And what a glorious time it was in 1985 to be 18 and discovering Lou - I turned 19 that year and was a new devotee also - I have this CD 💿 somewhere 🎸 🎶 😎.
New Sensations rarely gets mentioned as a top album on forums, best album lists etc .Certainly not like Berlin New York Transformer ' The Blue Mask ETC
A beautiful song about one of the true gifts of life: artistic freedom! Lou's sheer joy here is a pleasure to listen to. I come back again and again to this wonderful song. And of course, to Sam and Marty too.
Great song! Dont understand the obsession with underated though. My personal favourite Lou Reed album is 'Set the Twilight Reeling' which I've never seen get a mention as one of his best. The much derided Rock and Roll Heart has a couple of high spots too. Of course New York/ Transformer/ Berlin/The Blue Mask are deservedly praised but what does it matter how any of them are rated? They are all out there to be discovered, explored and enjoyed. If you relisten something new might strike you and change the ranking anyway! Lou left a great legacy!
when i lived in vegas in1986 i used to cruse around in my car and listen to this tune and others by lou... sad thing was my mom was dying and this song reminds me that if i wanted something i called mom, apartment what ever it was there... bob $$$$$$
I bought this and Rock N’ Roll Heart long ago when I moved out. New Sensations is really amazing; especially when you compare it some of the not-so-great Lou Reed albums from the same decade.
For the most part you have to be in your late 50s or older to be aware of this song. That or be a devotee of Lou’s entire breadth of work. I’m chuffed that I still understand that the Sam of “Sam’s play” in this song is actor/playwright Sam Sheppard… 🎸🎶 🖊️ 📝 🎭🥰.
Oh! And Martin (Marty) Scorsese gets a mention in the song also (missed that reference)….”he talks about seeing Sam Sheppard’s play, ‘Fool For Love’, which had just opened off-Broadway (and which he refers to throughout the song as “True Love,” probably because it scanned better. Doin’ the things that he wants to 🎸🎶😎).”
@@julietsilver2033 i think that he is refering to a character of Mean Streets (1973) played by Robert De Niro, named Johnny Boy, cause in the other line he says "Travis Bickle" , other character of a movie played by De Niro, named Taxi Driver (1976)

Being 18 right out of high school Lou Reed is the reason I picked up a guitar. Lou is my guardian angel.
No kidding ? That's epic man. Yeap, Lou hits the spot for sure.

one of the highlights on a really underrated album that showcases Lou Reeds melodic gifts not just lyrical
man your right.....lou fan for 10+ years before I ever ventured into this album.
What makes you believe it's underrated?

Totally agree dude. Good call..
Hmm.... interesting but nothing Lou did was underrated old scout
Only Lou Reed could put a word like 'brilliant' into a song
and make it sound.....brilliant. You were the most under-rated
musician of all time man.
Yep,I'm a huge Lou Reed fan,R.I.P, LOU.
THE MIGHTY LOU REED IS THE BEST
Here we go again, stop the under-rated syndrome

Bob Dylan once said he'd wished he had written this song as it was so good!
sounds good.. you could not take the time to write "nobody"?
I care. Piece of shit.
Bob knew great music when he heard it.....nuff said.
That guy has so much money . He could do great things for the world, but he doesn't. He's no philanthropist he's a hypocrite
Dylan never said that.
I just cry listening to this Masterpiece
The late great Robert Quine on guitar.
Brilliant song. Brilliant Artist. RIP Lou.
Absolutely beautiful, New Sensations is a realy underestimated album, RIP Lou.
Eprocto Boy Totally!
Glad I have seen him live, and got him to autograph this LP.
Yes,I totally agree, every song on the album was/is excellent!

These days it's my favourite LR record. It changes sometimes, but it's definitely in my top 5 list from the discography

Gran canción maestro Lou Reed 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎸🎸🎸
Una de las canciones que a bob Dylan le hubiera gustado escribir, y de las más bellas del poeta Reed, allí donde quiera que esté.
Greatest Rock Music, what Else there is to say .Move me at my fucked Up Weekend. Thanks Lou Reed where ever you are.

My father had a tape with several songs of Lou Reed.. three times the same in a row! This is maybe the best one.. still love it.
a sad song kind of.... they got very physical... bob
No words, this is so good.
Lous music had a very different energy on stage than what is represented in his studio work.
Some people think. Some people don't it's a simple equation. Here's to Johnny boy.

The Best song of the album ( and i love My friend George for strange personal reasons ; )
Mmm, the classic Wico Joystick
Great
I heard this song was written about Sam Shepard and Martin Scorsese?
Absolutely, kind of a tribute to artists in new York in the 70's which they all lived through
It was and is! Sam shepard lived a beautiful life. He was intertwined in everything.

Guys a cowboy from some ROW DAY OOW,..🎮
When they finished fighting, they exited the stage.
Fernando Saunders' fretless bass,
L. Shankar's classical Indian violin...
Does it get any better than that?
Robert Quine.
it strikes me that paradise city by G N 'R " used " the guitar from this

The great L. Shankar.
