- First look at the Behringer BX1 from NAMM 2025: straight from the company's booth, we get a demonstration of their bold fusion of legendary technologies. This synthesizer combines 32-voice FM synthesis (inspired by the Yamaha DX1) with coveted CS-80-style analog filters. In this brief demo with the Behringer team, we explore its main features: the impressive LED editing panel reminiscent of the original DX1, resonant HPF/LPF filters with optional 24 dB/oct mode, comprehensive built-in effects section, and professional connectivity including balanced outputs and breath control input.

What I’ve noticed from this video, besides this amazing synth, is that Luigi Scarano is/has/does:
1- Italian name
2- French accent
3- Present in English
4- Work for a Swiss guy who lives in the Philippines
5- Showcase product inspired by vintage units made by a Japanese company, with components made in China

It even has that DX brown colour! This looks like a really interesting synth, amazing stuff coming out of the evil Behringer lair these days!
Keep in mind this doesn't even have the Effects section yet -- it wasn't ready for the show. So there will be more flavor available to the sounds when it's launched.

@ I let you listen to the demos of DX1 and DX7, no doubt if you have pro speakers and i you are not daft , you will appreciate that the DX7 sounds better than the BX1.

This gave me a good laugh. I was waiting for Behringer to have a go at the DX7, but they went straight for the Big Boi. Ahh, Behringer, you absolute rascal. :D Yup, this is probably my next purchase. I don't have any FM synths, and I have a hard time programming them, but this one looks like an absolute gem.
Oh F*** Yeah ! After selling my DX5 and TX816 for £250 and £333 respectively ... ( in 2009 - different times ... ) I feel this will be a beautiful replacement ! WANT !

Looks great, layout seems intuitive.
I know that the lights are bright in the hall but the LEDs aren't showing up that well. Looks dope though. Very tasty.

so you put Analog Filter on a Digital FM synth oscilator so it's a DX1 with analog filter, not a CS 80 without the ribbon controler and the complexity of the analog VCO.
The filter sounds good. Interesting product. Does this mean that Behringer will or will not release a CS80 clone?

But if they release a clone of the CS80 (something that everyone has been waiting for for a long time), let it be in a CS80-type box...

a keyboard version of the FS1R would be more interesting. I had 3 of them new. they sounded great, but the interface was abysmal.
I'm surprised someone from Behringer didn't wipe down the top panel before doing this demo, it looks filthy.

The Yamaha cs80 of fm synths
Still 40 year old technology. No one can come up with anything new? Plays one maybe two voices at a time like everyone else's. It's a tribute but everyone has FM/DX on everything now even a toy SeqTrak and YC and other manufacture's everywhere. The Korg WaveState is something different still not new but not boring either and very affordable. It makes actual music. I have many synths but they are all basically the same. I think we've reached the pinnacle of sounds (game over) now it's about time for music-making auto-machines. We're just going backwards or back in time all the time now. Make something musically self-creative.
Pastiche has been the thing in pop music and Hollywood since 1990.
@@Spockddc I own or have owned almost everything since the DX100 so I know they are all the same.
Many flat buttons, one single data entry slider, a tiny display, printed-on FM algorithms... Where is the advantage to the originals? Why did they not use the availability of modern techniques and build a large FM synth with a proper user interface consisting of a big touchscreen, a considerable amount of pots or even encoders and intuitively playable modulation controllers? That would have made a difference to all the original DXs from back then and all these Motif and Montage machines (which at least have a not-too-small touchscreen). Adding proper filters is always a good idea, though. But it seems they missed the opportunity to finally make FM synthesis touchable and playable, which is a shame.
You want to ruin a beautiful machine with ugly touchscreens and modern pad buttons? What’s the point then?
Please watch Daniel Fisher‘s deep dive into the DX1! This is by far easier to program than my MODX - and even more so than the DX7, of course.

Not impressed. If they want to convince me this is an FM synth ( or has the FM at its core) then they need to play FM presets reminiscent of the stock factory DX7 sounds, it would have taken little effort and time to start with a scratch sine-wave patch and build it quickly from there, but the focus seemed to be analog modeling, of which there are already too many of in the market.
