- Level 9 of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II titled "Fuel Station Launch". Played on the Medium difficulty with 100% secrets.
After successfully escaping from the palace, Jan takes Kyle to the refueling station just outside of Baron's Hed so that he can board the Sulon Star and find 8t88 with the deciphered map to the Valley of the Jedi. However, Kyle must face heavy Imperial resistance along the way, including a pack of ravenous Trandoshans, while trying to avoid getting blown up by the engine fuel!
I had a demo of multiple star wars games, and this level was one of them. This was the level that got me into this game as a kid.
Same here, but I never bought the full game. Still, I remember this level even today.
The Devil Same here, thank god this game is still on steam
I'm amazed people still remember that this level was the demo level for this game. Did they release it on CDs included with gaming magazines back in the day?
Mazryonh Indeed thats how i first played this game.
ArmaBiologica35
Same here. My first computer game!
I lost count of how many times I played this demo. Probably what got me into PC gaming.
Second that!
Thirded.
Well, one of the earliest.
Hey here's why there are hidden areas that aren't labeled secret areas.
The entire game is designed so that you can beat it without the use of force powers. You can also find all of the official secret areas without force powers. Anything that requires a force power to access is not labeled a secret area. A couple of the areas you went to required force jump or force speed to access.
Though weirdly in the expansion there's an unofficial secret cache that's just hidden under a lift. No need for force powers but not labeled a secret.
I love that the game counts droid bystanders as dark side kills, but it’s open season on the Ugnaughts, that’s absolutely hilarious. I wonder if that was unintentional or the devs just really hated Ugnaughts.
I think most people hated them up until we met Kuiil's character in Mandalorian. Before that Ughnaughts where basically just target practise
@@rovhalt6650 Ughnaughts and Tuscan Raiders haha
This game was a huge part of my childhood. I remember begging my dad for it at Future Shop in the 90's back when games were in magazine sized boxes. What a great game.
This game brings back so many memories. Thank you for the nostalgia :)
I think that every 2 levels or so (after getting the lightsaber), you gain (I think) 2-3 stars. You gain an extra star if you find all of the secrets. If you plan on playing the game, just know that if you kill "innocents" (townspeople, etc) then you gain Dark Side points. If you refrain from killing innocents, then you gain Light Side points. This was the first game in the Star Wars repertoire that used this system of "light side/dark side" to tell the story. Most of the games up to this point were based solely on the movies, and you really didn't have a "choice" like this game presented. Even Force Unleashed didn't give you a choice. You just followed the story. So, enjoy the game. Great walkthrough and commentary.
Nostalgia everywhere. I played this level so many times as a kid because it was the free demo. It's got a little ugly, but it's still good. Like the best kind of woman.
+DaveDexterMusic I feel you
Yes I rememebr playing this as the free demo before I had finally saved enough pennies to purchase the full version game.
EXACTLY my case and why Im now watching this. I think here where I live it was demo cd from game magazine called Excalibur :) Im from Czech republic btw.
First Star Wars game I ever played was the demo level for this, and the first level for mysteries of the sith. Friggin nostalgic for the countless times I played through this level!
The trandoshans used to scare the shit out of me when I played this as a kid.
I played this years ago on a Win 98 system. Loved it, just complete immersion in the SW universe. I'm not a huge fan of FPS or other types of shoot'em ups, but this made me want to go back to it over and over again.
In other new i just picked up SW Battlefront. Lots to like, but I can't say that I love it.
I always turn around to see the Max's face in the end of this level. :)
this is my favorite level of all time of any game. the level design for this is FLAWLESS.
My favorite too. I like the part when you have to go through the pipes. It's fun.
This game's average level design is _astounding_. If titles like Quake, HL, NOLF or Deus Ex are hypotetically Tier 1 examples of FPS level design, this game would be Tier 0.
Other than maybe having to kill noncombatants for secrets.
Amen to that.
There's probably a special place in Hell for this joke, but, #ugnaughtlivesdontmatter.
its been over 10 years since ive played this game and i still remember this level almost perfectly
thankyou so much for sharing, when I got my first PC I had only this level on demo and I've been trying my hardest to remember the name of the game / level. finally found :) good times
15 years....15 years since the last demo play on my old pc and finally i found it again. I'm so happy, this game is a master piece :D
I am remaking this level in UE4 for my final in college btw. Only this level, fully in UE4 up to todays standards ;p
Can I see that? :) I'm, trying the same but to learn how to use the Unreal Editor :)
so, did you do it?
