This review is absolutely spot on. This gentleman really hits all the main points to consider when purchasing a headset used for a career. As a 737 pilot, I can attest the fact that EMI does exist, and it’s primarily due to the side window heater. It was annoying enough for me to have to return my Bose A20 headset due to the ‘humming’ sound. The closer my head was to the side window, the louder the hum. Fortunately with the purchase of the DC1X, the EMI humming noise interference is no longer noticeable or an issue. This headset is superb in noise reduction. It has profoundly reduced my overall fatigue in the cockpit. It is a ‘cooler’ headset than the Bose A20, in that it breathes on top of the head and has less clamping force exerted, allowing for better comfort.
I heard reviews that the wind noise gets louder whenever talking to ATC. How true is that? I’m considering on getting it but don’t have one to try. Also as the model is quite old, do you know if a new model will be out?
Great review. I purchased this headset for my Cessna 182 and couldn't be happier. Made in the USA and works as it should. I love the iconic green and prefer it over the Bose and Lightspeed. Never have a problem or an issue. I were glasses and again no problem. Very little noise in the cockpit and very comfortable. You get what you pay for although I consider the price reasonable considering what it does and value received.

Thanks for this ! I currently use the DC Pro-X on the 737 without any issues except that on-ear type headsets can be a pain in the ear for eyeglass wearers. However, the Pro-X does a great job because of the softness of the ear pads. Now I am considering returning to an over-the-ear type and this is what I had my eyes on, so this review definitely helps. And you can't beat the DC Warranty and Customer Service !
I swapped from the Pro X to the One X Steven as you’re planning to and I must say I found it to be a great move as I found the Pro to be sore on the ears at 2hrs+. I’m on the 737 too and the One X is comfortable for even 4 hour sectors.
This is hands down the best review of this headset on the internet. I admire your attention to the details related to the sound quality. No one addresses that at all.
Mine are on their way. They've been out of stock everywhere lately, but I don't out from David Clark directly that they shipped 50 units to Marv Golden last week. I put my order in yesterday....and got my UPS tracking # today. Can't freakin' wait!! Thanks for the review. 😎😎

Great review as always from you, full of small and relevant details that are important to know before you buy! Congratulations on your professionalism and unbiased review!!!
Great review, I appreciate your unbiased and thorough review! I'm in the market for an ANR headset and I'm torn between this and the Bose A20. I currently use DC H10-30's and I love them for their durability and comfort. I was wondering what your preference is between those two top-of-the-line headsets?
Thank you for watching and for reaching out! Between the flagships, it truly does come down to preference! For me, currently operating the Boeing 737, the Bose A20 did a better job of handling the intercom and loud flight deck. However, the DC One-X was more comfortable and has better features. It is a tough call to make! You can’t go wrong either way.
Thank you very much! I have several on the channel and many more to come!! Giving it a like really helps me out! Make sure to subscribe if you like aviation content!
Captain Rod, thanks for a great review, as usual. As a guy who is (depending on my Special Issuance) getting back in the cockpit after a few too many decades (long story) buying a headset will be one of the first things on the shopping list. I've had the opportunity to use a pair of Bose A20's in a friend's 172 (180 hp conversion) and they worked as advertised. I did try on a pair of the DC One-X at an FBO and they were amazingly comfortable, and $200 less than Bose. Still hoping to try on some Lightspeed Zulu 3's. Being retired, I have to get bang for the buck, I'll still have to get with a CFI and get back up to speed, there's some $$$. I did get to fly the aforementioned 172 and it was like I knew what I was doing...shook off the rust pretty quickly.
Great review man 😊💪🏾 way to go. Would you review the Bose ProFlight Series 2 as well? I see you’ve used them in some pictures in your videos. Thanks Rod. Great channel
Superb and greetings! Well sir, in this specific case, ask and you shall receive. Scheduled for this week, is the release of my Bose ProFlight review! Please keep in mind that, the difference between the series 1 and 2 is simply the thickness of the main cord connecting the headset to the airplane. I address this, and all the other details, in a very thorough review! Thank you watching!
First rate review. Thank you for putting together such a thorough overview of the DC one-X. I have one comment on night mode operation. To turn night mode on, as per the instructions, press and hold the Bluetooth button then press and hold the Power button. After lights turn on, release the Power button while still pressing the Bluetooth button until lights go out. Now you are in ‘Dark’ mode. In the review you failed to mention the last step of continuing to press the Bluetooth button until the lights go out.
Fantastic! I’m happy you enjoyed the review! My intent was primarily to show it working, thank you for spelling out the step by step process! In the near future I will be reviewing the DC PRO-X2, stay tuned!

