I live in Northern New York, and we picked up Canadian television stations. for years I watched and thoroughly enjoyed Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry is truly an icon,
I wanted no distractions during Hockey Night in Canada. I didn't want to answer the phone during Hockey Night in Canada. I prepared special snacks to enjoy during Hockey Night in Canada. And I had a notebook at my side to keep track of all the other game scores during that time, to see how the outcomes of the two games that I was watching affected my favorite team in the standings. It was always a very special and exciting evening. Can someone give me a link to the petition to reinstate Don Cherry? He was like a Master Ceremonies for the program. He made each broadcast an exciting event.

I immigrated to Canada from the Philippines for almost a decade now. Don Cherry actually said “you people” that others may find offensive. BUT I don’t personally considered it as a mockery and/or racism. It’s in the delivery, he is genuinely stating a fact. My 11-year-old son even reminded me to wear a poppy as a sign of respect.
Cancel culture is way out of the line. And yes, firing Don Cherry unnecessary. Cmon guys! There are far more important things than being a snowflake ❄️.

There was uproar all over the country when he was fired. He was so beloved and the fact he got fired on his favorite day really pissed so many of us off. There were so many better ways to go about the situation but no, they fired him. They fired a legendary entertainer because he said he need to honor vets.

My brother and I used to look forward to a new Rock'Em Sock'Em every Christmas. They were hilarious.
It was a highlight reel of the past year in hockey (before 24 hour sports channels did nothing but show highlights, mind you) where he dedicated a solid half of it to hits and fights. He loved it all, and so did we.
Plus, you got his commentary throughout. And for you tea-sippers out there who don't know, Don's commentary was a beauty.

The Compilation videos Crowder's talking about was called "Don Cherry's Rock'em Sock'em Hockey" and was a compilation of Don Cherry's picks for the best hits, fights, goals, saves and all round greatest plays. The first one was his all time favorites, and after that he released one every year that was a compilation of his favorite plays from the previous seasons. I had a ton of them on VHS in the day, and they were a treat to watch.

My parents came to Canada, from the Netherlands, in 51. It was my dad's dream when Canadian soldiers stayed in the barn on the family farm and used it as a base to clear Nazi soldiers out of the area.
I wear a poppy and even wore a poppy mask last November. I go to the war memorial ceremonies on Nov. 11 and I place my poppy on the monument when the ceremony is over. It's the least I can do for what those soldiers did for my family and ultimately for me.

It’s interesting to see the different perspectives on this situation from different media outlets.
From Boston, Don Cherry coached my beloved Bruins with alot of hard-nosed, battling success, and I always loved his outlandish yet effective personality. He's a legend, an icon, and a gift to not only hockey, but broadcasting in general. His firing was an absolute disgrace.

This was a low point for Canada. This man was a legend loved by generations. This was blown way out of proportion and goes to show that freedom of speech is dying.

As was pointed out in the video Canada has no free speech only hate laws. So there is nothing to fall back on when you say someones dog looks funny. They will immediately look for some reason to be offended and make sure the world knows it.

Bobby Orr left the Bruins in '76. Cherry started coaching the Bruins right around the time Orr left. But Don loved Bobby Orr. Lots of Canadians of a certain age consider Bobby Orr the best hockey player that ever lived. He played less than 10m years in the NHL. He had bad knees.
