I really like the look of this pen, and I really like the hands-on way their products are produced (as in finishing etc), but as I've said before $250 is a lot of money for a pen in any man's language or currency.
The pen is nice but there are plenty of CNC milled ballpoint pens out there for 1/3 to 1/2 that price. Urban Survival Gear and Karas Kustoms make great ballpoint pens. At $250, you could get into some decent fountain pens, possibly even gold nibs. Who knows though, Grimso has their fans so it might sell.
At 250 that’s a little much. But then again some pens go for that. Also based on how the secondary market for grimsmo stuff has been I’d have to say the market isn’t happy either. I think I’ll stick with my Hinderer investigator for a “fancy” pen. As a side note I’m surprised that they didn’t use Mont Blanc refills considering those seem to be the gold standard for the pen world
I’m waiting for the John Wick Tactical Pencil...lol! I am a lifelong pen clicker, so the mechanism looks pretty cool. P.S. Does it write upside down? The was the big thing in the 70’s....lol
The end is a complex contraption. There is another review out there that shows the difference in action between 2 of these. It is a nice design and end product, but I am still not impressed. In the end, a pen is only as good as its nib/writing end, and Grimsmo doesn't have anything to do with that. They're making a flash shell for a refill. Yes, the shell looks and works fine, but $250 fine? For a collector, yes. But for the average Joe, I dunno.
I love the engineering here - but that's about it. Aesthetically it does little for me. I've been doing the writing instrument thing for 45 years, so I'm a bit jaded. Obviously a fan piece, and fine if they plan to keep a limited number. So few outside of the community would "get" that clip though. The word is "stem", and congrats on only calling it a knife twice!
I think this will be similar to how they have done things in the past. They have trickled enough knives to create interest and build demand. Then they stop production on that specific product for a year or more, and prices on the secondary market go through the roof. By the time they release this pen it’ll cost $500 and it’ll be makers choice what you get. They have moved from ‘custom’ makers to full production with minimal hand work. It’s disappointing to see. They had a fair price when they started, now that it has doubled I don’t see how it’s a justifiable purchase.
Everything is worth what people are willing to pay. Cost is also relative. For some $250 is an hour's work, to others it is what they make in several days. A Rolex is less accurate than a Timex, and yet they are very expensive because they denote success and are an example of great human craftsmanship.
The thing is that nobody is going to buy the pen, because they want a pen to use.. nobody bought supreme brick because they wanted a brick, but because they wanted an expensive thing to own and feel good about it. So the price is alright, when one thinks about it more and more..
Michal Galovič I understand the price as a collector. But there are plenty of good collectin' pens for less money. It's not awful, but I don't know if it's worth it now.
I would pay $125 for this pen. I have lost every pen I have ever owned so I would not take a chance with a pen this expensive. I will pass even though I would love one.
You guys need to get a grip on it- 250 dollars for a pen is entry level for boutique pens. This is the luxury market- comparing it to a BIC is like comparing a Mercedes to a push bike 😂😂 Anyway- interesting review.
Logan's Dad I can but only in 1080p. I also like the set the 10min limit so I keep it concise. I really don't like 34 minute ramble videos. But I'll do the longer ones if I need to. I wanted to take the pen apart on the video and I knew that would take some extra time.

