    I've been using the Rokinon 135mm F/2.0 ED UMC lens for astrophotography in the backyard for the past week or so, and I now see why it's such a popular camera lens in the community.
    My favorite aspect of the Rokinon 135mm F/2 is the mid-range focal length, which creates some incredible framing opportunities for large deep sky objects, or multiple targets at once.
    The focusing adjustment ring has great tension, which helps when using live-view on your DSLR camera to focus a star. For the best results, most amateur astrophotographers recommend shooting at F/4 with this lens.

      Love your videos. I have a Canon 700D(T5i), 135mm Rokinon F2 Lens, Astronomik 12nm ha Filter, all mounted on top of my Celestron AVX mount. I'm going to pick up a 600D (T3i) and was wondering the benifits of removing the IR Filter from the sensor..? This is entire reason i am getting a second camera(to modify it for astrophotograpy)..
      Are the results worth the effort...? i really hope so :)

    I've been super impressed with my copy of this lens. Just enough reach to capture detail but wide enough to give context, and sharper than it should be at its price point. It's a great astro lens.

    I guess this camera's sensor is astro mod? Would a "regular" sensor yield similar results? Which tracking mount did you use?
    Also, since full frame sensors are better at gathering light, wouldn't there be a benefit using a full frame camera for astrophotography ? Is there any equivalent filters for full frame camera? (If so, could your share description or link on these filters?)🦉📷🔭⭐☄

    Nice results! I looked at this lens as I already have the Samyang 12mm f2 & 8mm f2.8 for milky way shots, however the price put me off a little. I'm currently using a Zeiss Jena 135/3.5 Sonnar for that focal length with a focal reducer on Fuji, it's sharp and on a tracking mount the slower aperture doesn't matter too much.

  • @jpastroguy
    @jpastroguy 2 года назад +3

    I completely agree with that focal length versatility and imaging capability. I have had great success using the Askar FMA135 lens. It is also a good product for this focal length, and probably a lot cheaper too. Of course it is not suitable for anything larger than a crop sensor camera. You can see several 135mm image examples on my RUclips channel as well.

  • @DavidAlanReece
    @DavidAlanReece 4 года назад +1

    Just a quick comment regarding the lens hood comment you made. The lens hood generally is only useful when there is ambient light that can enter the lens from weird angles. Looking into a night sky, where there are no streetlights or other point lights near or in the frame, the hood really isn't needed. Therefore, for most astrophotography, the hood can be removed. By the way...loved the video about "why I do it". I hope everyone got the bigger message that your philosophy applies to anyone's hobby.

      Mylo put it in your Amazon wish list and they will notify you when it goes on sale again. Another trick I read on the internet is to put something you want in your Cart but don’t buy it in 2 or more sellers at the same time. Like Amazon, B&H, Adriana, etc. then 1 or more seeing that will offer you a better price to entice you to buy. Worth a try if you’re serious about buying it.

    Are these examples in the video from a crop sensor? It seems like crop sensors are actually more useful for a lot of astro targets. I have been thrilled with the Milky Way shots I have captured so far using the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 on my Canon 6D and now I am looking for a good lens that will take me to the next step in this hobby. I was thinking that 400mm might be a sweet spot? I guess it depends on the targets, which I am not all that familiar with yet. Anyone have any thoughts about taking the next step from wide angle nightscape astro shots to something more targeted? I have the Star Adventurer star tracker which seems capable of handling 300-400mm or more.

    Hi Trevor! How do you point to the correct region of the sky having a long lens like this? I'm currently getting my feet wet with a 18-200 zoom lens and take advantage of the wide end of the zoom to do a rough composition before zooming in. The issue is that is f/5.3 at the 200mm end so I was wondering how to manage this with a prime long lens.

    • @AstroBackyard
      @AstroBackyard  5 лет назад +2

      It can be tough in regions with no bright stars. It may take some trial and error - I use the Stellarium mobile app for a rough idea - and then take 10-second test images to frame things up. Targets like the Sadr region in Cygnus are dead simple because the Sadr star will show up in your live view display. You can frame it up in real time :)

    Today I bought a used one on Ebay Germany. At the moment I do not have a car and need something light. Will it mount on a modified Canon 1200D. 😉

    I was just looking at the Rokinon 135mm. I need replace my Mitake 135mm f1.8 that has a ton of aberration. Great image btw you just sold me on this lens.😁

    What filters do you use on your 14mm f2.8?

    Nice lens I use that fornax mount it's superb even with a heavy lens I have the Canon 7dmk2 with a canon 300mm f2.8LIS and if I get my polar alignment right I'm good for 420mm f4 and it's tack sharp no trails. With a wimberly it's easier not a ball head. Not thought about the Rokinon 135mm got the 14mm F2.8 was thinking about the Canon 200mm f2.8 but don't want to spend too much on Canon as I'm going Sony A9/A7mk4 soon with the 200-600mm keep at it man love your videos.

      The Fornax is a torque beast! I run a Bogen 3025 head on mine, which occasionally has the camera hanging several inches off to one side. Even with a heavy FD 200/2.8 and A7s, it drives the imbalanced load just fine.

    Great video and great results! Which light pollution filter were you using here and where are you at on the bortle scale?

      It's the Optolong L-Pro clip-in for Canon APS-C, and I think he's said on other videos he's around Bortle 6-7

    Hi. Could you change the 'line colour' in Stallarium so it is easier to see the frames. :)

    I ordered a telescope bundle from high point. They seem to be in denial that a customer could possibly get upset when they order an IN STOCK bundle to find that the only item actually in stock is the telescope. I'm waiting on two items still. Meanwhile high point is emailing me going "how we doing?"
    Rate our service and how about filling out a review? I uhhh ...
    Perplexed. I hear about how great they are. I'm waiting...

    You say full frame, what about for crop sensor? Is there a similar lens that performs as well for those of us without full frame cameras?

    I have a number of 135 lenses a Chinar 135 2.8 Pentax 135 3.5 M lens and the Takumar 135 3.5 m42 screw mount. I should try the Chinar lens for astrophotography