Great review - thanks. I think that the DC ONE X's are superb, not always the obvious choice, but a leader in many ways - my only concern is UK warranty/repair support. Horror stories of returns to US taking weeks etc (not sure if that's pre pandemic or during the pandemic) to process/return.
Thank you for watching Muso! Indeed, considering our current world dynamics, that is something to consider! Which option is better out there in the UK?
Most DC warranties/repairs should be directed to Headset Services Ltd (authorised repair centre) based in the UK. The two DC warranty repairs I've witnessed were all carried out by them and it was returned within a week. Mind you, as the first DC headset I've owned is the One-X and it hasn't developed a fault yet, I haven't actually dealt with either DC or HSL so do take it with a pinch of salt.
Thank you sir! Your support is greatly appreciated! We are hard at work to improve our production value with each video! Until the next video, fly safe!

Such a detailed video! Sir I am in your team I am sure you will be along the other top RUclipsrs soon! Such professional quality videos! Btw I had a question- Would you prefer the A20 over the Lightspeed Zulu?
Thank you sir! With your support, I am one step closer to getting there! The Zulu’s are not TSO certified, believe you or not! Because of that, I cannot use them aboard the 737 due to my company’s Ops Specs. I have heard however, from colleagues that use them to fly GA, that they are a fantastic headset and are a great alternative to the Bose A20. Hopefully in the future, I’ll be flying GA more often and will be able to bring you that review.

Rod, just found your channel today and love your channel. It looks like your last headset video was 7 months ago. Have you given any thought into your comparison video? Hope you haven’t stop making videos. I’ve really enjoyed the ones I’ve watched.
I am considering this with the A30. Having the 13.4 currently I wonder how much better this would be. Can I also use this one other aircraft as I want to use it for many many years.
Stay tuned for a comparison video coming up in the near future! Make sure to subscribe to help us out, and, to not miss the comparison video! I do currently prefer the Bose A20 aboard the 737 due to the deficiencies stated in this review. I will also be reviewing additional headsets on this channel, coming soon.
Awesome review! Thank uou very much! I was wondering if anybody has fitted these with the gel ear seals. I find those more comfortable and "sealing"...would they fit this model?
Hard to say where the EMI is being introduced unless you have another headset to A B test them. It’s likely getting into the intercom system or other wires near the jacks in the panel in my opinion.
I am finishing my flight training and I’d like to buy a proper headset for the future. Great video, I am very undecided between David Clark one x and pro x and the Bose a 20. At the moment I think the pro x are good for quite airliners but not that good for GA. I believe the best compromise is still the Bose a 20. As I have no idea about what airline I will work for in the coming months I am very undecided... however thanks for this review one of the best in RUclips. Keep up the good work! I am subscribed
Congratulations!! I’m happy for you, welcome to the world of aviation! Which headset to buy is a very tough decision that has a profound impact, and costs a lot of money! That being said, many stores do have these top tier headsets for you to try them on. Perhaps that would help you narrow it down! Additionally, if you stick with the career, and end up flying for a long time, you’ll own several headsets over time. Don’t hesitate in getting a top tier headset, as it will protect your hearing for a very long time!! I hope my videos help, more reviews to come! Thank you for your support!
@@CaptainRod many thanks! IR coming up in a couple of weeks! I’m more oriented at the Bose a20 I just need to try them to see if they fit with glasses. No one gives you the chance to try them on a flight...they’re very jealous !
It’s a very personal device, I subscribe to the “no sharing” philosophy here! From what I have observed in line operations, after trying many different headsets over the years, is that the Bose A20 keeps the greatest level of noise attenuation with sunglasses on, relative to the competition. This observation is relative to the over-the-ear category of headsets. The on-ear and in-ear will certainly perform the best in this category of performance analysis.
@@Limacharlie733 Sporty's Pilot shop has a 30 day no hassle return policy on their high end headsets... That's what they claim anyway, I've never utilized it. When I start building more hours for my commercial I might just buy all three; Bose A30s, DC x-One and the LightSpeed Zulus and try them all out back to back. According to them you can return the headsets you don't want and they'll give a full refund.
What about noise cancellation? Is it the best compare to other headphones with same price? I didn't hear it from Comport chapter and from Functionality chapter as well.
The chapters are all listed in the video’s description! Make sure to check them out! The noise cancellation is addressed in the Performance section found at 1:43 As far as comparisons are concerned, please subscribe to the channel! Those videos will be coming up! Greetings from the United-Kingdom! I don't know much about aviation kit, I found your video while looking for "pilot headset & handheld amateur radio"... 👍🏻 I would love to know if anyone makes adapters for that very nice headset, to use with a Yaesu FT3DE or an Icom IC-705... Thank you for a very polished presentation, my OCD strongly approves! 🤣 Best regards from the land of the Mach Loop... 🇬🇧🤝🏻🇺🇲
You are simply an extremely detail oriented individual! A fine trait indeed! Regarding your question, it gets complicated fast. The cable that will be used to connect the device to your headset, will depend on the exact chosen device-headset combo models. Most aviation headsets are 2 prongs, and many electronic devices have a 3.5mm TRRS. Here is an example: www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/3299?gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_nZFsBYgxIT-AXT9mrJ2irPxru85AVUKmZrjqTKv7J6ETOeg8DkHwdRoCM68QAvD_BwE I am sorry I cannot be more specific than this, however, it truly does depend! I did notice some proprietary connections with the equipment that you sent. The best way to ensure compatibility is to download the manual and dig deep into the specs to find the plug specs. Then, match that to the connector. Make sure to like and subscribe to help me grow the channel! Your support is greatly appreciated!

