  • These daily vlog posts are trial and error attempts to learn how to video b-roll better and tell a story both visually as well as verbally. I am using only the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the PYGTech Mantispod Z at the moment. No extra lighting. No tripods. No microphones. Eventually, I will add some other equipment. Right now, however, the focus is on getting the video and learning how to entertwine it together in editing to create a more compelling story.

I like this video, these places are calm and by reading the people's names and dates they were born and died we remember that they mattered, they once were part of the life on this planet. Thanks for sharing!

Good morning, Tim. I am so humbled by all that you shared with us in this video….the extraordinary amount of work that goes into the editing process, the physical work involved, the research, and especially the respect, compassion and reverence that came from your heart. This video really touched my heart, and I deeply appreciate you sharing it with us. God bless all!!! 🙏💙

I loved it! My great grandfather donated land for a cemetery in the town where I grew up in the Missouri boot heel. As a child, it was always a big deal to go to the cemetery and decorate the graves on Memorial Day. I still enjoy visiting old cemeteries and reading the old headstones.

Thanks for showing the unedited clip. So much walking and editing involved. It is amazing to me that you enjoy doing this. But I’m glad you do!

In Cambridge MA there is Mount Auburn Cemetery. At Christmas Time they offer a professional light event throughout for a walk about. Some sections we carried battery operated lanterns and they had chairs to sit and reflect. The chapel had people passing out candles so we could remember a loved on. In the chapel a violinist was playing. Very sacred indeed. Joan

I love old cemeteries. When our farm was homesteaded, the family set aside 2 acres for a family cemetery. As the kids grew and took pieces of the land, the cemetery is no longer on the land we now own, but it is nearby and my husband is buried there. There are quite a few Civil War veteran's buried there and one from the Revolutionary War. Thank you for sharing.

I get what you mean about cemeteries - we have the American Cemetary just 4 miles from my house in the UK. It's got over 3000 military graves from World War 2 and when I walk around there, I feel the enormity of the sacrifice these young people made to keep the world safe.
It's really sobering and I always feel in awe when I go there. It has a little exhibition there too with footage and stories about some of the people there and there's also a memorial wall with the names of all the people who died in the UK during the wall including Glen Miller and Joseph Kennedy as well.
I makes me feel humbled that these people gave their lives in a foreign land that we may be free. I visit there every year to pay my respects.

Very Interesting ! You could just feel the history that was there. I 100% agree about the number of takes and the length of raw footage just to get a few seconds of production video, probably the main reason I do not upload a lot of videos and shorts LoL

My grandmother lived in Corinth Miss, she lived in a mobile home, right next to where she lived was a huge cemetery, me, my sister and my cousin used to walk through it, i found it interesting to see the grave stones that would tell a little story of who was buried there.

Hi, Tim! I like this video on many levels. First, the ambient sounds are important, so I'm glad you didn't use a mic. Next, the variety of shots was good and made the video interesting. Then there is the cemetery itself. I too enjoy visiting cemeteries. Research is one of my favorite pastimes and when I find an interesting grave site, I can research the person and learn a little about their life. I've been able to learn much about my own extended family just through researching graves. Out of six people in my immediate family only two of us remain. The two of us visit those family graves as often as we can, along with members of our extended family who are buried locally. Plus, cemeteries are quiet places where most people who visit demonstrate great respect. I like that. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed seeing it very much. Have a lovely day, Tim!

😊 to you showing what you go thru in placing the camera and editing clips in the video. Just curious how long you spent there for your 10 minute video? All the work that goes into it. Hey, at least you get your steps in for the day 😊

In my experience, the draw of cemeteries is for people of compassion. A cemetery is a place of respect, reflection and recognizing those who lived before us and helps me to put my life and length of time on this earth in perspective . Do you find yourself wandering by some graves and saying things like “I’m sorry if your family has forgotten to take care of your spot”, or stopping to pull weeds around the neglected? I do.

At least I know where this cemetery is! Usually, you’ll show me a cemetery in Chattanooga that I had no idea it existed, but I’ve seen this one for years kind of nestled right in between my daughters k-12 school Chattanooga school for the arts and sciences and UTC where Heather now works. Heather said one of her coworkers sometimes goes there during lunch and plays bagpipes which I thought was kind of interesting. I guess you are not using your Bluetooth start and stop video clip devices anymore based on you having that long clip where you started the camera from the camera instead of by remote. Maybe it doesn’t work at that distance.

Hi Tim. I watch all your daily videos no matter the subject and have learned so much, thank you. The below are just my thoughts after almost 6 months.
Your closing shot could/should have been the inscription on the memorial/grave of the 2 children.
Your videos do have a lot of footage of you walking past, perhaps could you include some first person perspective to mix it up a little?
In today’s video, there are a lot of shots of you just walking past the graves, perhaps more of you reading the stones and show us some of the oldest. The fascination for us would be the same as you, show us the lives and history as apposed to just walking past or away from it.

I have always thought that the Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in East Ridge is an interesting old cemetery. It was founded in 1886 and has some very ornate monuments. You might find it interesting if you haven't already been there.

Thanks for your video. I enjoyed this one a lot. I am not sure what attacks me to cemetery’s either. I think it is the history. I don’t like going to see people I know. Which is strange. Haven’t gone to see my parents in years but old 1800 cemetery’s are so interesting

So this happened when i was watching the video - when you did the long walk to the monument from the building i was looking at the monument and didn’t see you in the distance start your walk. Then all of a sudden you popped up next to the monument. I thought you had made an editing mistake but turns out it was my lack of attention to you in the distance. Not sure if that means you need to fix something or i do but it was an interesting moment for me I am fascinated by cemeteries as well.

I'm right there with you. Cemeteries fascinate me. The fact that it was the time God chose for them to be alive. Their place in history and in God's heart. When l read the dates on the grave stones, most didn't live past their 40's or 50's. Life was harder for them. And although they are not here any longer, l'm always moved to pray for their descendants living now, especially when l come across a soldiers grave.

Every video with walking and wide, medium and close-up shots, I am aware of all the walking to and from and camera movements that are involved. Dedication to your art. Glad you found the the grave that started this cemetery. Interesting. As critique: the background car noise was a bit much for me. And your first scene had no sound at all. That seemed odd.

Then and now. Visiting gravesites is not something that the next generation will feel compelled to do. It seems like it is an ‘old’ tradition that just might go to the wayside. People move. THEN: families had a whole plot for everyone. NOW: cremation. Times change, traditions are altered, nothing is written in stone. There has always been change. You visited the oldest cemetery, where are the people buried who died before that time? 🤔