I think this didn’t age so well. Not only was $250 appropriate but the price has gone up and they sell out every time. Kind of a laughable opinion at this point.
The people that buy this pen are the same people who will pay two or three grand for one of their knives. There’s no value here, it’s just a thing some knife makers are doing the last few years.
I'm watching this video in April 2020 while we are on virus quarantine and the world economy is going downhill- so who is gonna pay 250.00 for something that does no more than a 50 cent Walmart. In fact that release mechanism would be irritating requiring changing your finger position to grasp the collar- a simple double click style is far more practical. Finally, when it falls out of your pocket or someone borrows it, not realizing it is not just another pen, you are out 250.00. Unless you are a billionaire and 250.00 is like 1 nickel to the rest of us, it is just another thing that you worry over getting lost or bent, sort of like having a Ferrari and never having a moments peace in a restaurant worrying if someone is going to put a door ding in it.
@@Jacksontorv PT Barnum, I believe, is quoted as saying "there is a fool born everyday." If you purchased one of these pens, but are not a wealthy person, or well on your way to being wealthy, I'd consider you foolish. Unless it is one of the very few items you have splurged on and it has great emotional value to you.
how about you measure in cm and gramms as well...?! inches and ounces....almost nobody in the world can make use of those number unless you are US American - just saying 🤷🏻♂️
Many of us are US American. I cannot stand when someone talks about their machining speeds in cm and mm. It is unfortunate that we live in a world with two measurement standards that offer no improvement on the other. 😁🤷
To the Op... because we're American, genius! you're on an *American* platform *RUclips* , listening to an American creator... how about stop being so dependent on the US, what's in style here, and all our technology... I'm willing to take a guess you're probably using your Apple phone as well while wearing Nike shoes, watching American movies and American company RUclips & facebook... Good try. Stop complaining and go find something in your own country then. Just saying...
To spend 250 for a stinking pen........ People need to get there head looked at......... They are robbing you without the gun........ It's just a joke period!!!!!!!!!!!
Not any different than spending a $250 knife IMO. Some people enjoy nicely made things and there’s nothing wrong with that. Same reason some people drive a Mercedes when a Kia can do the same job.
Hilarious how a knife reviewer says grimsmo haven't made their mark on the knife world and that pens should be what they should get into. Try making a knife big boy 😘 and then continue to critique other people's work.
LOL I said break the "knife" down anatomically!
I really like the look of this pen, and I really like the hands-on way their products are produced (as in finishing etc), but as I've said before $250 is a lot of money for a pen in any man's language or currency.
Doctor Frunkey ...lol..force of habit
Bro you said knife several times haha
Sean so many times 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
lol no worries. It made me giggle which is a good thing
Still waiting for the Spyderco pen, and wondering where they'll put the hole, ha ha!!
In the front...at the tip of the cap, obviously.
2 years later they sell new for $300 and don’t sit long once they hit the website. As of right now they’ve made at least 1264 of them.
Tbh 250 for a pen isn't any worse than 1k or more for a knife. It's just we're not interested in it.
Btw, secondary for these is now 600$+
Production with the fact that it is full Titanium, not to mention the level of quality makes it worth the $325 (Price went up)
Just found this video and this pen is actually mine now. Saga #10 ended up with me in Australia now.
Steven J congratulations

I love a Matthew Martin, I’ve been carrying mine everyday for 2 years now, doing everything..

Do you have Kilometrico pens in the US?

Pilot g2 is my go to pen as well. All I need
Sweet pen, but when I have people stealing my 30 cent BIC at work I find it hard to justify $250.
The Madmaxco bolt pen for $100 is a great pen.

Christian Taylor you nailed it 100%. This is their business model.
Are you selling the pen? If so i'm interested
Sorry it is sold.
Hi, I personally really like the pen - would you be interested in maybe selling it?

I’ll stick to my tibolts and Nottingham’s, thanks for the vid doc
Hello Doc., very cool pen and review!
I like high end things like the next guy but at 250 bones? I think this is a pass for me.
Thanks for sharing!

I paid 300$ for a full timascus pen last week, so it's overpriced. Again.
WE makes a pen that is a blast to fidget with for like 60 bucks all TI and has way more milling then this one.
I would pay $125 for this pen. I have lost every pen I have ever owned so I would not take a chance with a pen this expensive. I will pass even though I would love one.
The pen is mightier than the knife review.
You guys need to get a grip on it- 250 dollars for a pen is entry level for boutique pens. This is the luxury market- comparing it to a BIC is like comparing a Mercedes to a push bike 😂😂
Anyway- interesting review.
Josh as someone who does not use or collect these types of pens, comparing to a BIC is highly relevant.
I disagree Josh. A Mercedes can do a lot of things that a bicycle cannot do.
no non no not for 250 or even 125 . I use a cheap Bic at work and if it's lost or stolen , no worries .
Great to see you could go past 10 minutes!

Have no interest in the Knives but the uniqueness of how the pen works I think it’s worth the money.

Damn...250 bucks for it...I'd rather buy a Mont Blanc...at least its known for fanciness🤣😎
You can get a hinderer pen for 65 on Amazon
reminds me of a air hose fitting ..
That seemed a bit harsh.
I think this didn’t age so well. Not only was $250 appropriate but the price has gone up and they sell out every time. Kind of a laughable opinion at this point.

Lol you referred to the pen as a knife more than once. Habits. 😆
Jeremy Crowe like 4 or 5 times. Man that was funny!
But will it cut😉😂😂😂😆

October 2020 now - I still see these selling on the secondary for more than table price!
@@Jacksontorv I would like to see an example of that- can you show a link.

It's neat but the price is to high. There's many options for that price. I think there trying to pay for all there new fancy milling machinery.
.... if people will pay it, more power to them.
Most of the population will not pay those prices.
WHAT A JOKE 😂😂😂200.00 maybe 75.00 good sell job will not buy
Allen Jones that was my final conclusion there...not worth it.
It’s essential a Parker with a fancier exterior . No thanks
First!

Both of your views make sense guys. Depending on your perspective.
I wouldn't buy the knife or the pen. I have to work for my money. 😁

Why make one when you can go to a store and buy a really good one for a fraction of the cost of the ones that they sell, for example.
Also, I think he did say that they definitely did make their mark in the knife world.
