    It's not because of the UV resin, it's actually because of the mica powder dulling the shine of the mold. The spots where the uv resin was stays glossy because it's being protected by said uv resin.

    Maybe try a Gel (uv) polish clear top coat, instead of UV resin, top coat does not get as hot as the resin does. Just an idea I had. I am a nail enthusiast that has been drawn to resin.

    Tip to prevent the mold from reacting to your method: Lay a thin layer of clear over the mold and let it cure before working on your design method. This prevents your mold from having any reaction to either the UV resin or the mica powders.

    In a pinch, if you don't have black bottles, wrap the bottle in foil. Would suggest doing that with the dark bottles also if leaving the resin in them for a while. Works a treat. We do this in the lab to protect photosensitive chemicals in the lab all the time 😀

    That is a bummer about the molds! After your last video I tried this with a little mold that is supposed to be a two-part picture frame from a S&T box a few years ago to try it out - I don't have a coaster mold that would work so this was a test - it did work but I don't see any marks left behind. Maybe because it is a matte surface? I was planning to try with a larger cutting board mold which is glossy...I'll let you know what happens! I love the purple to blue shift on the hearts - perfect combo!

    • @JBKonsCreations
      @JBKonsCreations  Год назад

      Oooh that's interesting. Maybe it can also be the quality of the silicone...🤔 I definitely want to try doing this technique with only epoxy. I'm hoping that the epoxy won't leave marks on the molds.

    Did you try wiping the molds after using them? The imprints may just be that oily residue that uv resin tends to leave behind

    • @JBKonsCreations
      @JBKonsCreations  Год назад +1

      There was that much mica powder on the sides like the other trays I made. Next time I make something with these molds Ill be sure to show that part but its pretty much the same. You have to carefully put resin on the rims and spread it evenly :)

  • @CicutaLupus

    I'm not sure what brand of UV resin that you use, but I know mine did not do that to my molds, so perhaps it has something to do with the brand of UV resin as well?

  • @pai009
    @pai009 Год назад

    I don't know if someone has said this, but why don't you try putting a thin layer of resin clear epoxy resin where you're going to do this technique. if you do this before you do the rim, you can just have the rim go up to where the dome is. I think this might save your molds from getting marked by the UV resin when you use it, because that clear layer of resin is being used as a barrier.

  • @ownsacat
    @ownsacat Год назад

    I wondered if the molds would be damaged from the water droplet effect. Could you put a thin layer of clear resin, either UV or slick first, and then do the water drop design, put mica on it and the dark resin? Would that work and keep the molds clear?

    • @JBKonsCreations
      @JBKonsCreations  Год назад

      Im not sure just because the mica needs something to grab to. I’ve been thinking about it a bit and I think a layer of resin before the drops may not work since resin is too glossy and the micas won’t stick to it if I dust it on. But I definitely would like to test it :)

  • @MileyonDisney
    @MileyonDisney Год назад +1

    Do you wash your molds with sudsy water and a washcloth? That MAY get rid of the marks on the molds. I always wash mine after each use, regardless. I put them in a sink full of soapy water (Dawn dish detergent) and wash them just like dishes.

    • @JBKonsCreations
      @JBKonsCreations  Год назад

      I can try that. I don’t wash my molds unless I really need to. Ive heard it degrades them…🤔 I normally use a piece of sticky tape to clean them.

  • @ConnieConnie824

    What if you paint on a thin layer of UV Resin over the whole thing and cure it.
    It might make the whole thing one cohesive shade again, instead of the marks being in it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Your not supposed to put UV resin directly on mold, destroys them, use it on top of epoxy resin.