1 star for 10 secrets?! They should at least give you like 5 maybe!!
Still remember this level from the demo :)
only now did i realize that there's no music in my game! damn it, this Steam version sucks... so that's why it tried to read the content of the CD i got in the slot at the time, it tried to read the game music! i got so immersed i didn't even notice. there are some patches that supposedly fix that but people say they don't work on Win 7, phew... i'll see what i can do tomorrow.
now, this level pissed me the hell off. and not because i spent so long walking around trying to figure out those pumps, those valves, those lids and shit. that was fine. what was NOT fine was that just when i was giving myself an imaginary high five for finding as many as five secrets out of ten, the game was kind enough to inform me that i'm gonna get exactly zero stars for it. my life in a nutshell.
about the training droids, they are best taken care of with the Bryar pistol in my opinion (i still love to use it, despite being so far into the game, it's just so accurate and you don't need to worry about the ammo so much). is it just me or they are the only enemy in the game whose attack takes as little as ONE point of your shield?
Actually the crossbow is a better weapon for the remotes. It's just as accurate as the pistol, but it only takes one shot to destroy them. For some reason though, it's harder to destroy them at close range once they're alerted, than it is to take them out from a distance. It's not that they're moving either. They can be sitting perfectly still right in front of you and your shots seem to go through them. It's like their hitboxes aren't properly centered on the remote. Anyway, I like to snipe them with the crossbow while they're still dormant.
Fuel Station Launch is one of my grand favourites!! I first learned to be discreet in my approach in this level. Another fun bit..
The long lift at the end...you can set some mines down for the storm troopers to go into the lift...wicked funny!
This level was in the demo I played about 16 years ago... been looking for this game for ages lol
Me too. XD
how did you hack graphics or get graphics like this pls tell me
From what I recall you get two stars in Fuel Station Launch if you manage not to kill any of the Ugnaughts AND get all of the secrets and items. Oh, and, yeah, killing the Ugnaughts does factor into your light-side/dark-side morality scale development.
"Stay sharp...no problem!...!
I played the demo so much that I could practically finish this level with my eyes closed. I enjoyed every bit of it.
At the very end of the level, do a 180 degree turn as you land on the ship. The fuel lines that you jump from have Max's face on them.
So much going through fuel and dropping down pipes! Though it's of the fun kind......
Loving that Consussion Rifle! Though it eats through ammo...... Nearly at 300 subscribers! You very well deserve it!
Easily the best level in the game and one of the best levels of any game ever.
The Trandoshans captured a Sith Lord?! Holy crap, these guys don't play around. It's a pity, though, that they only appear in this level because they would've offered an incredible increase in difficulty in some of the much later levels. But anyway, thank you for the compliments, my friend. I'm very glad that you're enjoying this. =D
I have a hunch that the reason the Ugnaughts don't count towards the Dark Side - Light Side alignment is because of an oversight caused as a result of all those explosive barrels present in the level. Explosive barrels can be strategically employed in combat AND give the player the satisfaction of watching something blow up-- there's nothing more fun than watching a bunch of enemies fly around the room in all directions and off the edge of platforms to their doom, should they even survive the explosion YOU caused. However... the VERY TEMPTING ORANGE BARRELS don't mix well with the alignment mechanic once you actually fill the facility up with innocent workers that will, inevitably, die a horrible, fiery death at the player's hands. Because there's no way to tell if the player blew a barrel up on purpose or by accident, it wouldn't be at all fair for Kyle to receive Dark Side points for killing the Ugnaught that happens to be in the blast radius. So, to combat this, the developers must have omitted Ugnaughts from the list of NPCs that affect Kyle's alignment.
It is also possible that the Ugnaughts don't count towards Kyle's alignment because of their, at best, morally grey depiction in ESB. It's possible that the Ugnaughts working in the fuel station are in the employ of Jerik and his Dark Jedi, therefore they can't truly be considered "innocent" per se.
(Or one of the developers just REALLY has it out for those nasty little guys)
Holy crap, I've been looking for this game for years! I played it as a kid but never remembered the name. It's been etched in my imagination for 20 years. I checked out the first levels of every Star Wars-FPS, but concluded I must have misremembered it being Star Wars since it was never the level I remember. Turns out it was the demo-disc that everyone in the comments are talking about. A bit weird to use a lategame level for the demo? Haha. Good stuff either way! Feels so weird seeing it for the first time in 20 years, like visiting a place from your childhood.
