truth!
Exactly what happened to me.
Damn it, ain't that the terrible truth?
Exactly, aging really accelerates after menopause.
You always look great, Risa, glam or no glam, but I 100 percent take on your advice. It takes a certain amount of bravery to keep it real - with oneself and with others - and let's face it, maturing isn't for wusses. Thank you for your never ceasing integrity in these matters. Love you!
💯
I’m the same and I’m also 58.
Me too and it has made a wonderful difference 😊
Same here! I stopped at around 50 and my eyes look younger. I am 64 now
Same here. It was a hard move, but looks so much better
I am 67 and will never stop wearing makeup or eye shadow, but I do find that I use a lighter touch and less than I used to.
❤good job on hard truth, especially for those of us over 70 and who absolutely adore all makeup. Sadly you’re correct. ❤
I love Sophia Loren.
I agree until I discovered Jones Road What the Foundation. I think you would like it.
Blessings
Omg. So true. Wait till 60. Crazy. Why so many of us stopped wearing makeup.
Thank you for addressing this!!
Actually, I could wear any makeup until age 60...now at 65, makeup is so tricky...thankfully, I have found beautiful products
I too love this community of women 😊
Luv Ya! 😘😘😘
All of those are so true Risa❣️
I’m 67 now and I also have had to keep myself from buying beautiful eye shadow palates. I have always heard that as we get in our 60’s, our ears and nose get bigger, our eyes get smaller and you lose hair where you don’t want to! UGH! But I love the wisdom I’ve acquired 😘
I have not only read the same thing, but see it in my own face😁 I am 68.
Senior hooded eye eyemakeup without false eyelashes and perfect wings please.
100% Yes
I am okay with this since I am grateful to be aging.
yes, I'm also grateful to be aging
This video is absolute truth, and it’s good coming from such a professional point of view. There simply comes a time when we ladies need to have a frank, candid talk about things…❤
I’m 69 and I’m freakishly dedicated to skincare. To be fair I don’t watch videos or take advice from influencers or people who aren’t at least in their 40’s because they simply can’t know what they haven’t yet experienced. It’s not their fault, but I don’t waste time with younger people who are giving advice on skincare or makeup for mature women.
I would love a video on foundations that you mix together ❤️
77 yrs young .I love your sense of colours . After I turned 70 I m struggling with my eyebrows lipliner and Mac changed the makeup .. I’ve worn makeup since I was 11-12.. you are beautiful Risa .thank for you, for all your tips..God bless You!!❤ Chris
Thank you for sharing the truth and encouraging us to experiment with mixing! Love that and after all, makeup is art too! ❤
Your blue eyes are popping, and the lip combination could not be more perfect 👏👏👏👏👏
I’m just saying❤
It just doesn’t work anymore and I’m ok with that - finally lol
On another note…..I went to a wedding over the weekend and I wore your martini lashes and I got SO many compliments- my besties thought I had my lashes professionally done and many said they wish they could do lashes like that. I owe it ALL to you Risa- not just the perfect lashes but you convinced me not to give up and to keep practicing. I watched many of your tutorials and finally mastered them and now I can do my lashes quickly and perfectly when I have a special event. Thank you for looking out for us 😊
Xo 💗
Love your honesty! One of my favorite videos you have posted. Share these gems and more as healthy reminders often please.
My lips have gotten much paler as I've gotten older - I have to use a brighter lipstick and sometimes a lip liner.
I love all your truths in this video!! Thank you so much!!
Agree 🎉
Naturally rosy cheeks here, lol.
same ❤
Would love to see you do the eye look you are wearing in the video! Gorgeous! I have that palette and love it!!❤️
Thank you Risa, I know your content is mostly about makeup but nice makeup looks nice on good skin , no matter what age so please share your skin care / body/ hair routine , am a mature woman with oily skin as you and some days is a struggle 🙏💗
Thank you for this really helpful tips. I appreciate! Less eyeshadow for me from now on. ❤
I love it!
I would like to hear your recommendations for minimal face preparation. Loved this advice today.
Agree with all you said!! Thank you so much! 53 year old from California!!! Love your videos! And you seem so genuine!! Beautiful inside and out!
such a refreshing video , loved all the content i' 74 and still work as a cosmotologist but now work in an asst living doing there hair and still wear and love makeup !!
Thank you Risa for your candor and helping us on this journey. You are a gem
You look gorgeous. At 68 I needed to hear this. Excellent advice!
These are wonderful tips! Extremely helpful for this 50 year old woman who loves makeup! ❤❤
This is so true! I have stopped buying eye makeup it just doesn’t work anymore. I’m concentrating on skincare! Castor oil does grow eyebrows back and my lashes are so long. Make sure it’s organic Thanks for video
These are truths! Thanks for sharing!
Love your channel! Speaking the truth!!! 🎉❤
I'm 62. I still love my eye makeup. My eyes are hooded, and I've learned to work with them. I'm getting a medium peel in a couple of days to help with discoloration and some precancerous areas. I use a toner and serum with everything, but the kitchen sink in it, and a moisturizer. All these are korean. They work really, really well for me.😊
@Sherralyn try organic castor oil in a glass bottle for your discoloration, it will help lighten them up
I’m 66 and not only do I love makeup, but I enjoy the whole process from cleansing, priming, moisturizing, even applying a priming sunscreen and the actual makeup application processes.
I so agree Risa. Thank you for making this all make sense.
I had a huge change occur with my skin after I turned 60. Suddenly, much of my makeup didn’t work anymore. It was almost like starting over.
It seems to all even out as we age… I cut my makeup spending in half, but doubled my skin care budget!
Same, and I love it!
😂😂😂 I love it!!! So true !!! 😍😂
Great tips, Risa!
This makes me sad- thank you for your honesty and sharing with us what you are experiencing and it all makes sense and is reasonable- as someone who is about to turn 43 I have been struggling to find beauty in my face- as someone who typically wore little to no makeup I’ve started trying foundations and buying eye palettes to try to not be so down about what the mirror shows, but your right at the end of the day the most important thing is to take care of your skin and accept where we really are in life
i am 66 i appreciate your videos my lips are so thin now i cant even wear lipstick anymore and my eyes are seriously hooded, i gave up on eyeshadow a while ago. but i still watch your videos and listen to you! thank you!
