Yes, the animation work is not the best out there,; however, Theevan still manages to outshine any hollywood superhero blockbuster by weaving a beautiful fantasy yet authentic story about unconditional love. The setting itself is, intentionally, ambiguous leaving its interpertation to the eye of the beholder. Even though we cannot hear the characters' voices/personality, the ethereal soundtrack does a wonderful job in filling the gaps with the help of the viewer's imagination.
Cr1tikal sent me here. A well-written universe with developed characters and cgi that puts James Cameron's work to shame. Looking forward to seeing his inclusion in Young Justice.
as much as you guys may make fun of this guys animation, hes actually getting a lot better. compare his latest stuff to this, uuuhm... piece (?), and theres a lot of growth. good on you danan, good on you
I love the symbolism and imagery within this exquisite piece of film. It's a tale of grief, love, and sorrow. Meeya right of the bat is distinctive from the rest of the bald cast. She represents a person with free spirits and big dreams. Theevans time riding the dragon shows he too has dreams, but they aren't nearly as complex as Mias. Her journey represents the naive belief that dreams can be accomplished, and the dragon that ultimately kills her down is the reality that dreams are meaningless and life is pointless. Alas, Meeeyah is dead and we see the gripping emotions within this film. Theevans inner turmoil is expertly shown on screen as he combats the goblins. And as fire inevitably turns them away, the expert director shows us that light and happiness can turn away any dark inner thoughts. But once theevan finally faces the dragon in the climax of this art, the true message is shown. That the harsh truth of reality cannot be ignored. Yerevan calls out miyas name shows his acceptance, that meeeha is dead and being angry at the world would not change that. That death is permanent and inevitable. Theevan gracefully walking of the cliff shows this fact, and makes the true theme apparent. Life is like a box of chocolates, its made in a factory and everything is carefully planned out and you have no control over what flavors are available. But you can dream. You can imagine. Which is why Tibetans enters the house at the end, he is picturing his perfect reality. Dreams, acceptance. I compliment the complexity of this film, especially the ending. It's impossible to interpret the true meaning of this masterpiece. It truely is an enigma. It will be immortalized amongst the greats and analyzed by up and coming directors for years to come.
Unlike these blockbuster films, Teevan actually contains substance, Here we have a strong comprehensive plot with amazing pacing, the characters are not ONLY relatable but progress wonderfully throughout this film. That aside, if the heart wrenching story did not catch you then maybe the animators eye shall? The lighting is absolutely phenomenal, stunning work honestly. I haven't seen anything this complex, yet easy to comprehend for my feeble mind. The animation is smooth and honestly appealing. I could go on about this but I'm running out of time. In conclusion to this comment, I will state that this is perhaps the BEST film to ever been made.
My only complaint is that we didn't get to see Theevan's penis at any point. I feel like it really would have contributed to the film, and to the audience's understanding, if we could get at least a brief glimpse of his meaty uncut schlong.
That is so right. Not only did Theevan include the best characters, writing, dialog, and plot, it also featured some of the best landscapes, fluid animations, and character designs that I have ever seen. For instance, that scene in which Theevan fights the dragon on the mountain inspired me to make three oil paintings of that scene, none capturing its beauty. The originality of this film is stunning, and from a visual arts standpoint, the animation on most Ghibli films don't even hold a feather against this marvelous masterpiece. Overall, 69 trillion out of 10.
I don't understand why people are making fun of your animations. You're still learning and your channel has improved a lot over the years, everyone has to start somewhere. Christ...
what a great collaboration by oscar winning director/artist/animator/designer/storyboard artist/scriptwriter danan thicklethacklethan & sithamarappaparappatherapper productions
an absolutely fantastic film. the best sequel to infinity war one could ask for. had me crying the whole time, with its underlying messages of capitalist dystopia. a legend of modern artwork and animation. simply stellar.
You know today is my birthday, but I was feeling really down today and didn't do anything other it at my computer and look at silly pictures all day trying to make myself happy. Alas, I am here with 2 hours left in my day and still am not cheered up, that was before I found this video. Now my last two hours have brought me unimaginable joy, this story is deep even without voice acting I can say it speaks to me in a way without words. Thank you for making this masterpiece.
There's something very special about this movie, I love all the funky wild hair this is amazing. Silly and all, but still, quite an accomplishment, making a 29 minute film.
