Actually, you’re closer to the truth than you know. Since magnet fishing and river/lake/pond diving has become more popular there has been a number of cold cases solved due to citizens finding lost evidence under water.

At one point- law enforcement HAD to have a murder weapon in order to secure a conviction (basically)
Magnet fishing could solve crimes from many years past
Especially in key locations where mobsters /criminals are known/ expected to dump weapons
I've only gone magnet fishing once. Yesterday I did about 3 hours. Trial and error seems to be the way to go. The only tip ive learned is to tie your rope to something just in case a sea monster takes your line. Also I personally don't like to tie it to myself, because of 1000 ways to die. Also in case a sea monster takes the line. Good snags 😀
