You see, the Titanic was an Icebreaker; a ship specifically designed to be able to ram into icebergs and break through- if hit head-on (think of it like a chisel on the front of the ship). However, the person piloting the Titanic freaked out and tried turning them away too late, which resulted in the iceberg scraping along the ship's side; something it failed to withstand. Of course, as with many ships, the Titanic's hull was partitioned so that part of the hull could be flooded without flooding the entire thing, which is a measure to prevent flooding from being immediately fatal. However, when the Titanic scraped against the iceberg, numerous partitions along Titanic's side were ruptured, which caused too much flooding for her to handle. Hence, her sinking.

I do not know about it. The destroyer collided with ice, but it did not matter, I thought it had more armor than the fleet.