Oh my god, my entire childhood was a lie!
I played the demo 10x and never knew I could get through the grate in the floor using a lightsaber to cut through, I just thought the demo ended there and didn't have a cutscene....
I like to think that the training remotes are in the fuel lines to kill any mynocks that get into the fuel lines.
Star wars? But... the walkways at the start have guard rails! How is this Star wars? :P
This station was built before the Emperor defunded Space OSHA.
Alternately, it was built with materials from the set of Space Mutiny. #RailingKill
Elsewhere, on another Planet, Kuiil the Ugnaught tells passerbys the tale of how a Jedi Knight carelessly committed a massacre on his people on Sulon.
That's a tale I'd listen to
I will soon. It's just that those levels take a lot of time to memorize because they're so extensive. I might even give Enemy Around the Corner a try in the future.
I was trying to remember which level was in the demo cd. My friend got a new pc for 1997 christmas, and a german gamestar with a demo cd with age of empires and jedi knight. this was the level.
Played this, as a kid, and I used to go to this website, called Triscuit's Cogs, and the Cogs, were game mods, you could have a double bladed saber, shoot level map pieces out of guns, turn on God mode and much more. Used to play the demo, and then load up the Cogs, and use them, on the MSN Gaming Zone lol amazing memories, dude.

Can anyone give a hand with this? I'm playing on 64-bit Windows, using the JKE.EXE ( I copied all the files, including all the video files from both CD1 and 2 to my hard drive), but right before starting this mission, the movie won't play, and whenever I choose the movie from the movies list, the games asks to insert CD2. I do it but it never works :(
Replying to my own question because I fixed the problem! Apparently you'll need a special file named "JK_.CD" which enables you to automatically load video files from CD2. I didn't know that, so if you guys encounter the same problem, there's the solution.Cheerioh!
I know this a little late, but maybe it will help someone else...
Copying the JK_.CD file from either disc only works for that disc. In other words, if you copy the one from disc 1, you'll be asked to insert disc 2 when you play those levels. If you copy the one from the second disc, it will ask for the first disc when you play those levels. You can't copy both because they have the same name.
To fix this, someone created a new JK_.CD file that works for both. You can find it on various sites under the name JKCDFix.zip. It's just a little 4-byte file like the originals, but it works for both discs and the game loads entirely off the hard drive. :)
I forgot how much I loved the Ugnaughts' voice.

One of the best weapons in the Dark Forces series is the concussion rifle. In the original game, those Trandoshans would hit you with that and knock you off of platforms and things. Darn reptiles.
Just a secret!
17:20 The door is a healer. Stop at the door and your health will be full (it also works on enemies.)!
Haha yeah, I'm glad I used that track. And, there's more remixes to come, too! =D
"TRAND-ocean?"
I think it'd be pronounced "TRAN-do-shann."
Al Antolovich Yeah, it is.
***** Toe-May-Toe / Toe-Maw-Toe
And I'm pretty sure I've heard it pronounced Trand-Ocean more often than Tran-Doe-Shan... but either way, who cares.

I was stuck in the fucking dome for hours! Thanks for the help.
In 17:21 Have you noticed your health magically regenerated from 99 to 100 when you crossed that passage? :D
It did? Dude, I never noticed that! In all the years I've had this game I never knew that that little passage acted as a healing area.
and at 17:13, it goes from 100 to 99 in that elevator. Game glitch!
this and the next levels are my favourite level
Rian Johnson had righ with The Last Jedi. The ships have fuels and gasoline inside.
On which engine was this game created? Sometimes the game is crashing after a cut-scene when i finished a level. It's annoying. Save often is helping. :-)
Incredible game and best level used to be on demo so smashed this level so many times! classic game my favourite! shame it works shit on steam!!! any fixes?
Which version of the game is that? That looks awesome. Is it some kind of remake or just a mod? I play it with gog version but it's nothing like that...
love this level but damn those trandoshans are a pain in the ass.if you dont know beforehand where they are they can kill you instantly, hate them so much XD
They were scary when I first played it 20 years ago the sound of the concussion rifles
I was like 6 or 7 playing this demo on my grandmother's pc and for years I tried to find it again. The demo was this exact level too lol. Boy this brings back memories.
