The "fear that's not quite horror" is what another video called terror - the sensation of an imminent threat. Subnautica captures this atmosphere perfectly, especially in a blind playthrough, because something worse could always be out there and you're never in a position to contend with whatever it could be.
Glad you finally got to play Subnautica and enjoyed it. Played it with my kids in 2021 and ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. A perfect survival game. Below Zero is enjoyable but missing that certain something that made Subnautica so special.
Of all time!? That’s some high praise! It’s such an authentic experience. I’m yet to play Below Zero - I’m totally fatigued with the ocean for now, but I’ll get onto Below Zero at some point! Cheers for watching mate.
I've played the game multiple times now, but I am sucked back in due to the Titan situation lol subnautica always made me interested in subs and the tech, but seeing those people stuck in that death trap made me interested again
fight it like anxiety. you need to expose yourself to it again and again to make the brain realize the fear is not real. but to be fair at some points the scares make your heart do the disko beats. can still get me after like 500 hrs 😉
Yes. This is a scary game and the only reason you venture out further is because you need water, food and tools. Once you realize your lifepod is running out of power you have to adventure further. After that, it's an adventure. If Mass Effect Andromeda had an epic planet akin to the trilogy, this would be it.
YES! YOU SHOULD BUY IT! Its not only an excellent experience but it got some needed patches since release and its even better to play than it was during early access and initial release.
A fascinating & riveting account of your uncertain time with this unique game. I have watched several fairly good reviews of the game since launch but none gave me the desire to delve deeper into the game than your wonderful impressions here my friend! Very compelling reasoning for playing & more importantly, experiencing the game in question, quite an enticing review indeed!
I did and loved every minute of it. Being given away on PS Plus and later on Epic Games, I thought it was just some cheap or wonky indie title. I had no idea it would be so great. Def recommend going in blind as well.
Just got back into the game a few weeks ago, and it's fantastic, especially if I only have a short time to play, I can hop in, maybe do a quick resource run, save and then go about my day without worry
i never, for the life of me, used the path finder tool to actually navigate the oceans of this alien world lol. truly the best open world survival game I ever played
to answer the title yessss. and if you really wanna push it then do a no sub run. no seamoth or prawn. cyclops is allowed but only as surface vessel. then you really get to use the features of the plants to your advantage. also get to see way more than you do when using subs + you meet all the locals XD
@@Mxchxlxna that makes the experience even better 💀. I saw a comment of someone who held their breath when going underwater until they got to the surface or to their ship, sounds like a fun way to play.
WOW - That was the best review to this game. I' ve played subnautica over and over from it's Launch. Every time i play a game like Starfield - I think about who did it much better? - Sunautica Part 1. The second "Below Zero" is o.k. but i started Part 1 again during the Game. Loneliness is the Point here and Multiplayer is a killer for that feeling. It can be a lot of fun, but in the same time it sucks out all the feel of a game like that. Below Zero destroyed it with to much Story and the point - that you are not alone. And the World seems way smaller.
I've been gaming since 1997 and this is in top 20 games having place around 10 or lower, it has story, exploration, brilliant mechanics and biomes and I wish I can forget it and play again. Exactly 73 hours of a gameplay to finish a story, no script like in other games, you gotta explore everything. Brilliaaaaaant game, must have must play!
i just finished the game for a second time and it took me 12 hours barely using any tutorials or spending much time not progressing the plot. this game is definitely worth it. it’s biggest issue is that when you finish the main plot there is no longer a reason to play.
I recently completed Subnautica 1 and Below Zero. Enjoyed them both, stunning aesthetically, beautiful soundtrack and good story. Crafting and horror elements. It has everything. Exploring using the Seamoth and navigating through wrecks, honestly this Franchise was like nothing I have experienced in a game before.
NO ONE have played Subnautica until they have experienced it in a high resolution VR headset like Quest 3 or better on a good PC. I have played most of the famous VR titles for years and this is amongst the most immersive experiences I've ever had in VR.
I can't with this game. 4 hours in and I'm struggling to find my bearings. I spend more time gathering raw materials to breath an eat. I find find anything just guess work. And don't bothering venturing out at night. Can't see anything. I think the game gets good later, but goddam: i cant scrounge together enough raw materials to make it passed the beginning.
The year is 2075. The only feasible way to play subnatica is to rummage through a thrift store for an old dusty flat screen and Xbox. It would still be more than worth it. A game with unlimited replayability that will always be astounding.
Should you buy it in 2024...? YES Finished it couple of weeks ago. In my 37 years playing video games. This has hit deep after finishing it...'now what'?
Here's a cool little detail about subnautica that no one ever mentions. Maybe hecause of all the bs going on around it right now. There's a hypothesis that; in the future, all the different races of the world will have intermingled into one race. The genetic appearance of the main characters in the subnautica games look like a mix of all the differe races on earth. I thought that was a cool little detail the game makers took the time to consider.
In the first minute you pretty much summed up why I never played this. Underwater is always my least favourite aspect of games. I always looked past this game for those reasons. I suppose I’ll have to give it a fair shot then!
I'm just wondering, if you were to start a new world, and check the sea emperors portal in her chamber (you know the one where her young go through), would there just be a metal platform there instead? Because that's happened to me and I cannot find any explanation. It worked fine before the living large update, and I'm not sure whether it's because I'm using the commands console or not... the only thing I could find about it was something that happened BEFORE the living large update. Big paragraph but the premise of it is I've no idea what to do, and this is the only video I could find where people would see this comment.
I finished subnautica a couple times. Just got a new pc and havent played this for a few years. Just wondering if theres enough new content to warrant a repurchase?
this is the type of game you should play blind and know eventually it will get boring and its only really good the first 3 times of playing before its just a grind fest
I've ridden along with a variety of "Subnautica" newbies, and I've found that more Thalassophobes "get Alterra's bill" than any other kinds of players. This game has been known to shake up First Person Shooter players who ride hard in, say, "Red Dead Redemption."
Should I buy subnautica on xbox? Ive played and almost beat it on gamepass but then they took it off and 30 dollars for a game I’ve basically finished I don’t know if I will enjoy it. Should I rebuy it and try to play again? Im 14 and dont have a job so I do not like spending money. I even more don’t like spending money on games
Worth it in late 2024? - ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! DON'T waste your money...Subnautica 2 is coming out in the next 30/60/90 days, with a newer gaming engine (UE5) which will be leaps and bounds better than the Unity engine this game was built on. Plus, UWE is greedy!! This is a 10-year-old game and they are STILL charging full price - $30 The best mods for this are stuck in the Legacy version...and UWE didn't have enough programming acumen and foresight to make sure that Unity engine updates were compatible or friendly to existing mods. If you 'must' have it, get it when it's in the $5 bin or just borrow it from your friend.
Subnautica has realistic graphics but compared to no mans sky.No mans sky is the better exploration game. Subnautica you have limited exploration while NoMans sky has infinite exploration.
Work's best with a Logitech F710 wireless controller, used in real subs
Nice! Maybe I am gonna try to play with that controller too
Too soon!
I think I found the Titanic..:0

Totally agree. Going in with a walkthrough by your side would spoil the experience.
