@@ABC_animal_kingdom I got two German Shepherds and nobody believes those good smelling dogs are bathed once every six months. We give them organic virgin coconut oil & clean their coats with regular brushing and every now and then apple cider vinegar (10%) and water.

Owning one of these dogs will change how you see dogs, and does wonders to grasp why they are miles beyond any other species in every measurable and worthy catagory. My only regret is not making the financial leap sooner. Dogo 10/10 . My 17 mo male Zeus is 153lbs and still growing. A true giant that moves like a small dog and loves like a child. He spends his afternoons sitting in a window waiting for my young daughter to come home from school. From the time she arrives he follows her like a guardian. At night he switches in to defense mode and prowls property until sunrise.

Best dog I've ever had I got a 3,5 year old male dogo, in the house and towards his family it's a big clown. He's stubborn sometimes and has his own character but extremely loyal, doesn't like strangers at all or neither other male dogs, guards the house and property like soldier and sticks to me like glue when I'm at home I love him with all of my heart but not the dog for every one you need to train your dogo with a silk glove, lots of patience and love and show him that you are the dominant one without any fysical contact

If I had the room and wanted a large breed dog for some reason....The Dogo would be near the top of my list...for the reasons that they have one of the longest lilfespans of large breed dogs and very few health issues typical to the breed. So Mr. Martenez did a good job breeding ...mixing all those breeds.

I live in a small flat with my dogo. He always goes straight to bed when we get home. Give them enough daily adventures and they will be happy even in a small home! Will move out to the countryside soon though, seeing him running out on the fields is just priceless. The advantage with living in a city with a dogo is that they get used to different people and all kinds of noises that helps desensitize them. My dogo has excellent hearing but will not wake up to the trash man or even fireworks! Such a mellow, loving dog that can turn into an absolute beast when it's appropriate. Surely the best breed

Yes... They are quite expensive. We know that some buy puppies directly from Argentina for the convenience of the exchange rate. However, the procedures can be somewhat complex.

In the case of Dogo’s, Bigger is not Better! A perfect size Working, hunting Dogo is 85-105#. A big heavy dog could not keep up in any way on a hunt. To bad the breed is being taken out of specification. Mine is 97# and she is a machine! She’s a direct descendant of Morocco from the Martinez Ranch.

GOMEZ of Los Dogos De Costello is 158 lbs. Bigger than Franky but we do not promote breeding the bigger Dogos as they were not intended to be that large. Gomez just kept growing and surprised the heck out of us! It's important that this breed remains within the standards set by Dr Martinez as firm follows function and above all, the breed should be functional and if too large it will not be able to properly perform all of its functions well and we would see the breed become like most breeds today. Not at all functional, with many issues mentally and physically (look at the early pictures of Great Danes, Rottweilers, English Bulldogs, Bull Terriers etc) We love our Dogos and they're the most brilliant, loyal breed I've ever come across. #LosDogosdeCostello

My Apollo, Dogo Argentino, weighed 152 lbs. We got him down to 139 lbs as per vet visit yesterday. No we will not be breeding him because of his size.

@@Dogoargentino.mississippi Good job!! It's no easy task cause they're really good as weaseling what they want a lot of times lolol! So that speaks volumes to your love for him! Apollo is super lucky! I worry so much about Gomez in the future... we'll get him Penn Hip and Elbow tested soon but he just turned 2 not too long ago. He's all muscle now, and I am so grateful every day that he doesn't realize his own power, and that he respects the heck out of me because we're working on some dog reactivity that's prevalent in the breed again despite the creator working so hard to eradicate the genetics of the Cordoba Fighting Dog, it seems like A LOT of dogos are still not very fond of other dogs. They'll work with other dogs but when that's over, the truce is over. But in seeing him explode its just insane. Never really seen anything like it. Certainly not a dog lol. Dogos are truly a breed , that is so unlike any others. What works for most dogs, just doesn't work for a Dogo. It's a lot but like you all know.... WORTH IT!! We have 6 currently and like I said, Gomez just kept growing, and growing, and growing, and as much as I begged him to stay a puppy, he is now a full out male dog, strutting his stuff. I'll bet Apollo gives you a lot of similar awesome experiences that are like once in a lifetime things! So cool! He'll be healthy and perfect because he has you looking out for him Cathy. @@sanmiguelterritoriodeldogo742 I had the same issue with my Dogo Dexter. He just kept growing and growing. He is now 4 years old and is a lean 155 pounds. His parents were 95 and 120 pounds and Dexter is the only dog they have ever produced that is so large. It doesn't bother him at all. He is one imposing looking critter and everyone comments on him when we are out. He is one of the best dogs I've ever had and he gets along with people and animals as long as they behave.