Last I checked, killing UGnaughts do count as a morality. ////////////////////////////i remember using them as a quick trip to the dark side. Maybe I remember it wrong.
I used to play this level in the past on the Dark Forces 2 demo, it was long and a bit confusing.
Yeah!
Good game 😎👍
Is this a mod or is this redesigned in the jedi academy engine or something? The weapons look way cooler in this.
Cool level, I love the "playground" section of the level, lol. So the Concussion Rifle comes from Dark Forces II... It doesn't appear on JK2, but it re-appears on JK3 (Jedi Academy). This weapon is so powerful that even the lightsaber can't deflect the shots of it. Instead, you have to use Force Push to deflect the shots. And those Ugnaughts... To me they are the "Oompa-Loompas" of Star Wars, lol.
Anyway, nice video man!
Oh how the demo kept me occupied as a kid, the ugnaughts were the most hilarious thing to me, like the one just sitting indian-style on an explosive barrel...wtf? Also the original textures were so bad (and purpleish!) for them, they didn't really look like they did in the movie so I had no idea what they were
wish there were more games like this
I can only remember this level, so it could be i only played the demo :D
But some video sequences are quite familar to me, and the first level, i am confused but this got me into pc gaming
I had so much fun in this level. I would turn on god mode then go into the pipes and fire fast firing weapons like the repeater and make myself get thrown all over the place. Another thing I would do was lure the troopers into the control rooms into the pipes. A few shots and their bodies go bouncing everywhere. 🤣
Several times during this video: "Knock it *OFF,* orchestra guys, it's not _that_ dramatic!"
Re training remotes: I really doubt the thing from ANH was intended canonically to be for training only. It's just a little gun platform, so it makes sense you'd encounter them guarding remote areas.
I think it’s funny how they let the trandoshans carry such high powered weapons around a fuel depot. Makes no sense at all.
This game as a whole is a masterclass in bad level design but this really takes the cake. What an absolute chore.
This looks interesting
Oh yeah, by SDL, I meant the 2011 version. Sorry about that. =P But in terms of liking one better, I honestly like both of them equally. I thought the original was slightly more challenging because the levels were pretty extensive, which I really liked, but at the same time, the 2011 version seemed to have more manageable gameplay, in my opinion. Plus, I liked the idea of marking secrets with "out of the ordinary" things. It saved time, and I thought it was... different.
Why replay the game with JKE? I like JKR but JKE really kills the feel of the game.
Also, how did you get music working on your JK!?
I played with the Enhanced mod to give the game a little more "oomph" for my Let's Play. And if anything, I don't think it kills the feeling of the game at all. And about the music: I used the original CD version. I think that's what makes the music go.
Yeah it reads off the CD, I was hoping you found some unheardof way to get the music to load from another folder.
I think it kills the retro feel of the game, for me the models, levels, and textures is what makes JK JK (guns look COMPLETELY different).
I see what you mean. =)
What version are you using? I have the original version with way worse graphics.
Like many of the people in the comments, I first played this level in the demo. I was a diehard Amiga user and didn't even have an Intel system until late 1999 when a family friend gave me a P2, 233Mhz system. He installed four game demos on it; The Fuel Station Launch demo for Jedi Knight, Hexen II, Half-Life: Day 1 and SiN. Other than a very brief play of Dark Forces at a friend's house (literally like 5-10 minutes), those were my introduction to FPS games.
The SiN demo took forever to load, so I only ever played it once back then. I had no idea what I was doing, didn't invert the mouse so I couldn't hit anything and wrote it off as unplayable. The others were better, and I played the hell out of them. Jedi Knight was my favorite because it loaded the fastest and even loading saved games was almost instant so I could screw around and try different things.
I was especially impressed that the sound effects seemed like they were taken right of the movies. Remember, I was used to just traditional video game sounds and occasional speech. I eventually bought the full game along with the expansion.
BTW, I discovered a bug while playing this level, although it seems to work in any level. If you Force Pull the weapon out of an enemy's hands, then save the game and reload it, they will be carrying the weapon again, although they still act like they don't have it. You can even Force Pull it again, save, load and repeat. Unlimited ammo! I didn't use it to cheat though. I noticed it in the room at 20:22. I pulled all the imperial weapons, saved, got wrecked by the Trandoshans, loaded my saved game and everyone had weapons again, but didn't shoot me. So I tested it with a single Stormtrooper and every time I reloaded, he had another rifle. :)
I suppose each of them have a little bit of both. I dunno, it has been a while since I've played either, so, maybe I'm forgetting some parts of them. Anyway, thanks, man! It feels good to know that I've gotten this far, and after all, you're one of 'em, so thank YOU! =D
Oh no, I did enjoy the first one very much. It, compared to the 2011 version, had more of a "run-and-gun" type of gameplay, which I do like. And yeah, by manageable, I mean that it was easier to come up with a certain strategy or method of doing the level in the 2011 version.
