Very decent length trains to be steam hauled without assistance. Great variety of locations and a plenitude of whistles. Excellent capture at 15:40 with the effect of the setting sun. Wonderful night atmosphere at 17:15. Greetings from the UK, Bob K.
It’s what it was built for. Hauling heavy passenger trains through mountainous terrain while also being able to run at high speeds of 100 mph plus. Being built in 1950, 611 is the pinnacle evolution of steam technology in the United States.
The streamlined body shrouding really made the N&W J class a unique and very handsome class of 4-8-4 type locomotives, I am glad that the 611 still exists & operates in excursion service and this train had an impressive variety of coaches.
This is awesome. I saw it in Strasburg when I went to their train museum. I just put the video about it up on my channel. I was so excited to see it in Strasburg that I put it on my thumbnail for my video. Thanks for sharing.
What's cool is the old Pacific Northern Pulled that long train without any help from a diesel behind it. UP's 844 hasn't done that in a long time. 611 may be old, but she's still got some strength to show off.
611 is one fine looking art deco steam locomotive. It's great seeing a steam loco pulling a long consist without a diesel engine in the mix. A diesel just ruins the look of a train from a bygone era. 😏
@@DynamoProductions-trains ok thank you I just wish it would come back to Asheville NC again I miss it in 2016 when she came around with two southern diesels
One of the most beautiful engines ever made. Will be blowing her whistle with my family at Strasburg this fall.
611 is a beautiful Engine Without a doubt! Great video!

Great video. 611 is my third favourite steam locomotive of America.
Do I deserve to be in the San Juan Branch Line community?
@blackkey1976 one is 3985 and two is 4449. Of course, I've never seen any of them since I live in Australia.
Glad you enjoyed

*Long Live the Queen of steam!*
Agreed
Awesome!

I hope that someday 611 will meet 4014. The queen of the rails meeting the king. That would be a sight to behold.
How about 1218 meeting 4014. Now that would be a site to see.

The 611 is the last streamlining locomotive in history
There's three more in the United States, SP 4449, SP 4460, and C&O 490.
Shot between 2015 and 2017, before and after the end of 21st Century Steam.
Correct
What kind of whistle she has now it not like the 1990's type of whistle
It’s still a Hancock 3 chime, just off a different N&W J.

Is any of this recent trips?, great footage!
These are the Petersburg trips from 2015 and 2017.
The N&W 611 is currently at the NC Transportation Museum (NCTM) In Spencer NC
I hate that they combine different cars from different trains it doesnt look well
Reminds me of NYC's Train of Many Colours!
I have the Lionel model, but I wanna see the real deal ❤️
I was on those excursions
NS 47
@blackkey1976 I dont have any & I worked it lol
@blackkey1976 oh yeah
Had she had a back/helper engine (diesel) ?
Not on these trips
Will she go least 20 mph at Strasburg?
Most likely yes
When was this video recorded
Majority of shots from 2017, a few from 2015