While I appreciate all this new found love for the Dogo, understand there are true negatives. 1) The shedding is horrendous, they shed a lot. 2) They howl more than any dog I’ve ever owned, I would much rather here a bark than the howl. 3) While they don’t do well in all types of weather, they ARE NOT inside dogs, we built a weather proof kennel. 4) Due to popularity, at least in the US, they are starting to lose the drive/gameness that I fell in love with. These breeders stateside suck, point blank. Other than that I love my babies, we hunt 2x a week so they kill their own food

Regarding to the shedding, it is true, they do shed a lot.
Many are well suited to living with this large dog in their homes, while many others, just like you, consider that it is not the best. It all depends on your lifestyle and whether you have adopted your Dogo simply as a pet or to hunt.
@@ABC_animal_kingdom I definitely consider my Dogo’s as pets. But I have a 3500sq.ft home and they’re just too energetic to be inside. They used to be in their kennel till I figured out they howl when they’re bored, and I wasn’t going to the unsightly then for that, so outside in their own space is where they spend their time. We still play, run, and wrestle on the daily
Don't get us wrong. We did not mean that you did not consider them as your beloved pets. It shows that you care for them and that you love them very much.
We meant that the fact that many are adopting them exclusively as pets is what goes to the detriment of what you stated in point 4).
We totally agree that a dog as energetic and large as a Dogo will feel much more comfortable in a yard as spacious as yours.

I too am amazed that a dog with such short hair can shed so much. As for the howling mine doesn't do that and he is great in the house. He goes out several times a day and we go for a long walk every day. He can stay inside by himself all day if necessary without any problems. I'm retired so he rarely has to be alone.

The maximum weight allowed is 45 kilo. I can't imagine a 70 kilo dog being able to hunt and track wild boar for a long distance
@@wanneske1969 .she is a giant... a month ago she weighed 75 kilos but she got sick and now she is weighing 70 kilos... her parents had 2 litters and in the first one a giant male was also born who is now 3 years old!

They are gooorgeous. It is not an easy to find dog breed and if you manage to find a reliable breeder you may be asked for a good fortune.
Anyway, we wish you the best of luck and we hope that sooner or later you will be able to have your own dogo argentino.
All those dogs at the end on that picture should all have a really experienced owner, all great animals. The terrier(pit) I would say is the only pup on that pic that a first time owner could have. If you docile him with walks, dog parks, be kind and gentle, these dogs are not hard to train, they usually have great temperament when raised well. Yea the pit terrier is best dog on her for first time owners in my opinion.😊
We totally agree. In our personal experience, our pit at the beginning was very independent and even stubborn, but by establishing clear rules, she understood the dynamics of the house and understood her place in the family.

I have had three pits and agree with you totally. I got my first Dogo about a year ago. He is 13 months and WOULD NOT BE A GOOD DOG FOR A FIRST TIME OR INEXPERIENCED OWNER. In the right hands they are awesome. My fear is that their popularity will be their demise. Once everyone who thinks they want one gets one the gates of hell will open up. It's what happened to the pitbull. Inexperienced owners coupled with inexperienced or unscrupulous breeders and bad things happen. These are ultra capable dogs that need ultra capable ownership.
@@jman6061 yea, I have two dogos rescues, boys same litter, the owner bought both of them at the same time, which should have never been allowed. They are new to the AKC, whenever that happens their is a boom on a breed, and yes it can and often does break and change the breed, especially working lines like a dogo. Many shelters have dogos because AKC made it a popular dog for housewives and families without, actually giving a accurate picture, of the breed, or they do but the owners ignore it. Very few working lines are good for first time owners, and I hate to say it many working lines don’t survive being in Kennel clubs, it’s like good for some bad for others, I better not get started 😂.. I would’ve never thought of getting dogos, I have rescued and pure breed pit terrier, but when the rescue called me, I zoomed chatted with them and saw the 2 boys, I had to say yes 😂 wonderful breed… you are fortunate to have them in your life, and your worries are valid.. 👍

Beautiful dog breed and comparable to the Cane Corso but better looking in my opinion. I prefer their ears and tails intact. Very powerful breed and is not for the tame of heart. Be the Leader (Alpha) be rewarding and loving yet firm and consistent when needed and for mind stimulation, and you'll have a very loving loyal majestic guard dog ✌🏽♥️

Great video, the Dogo Argentino and Tosa are breeds i've always had an interest in, being from the UK where they are both banned breeds (along with the american pitbull and Fila) I've never seen either in the flesh. Seems like total madness when i own a Boerboel and we're free to own dogs like the Presa and Bully kutta. Would love to see them in the UK but can totally understand that there are too many irresponsible owners and breeders. We need strict licencing for dog ownership i don't think everyone should be able to own dog's especially dominant breeds

There definitely not supposed to be. I agree. However, when you look at the breeds that were used to create the Dogo then you can see how it’s possible. He’s not ideal for hunting purposes because he lacks the necessary endurance at that size to hunt.