Sorry you had to sit through all that. I made it for fun and yes, there were times where I should have put more effort in. Thanks for the honest opinion. I will definitely work on improving next time.
Theevan's story is really that of a real man. His tale full of woe, as he realizes he can't break the tide of Mia's departure. He tries his best, but alas fails the end product. Mia was the source of his healthy life, the end of her means the end of Theevan. As she goes her seperate way, you can really see the hardships he had to bear take form crushing his hopes and dreams.
Still possibly my favorite video of all time. I wish I was a billionaire, so I could create a thousand mile-long television that floated in the sky (and blocked out the sun) and play Theevan on it, all day, everyday, forever.
I dont think any thing on this earth could replicate just how heart touching and breath taking this short film is. I strive to make something of this high class
Lol, the water is what I struggled with the most. My PC would freeze many times with water so I had to pretty much guess where he swims. Its very tedious to work with the ocean simulator...
Despite the poor experience in this, the storyline really is well done! But does anyone know how Theevan relates to meeya ? Is she his mother? Sister? Also, it’s nice to know Thilakanathan studios improved a LOT!
I watched this expecting it to just be surreal and weird, but I did have a genuine emotional reaction to the story. I’m glad you’re still making movies, I can see the passion in this.
You know, for what it is, the story isn't terrible. It needs to be more coherent, definitely and the animation and models are pretty awful. But after looking at some of your new stuff, I can see that you've gotten WORLDS better since making this. Your new stuff is still a little wonky in some regards but if you keep improving at this rate, you'll be making professional quality works in no time. I kind of want to see this remade someday, maybe when you ARE a professional. I think it might be really interesting. Kinda wonder how it'll look with an improved story, visuals that are (much, MUCH) better, and maybe an original soundtrack.
Thanks for watching *****! Theevan was a rushed experimental film made for Uni at a time where I had no experience, little did I expect to get (any) attention. I do plan to make a Theevan 2 someday though, which will hopefully be much more improved since I can take my time a bit more.
Thilakanathan Studios or you can make it purposely bad to the point that it's amazingly funny. It could be "The Room" of CGI youtube. but your the creator not me...so do whatever you like.
One of the best short films I have ever seen in my life. I decided after seeing this to follow my dream to become a forest goblin and beat up random people.
nice use of sub-surface scattering *edit: tbh the storyboarding is quite nice, i can really imagine this to become a beautifully animated film with some reworking.
This movie beats Game of thrones and Lord of the rings in terms of fantasy. This movie made me believe in god again and makes me forget about my abusive parents. cant wait for theevan to enter the marvel cinematic universe
Either way, it still took genuine effort to produce. If it's a joke, then it's a masterful sendup of amateur 3D work. If it's a genuine attempt to tell a story, with limited tools/experience, well, then I respect the attempt. Either way, I'm enjoying the Hell out of it.
Your film is an inspiration of expensive camera path story-boarding. The flow you have created kept my attention and in a consistent mood of anticipation. Great work for all by yourself.
no, Theevan sees Meeya in the eyes of the dragon and hence doesn't want to stab it. I didn't explain it well enough, I agree. Thanks for watching though!
Years have gone by but I still remember watching this before on my other channel, great work and great story! I have signed up to your class, I really want to learn from you, and improve. And get my stories from the heart out, bring forth things people have never seen, just as you have. Just that you are a inspiration, and I can't wait to learn from you, and maybe someday have you check on my work, one day.

Thanks Floreum..yea, I realised too late I could have just modelled the clothes with the character. This time around, I've done exactly as you said and getting much better results!
This is the most sinister, unsettling and altogether disconcerting thing I have ever watched. I loved every minute of it. 10/10 would watch again if I wasn't so sleep deprived from the fucking nightmares it gave me. Theevan's ainguished face will forever haunt my dreams.
One of the best short films out there. 10/10 ; a cult classic.

a interesting sequel could be him climbing out of the water and heading back up the cliff only to commit suicide again, Theevan 2: The Resurrection
Nice to see someone with a similar sense of class, I trust you are subbed to twitch.tv/moistcr1tikal?

On a serious note looking past the animation, did theevan really kill himself?
I think so, the guy who pointed the mountain out said something like "you get to know your true self." and Theevan's was being with Meeya in death