Hey y’all! So…….. it really depends on the jet you’ll be flying. The B737 is loud, so it’ll require the one x. The Pro X would be acceptable in a quiet flight deck like the A321 or a wide body aircraft. Hope that helps!
Yes, I'm starting in the 737 (700 to MAX) so want best sound reduction. I'm used to my old DC 10-13.4's but need ANR now. I guess I'll have to shell out for the A30's. Have you done a comparison video on the DC One X vs A30? Thanks for the amazing videos!!!
@wurls1 I don’t have my hands on the new one….. the channel is too small for trial products to be sent my way… hopefully in the future!!! Thank you for the support!
@wurls1 I've been using my one x's for a while on the 737 now. Slightly disappointed in the ANR, and the bose is better with noise reduction. However, I still like this headset and I won't be getting the new bose. It's honestly fine.
The problem is you can not get them. David Clark can not get the parts to make them. Major supply chain issues. Could be another year or so to get the headphones.
Wow!!! I did not know that!! Incredible! Hopefully they’ll get it back in stock earlier than expected. I suppose you ended up purchasing a different one?

I see! So, from a panel powered to a Helo? Yes, there are adapters, you’d have to make sure it is the correct number is pins. Here are 2 options: www.ebay.com/itm/Helicopter-Aviation-Headset-Adapter-Cable-U-174-U-to-Mini-XLR-/282432749016 and also this one www.bose.com/en_us/products/headphones/headphone_accessories/a20-headset-6-pin-to-u174-adapter.html once you select one, send the company an email to make sure you will not have a comparability issue! When I start building more hours for my commercial I might just buy all three; Bose A30s, DC x-One and the LightSpeed Zulus and try them all out back to back. According to them you can return the headsets you don't want and they'll give a full refund.
Which did you get in the end ?
What about noise cancellation? Is it the best compare to other headphones with same price? I didn't hear it from Comport chapter and from Functionality chapter as well.
The chapters are all listed in the video’s description! Make sure to check them out! The noise cancellation is addressed in the Performance section found at 1:43
As far as comparisons are concerned, please subscribe to the channel! Those videos will be coming up! Make sure to check out my other videos as well!
Thank you for watching!
If the battery runs out, does it automatically become a PNR headset?
Greetings from the United-Kingdom!
I don't know much about aviation kit, I found your video while looking for "pilot headset & handheld amateur radio"... 👍🏻
I would love to know if anyone makes adapters for that very nice headset, to use with a Yaesu FT3DE or an Icom IC-705...
Thank you for a very polished presentation, my OCD strongly approves! 🤣
Best regards from the land of the Mach Loop...
Here is an example:
www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/3299?gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_nZFsBYgxIT-AXT9mrJ2irPxru85AVUKmZrjqTKv7J6ETOeg8DkHwdRoCM68QAvD_BwE
I am sorry I cannot be more specific than this, however, it truly does depend!
I did notice some proprietary connections with the equipment that you sent. The best way to ensure compatibility is to download the manual and dig deep into the specs to find the plug specs. Then, match that to the connector.