Here is Whisper 155 pounds. Unfortunately, he is from my very lady litter and is deaf. My ex wife has him. He’s an impressive physical specimen. His weight was on the scale at the vet.

I have 2 of these rescues, brothers. The man couldn’t control them, no socialization. I worked really hard to break that, but once I did, they took to hunting like we do to pancakes I mean, they started out like pros, followed my lead Bo around, then took off on their own, trended a BB which I wasn’t hunting. That was the first practice run I took them on, no they run around with my other pups. Lovely dogs, I just wouldn’t recommend them as house pets, unless you know how to keep them busy. And you should have some experiences with work dogs, it shouldn’t be your first or second dog maybe not even 3rd dog. But they are great animals

Over 25% protein is not good for them once they are adults (puppys will need a bit more). What's your Dogo's name? How old is he/she?
There is dry food made specifically for dogs with sensitivities. Sometimes dogs can show some type of allergy to grains. Regarding the skin, be very careful with direct sun. However, this is only a recommendation, your vet will always have the final word, since he knows your dear furry friend better.

@@ABC_animal_kingdom Blessings and your quite welcome, her name is Nala and she is 2 and half will be 3 next month, I know awhile ago the vet recommended hills science diet for sensitive stomach but I don’t think it really helped her growth somewhat but it did help he stomach and skin, but I hear that the hills food is no good and have to many fillers that’s not good for dogs, so much stuff out there idk it’s crazy, she eats Canidae salmon and sweet potatoes

And for hunting and although I despise it and sickens me the pitbulls dominate dogfighting..but your right that is there field. But I will tell you something..my buddy hunts hogs with Argentina dogos and they are very very good...better than alot of pitbulls. But when you take the best dogo and the best pitbull terrier the only reason the pitbull is preferred is because the gameness they have is on another level..but ya please let me know when ya do APBT...I'll subscribe so I know. Pitbulls are magnificent dogs as well. Both can be very protective with their own, especially with children
First off I hate dog fighting. I've had Pitbulls for 30 years and I absolutely love them. I now have a Dogo and I can assure you a Pitbull would be destroyed by a hard-nosed Dogo. The Dogo is on another level when it comes to weight, strength, and bite force. No matter how game a Pitbull is he has to survive long enough for that to matter.

Although associations such as the AKC establish standards for the breeds, you will see that in Dogos' history, 2 types coexisted when hunting. Those with a slimmer and smaller build, which ran after the prey and wore it down, and more robust and larger bulldogs like Franky, with greater biting power that held the prey more efficiently.
In Argentina you will find lots of these large-sized Dogos.

AKC is a shit organisation because they mix breeds to get bigger like cane corso. Best working dogs between 80 and 120 pounds and not bigger🤷♀️. Also i have work in army for 8 yaers with working breeds and they al are ripped and strong and not overweight. AKC standaarts false here in europe fci is much better organisation also in AKC almost know rule's you can start breeding when you wan't. Standaart for dogo's is not bigger than 100+ pounds and not 140 pounds. Also there is only one line and there from dokter martinez from argentina and not other breeders who are desine this dog. Fci for cane corso is max 125 pounds and in akc 140 pounds akc have great dane is bloodsline from corso to make it bigger. With dogs bigger is not better and with hunting 140 pound dogo is not same as 100+ pound working line dogo. Stil you dog ie verry nice but not 100% dogo because 140 pounds dogo are fake for my it's same with rottweiler. This fake american rottweilerv is a mix breed there is only one rottweiler and thats the german rottweiler ✌.

Also dogo's are catch dogs and only use as catch dogs, this dogs are no bay hunters like a pointer.

Our point was not that one of the two lines was overweight (or to defend that 140 lbs is better), just to let you know that historically have coexited those 2 types of dogos with different purposes when hunting. First , I do like the Dogo, I used too breed dogs know where near professionally, But I’ve talked to well known breeders to get an understanding of genetics and also research! And some breeders have told me about short cuts example American bull dog cross with English bulldog = Olde English bulldog, originally it took 4 different breeds than breed too English bulldog 2x that created the oeb, I’ve read different responses on how the dogo was created I find in my opinion it took 10 different breeds to come with an all white distinct looking dog! Anyway I do like your channel! ✌🏽

Can a short rather petite woman have one of these as well? I have slight experience with (big) dogs 'cause my father has owned a giant schnauzer, a great dane and then a basset hound xD They were always big cuddly fellas, never aggressive to us.
I would love to have one Dogo Argentino in the future, ideally a female pup.