When I first played the demo of this game I was definitely not in the habit of reading boring things like "objectives". So, for the longest time I thought that tank in the middle of the first indoor area WAS the cargo ship, because hey, it's clearly a rocket in a silo, right. Don't all rockets have their fuel exposed directly below their passenger compartment?
I do love how the pipe you go over the top of in the big open room, you later go back through.
Easter egg! If you look behind you at the retracting fuel pipe at the end of the level, it has Max's (from Sam & Max) face on it! Well, in the original; it looks like you have a texture pack here.
Thanks for putting this up, was legit struggling to find that wrench
Aw, man! I found that triple secret once and then completely forgot it existed. Either that or I dismissed it as just one of my crazy dreams. Either way, it was interesting seeing it again.
I've always liked the sound the Ugnauts make when you bump them.
Opening and closing the doors in the horizontal fuel tanks was always fun to me for some reason. I actually managed to let it close while I was in the track once and I was stuck in the top.
(A-D-D-F_Toxic)
Nice... The Force Unleashed cutscenes took literally ALL DAY to upload... What a headache.
It won't Spear Resurrection, DOS or SDL. It'll be another really cool one, though. =)
By the way, do you not like the SDL version of Spear?
It was never in Outcast? Huh, I could've sworn it was. Guess that goes to show how long it's been since I played it. And I've never played Academy. And I love the Ugnaughts. They're just hilarious. =D
Dropping down those pipes, yeah, that's, for some reason, has to be one of the most parts in this level for me. And that Concussion Rifle, though. It'll rip through just about anything.
And thanks for the compliment, man. 300 subs feels good. =)
Is this a remastered version? The graphics / UI looks different from my version I had!
this is JKE - enhanced mod installed. with Alternate HUD as well. I play JKR now, having a blast :)
weird, i followed this video as i was playing but still managed to do it out of order. yet it still worked. although if you drain the fuel too low then the bridge will be at the same level as the fuel and you cant cross.
Geez, I forgot about this level. THIS game was like Half Life. Every level unique and large. Back when games were games.
Hi, Mr. Lightningboltforever! I love your walkthrough of a classic!
I also really like the remix at the very end of this video! Do you happen to have the link to the full song?
At the very end of the level, do a 180 when you make the jump and you'll see 3 max faces looking back at you!
I wonder if it is possible to run this game without CD. If yes, then probably the music won't play.
Better late than never...
Yes, it's possible to play without the CD. It can be done without anything extra, but you won't get music and it only works for one CD at a time. There are fixes for both problems.
There's a full guide here;
pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Jedi_Knight_%E2%80%93_Dark_Forces_II
Note: Some of the links go to JKDF2.com which no longer works. That site is now at JKDF2.net.
Also note, I was using the music fix on my older XP system and the game would occasionally crash. After getting rid of it and just playing without music I haven't had a single crash. It may work better on newer versions of Windows. Also, the music would play through the cutscenes, making it hard to hear what the characters were saying.
Ah, the memories... The demo of the game I played as a kid was this specific level, and I must have played through it at least a hundred times.
Lightening Bolt - your commentary is wonderful - and funny!! Thanks for the entertainment - and the memories!!
Is this version available for Windows 10?
Holy crap, I just looked. An hour and a half long video?! Well, I can understand why. =O
Does the music comes with the original game or is it the patches?
it is. it was red book audio cd.
I dont' get it, what button do you press for secondary attack?
By default it's spacebar.
That's what I was saying after waiting an hour and a half for this to upload, lol.
I'm guessing the reason the Rail stormtroopers aren't as fearsome is because that they're stormtroopers.
Either that, or they don't fire as often as the Trandoshans do.
I wonder what would happen if you placed sequencer charges on the fuel tanks.
I'm not a huge gamer or Star Wars fan, but this is one of my favorite games ever playing
omg i was going crazy trying to figure out how to cut through that lid in that big circular room lol