@@CaptainRod ...Thank you for the reply, I will do more research and hopefully find the pieces of the puzzle I need.
Stay safe up there, we'll make sure the runway lights are turned on... 👍🏻
Rod, are the 737 issues continuous, or only occur when headset is near the side window?
It certainly varies from bird to bird, however, it tends to be most noticeable near the windows.
@@CaptainRod Did you turn off the windshield heat momentarily to see if the interference went away?
\
I did not because it is required to be ON…
Does the ANC cut out on and off when you taxi over a bump? Or on takeoff?
That's a negative sir. I have not experienced any interruptions with the active noise cancelling.
@@CaptainRod ok, thank you. I did notice it with the DC ProX2. I fly the A320.
Unfortunately, I have experienced that issue with the X2 as well. I am currently working with DC on the issue. A thorough review and more information to come, to the channel and my website!
Can you review the lightspeed zulu 3?
When I start flying GA often, I will! I cannot operate my aircraft with a non-TSO’d headset. Make sure to like and subscribe, that way I can grow the channel and bring you more reviews!
Would you use the one x in an airliner, or the pro-x? I'm debating the two for the 737
I'd like to know the same thing!
Hey y’all! So…….. it really depends on the jet you’ll be flying.
Have you tried or compared this to the DC prox2?
I will be purchasing that headset in the near future! Make sure to subscribe so that you don't miss that review when it comes out! Your support is greatly appreciated! After several reviews of different headsets, I will start doing comparison videos. Stay tuned!
@@CaptainRod you are doing a great job. Love how detailed and thorough you are. Spot on for this type of work we do.
I sincerely appreciate the support. RUclips does not make it easy to break into the market!

Well, I have never heard of utilizing this type headset for games. This headset has a dual plug, do you have a system that works with a dual plug?
Hi, may I know is it can be plug to U174?
Yes sir it can! You just have to make sure to purchase that plug type from the manufacture. The model number is DC ONE-XH.
@@CaptainRod is it possible for you to recommend me on this? I wanted to buy the fixed wing enc dc pro-x2 but I can't seem to find the adapters for 6 pin plug to U174 in the accessories section.
For sure! Always look around other stores and you’ll find it! I think you’re looking for something like this www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/sep/1192?gclid=Cj0KCQjwktKFBhCkARIsAJeDT0ggSKhQyiLZ9_vVe8R3yM6GthtEEoZtkUQSzycqsuEQIfJutKhvoL4aAs4DEALw_wcB
@@CaptainRod Thank you for the link but this have 2 dual adapters. I am thinking to buy with the 6 pin plug which is Model DC PRO-X2, Aircraft Powered. Is it possible for me to use the adapter in the link? Sorry for asking too many questions. Need some clarification from an expert though on this.
Good luck!
Great review but valid only if you fly a Boeing 737...
lol!!!!!!!! Please reference your name for my comment….
@@CaptainRod snigger :D
What pen 🖊 are you using? 🧐🤤
The pen that I use is the magnificent Townsend Matte Black from Cross. This is my crown jewel, and truly, an incredible writing instrument.
@@CaptainRod imma check this out 🥸
i need these, but they are still way overpriced considering it was released in like 2016/17
Considering that inflation is going up and up, and that this headset was released years ago with no increase in price, you are paying less for them now relative to when they came out! That being said, these are not cheap! Best of luck with your future endeavors!
