    I was born in '88. I wish I could've seen some of the great racing from the 80's.

      Born in 1969, it was great. I started watching around 1979. Unfortunately NASCAR, in my opinion, has changed for the worse. I haven't watched in over a decade. Darrell Waltrip and Davey Allison were my favorite drivers at the time of this race.

    @dodd702 Had Davey never died, I believe he would've been a champion; multiple times. R.I.P. to a great driver.

    gotta love it when the old man holds off the kid,just goes to show that the old man still has it after 25 or so years and that the kid is learning and maturing as a driver.too bad davey got killed in a helicopter of all things 4 years later.he was on his way to becoming NASCARS next bright star.davey you will truly be missed.and good job bobby,you drove a hell of a race.

    That turn 1 camera is in my opinion a CBS landmark. My favorite angle they ever used. That and the one right along the wall coming out of turn four.

    • @JimWhitakerMusic
      @JimWhitakerMusic 4 года назад

      Michael McIntyre CBS had such majestic camera work at the superspeedways!
      I love the two you mentioned, and also two more: The slow shot coming off turn two, where they start out zoomed in, and then slowly zoom out and pan left to watch the cars come off the turn two banking and start down the backstretch. The sound of the engines was always awesome in that shot!
      A great example of that shot was the last lap in ‘79, Ken talking about Cale and Donnie trying to bring it home, right before the backstretch shot when they wrecked each other.
      The other one was their infield side crane shot from the second half of the tri-oval. They were zoomed in and down on cars coming through the tri-oval, and then quickly zoomed out and left to follow the cars down the front stretch going into 1.

    I watched every second, and believe had it NOT been his dad in front of him,Davey would have won this race. I don't remember If Davey ever won the 500, but he wanted his dad to win this ONE !

    Oh gosh why can't you fans of NASCAR just stop bashing KB and just listen to the true significance of this race

    • @jonfranklinjones5526
      @jonfranklinjones5526 6 лет назад

      Douglas Kenney We bash KB bc, unlike most NASCAR drivers these days, he’s unprofessional, can’t keep his composure, and doesn’t leave racing & the incidents therein on the racetrack. What happens on the racetrack should stay on the racetracks. He takes a lot of racing incidents, some (if not most) of which are his fault and whines and complains about them for weeks. There’s a reason why Hendrick Motorsports cut him early on and why very few drivers respect him. We bash him bc he gives NASCAR a bad & unprofessional image. I hate KB. Always have. Always will. He’s a great driver. I give him that. But as a person, I don’t respect him at all. If I were in racing, he’s not a guy I’d want to associate myself with.

    Bristol should relinquisish its slogan and it should be applied only to this video. "Racin' the way it oughta be" I was 3 years old when this race was run. It's a shame I can't remember it. I truely believe 88 was the tail end of true racing. I love NASCAR today but what they do now just isn't the same anymore. I love those classic reruns

    oh yeah that and the angle they used usually at the finish of the race....aka like 98 99....you probably know what I mean. I wish CBS still did NASCAR nobody was better than Ken Squier

    I was born almost 3 years after this race in January 1991. I got to see a lot of the late 90's ESPN NASCAR but I missed out when both the production cars and NASCAR cars both used carburetors lmao (I believe 87 or 88 was the last year street cars used full-fledged carburation lol)

    Just think in 1988 car 12 won the Daytona 500. In 89 car 17 won the race. Now, flashfoward to 2008, car 12 wins. In 2009 car 17 wins. Weird, but cool.

    @cfoster81
    Mike Alexander (who was the BGN -- now Nationwide Series -- point leader) took over Bobby's car for the rest of the year after Pocono. Dick Trickle took over in 1989 after Alexander had a bad wreck in a race during the Cup offseason. I think Alexander ran at Daytona in '89, then Trickle took over from Rockingham on, and the car was re-numbered "84".

    I've always wondered if Bobby pulled up in turn 4 to play with davey and give him a shot to actually challenge him.

    Tuesdays at noon was awesome because of that, especially when they used to do like Daytona 500s every day before the Daytona 500 of that year.
    I wish they would show the Texas race from 1997.
