All the newer computerizes components of the chassis and running gear that would be next to impossible to retrofit to the older underpinnings, and the suspension geometry. You could do just the engine, but then you'd end up with something not so great to drive because the rest of the setup of the old car wasn't made to handle the engine's power.
I'm building a similar project with an E55 M113 V8, using all the original chassis, I can still use traction control, yaw sensor, ABS, CAN comms, I've even been able to keep the aircon and dash :) It really does keep things simple
