hi friends! if you're watching this in real time, i'm going to take next week off from posting and am going to go live on youtube instead! lmk if Saturday Oct 7th at 3pm ET sounds good so we can all hang out :) Virtual housewarming will be happening in November some time! ❤
Faaabbb ! Oooh goood .. as much as I love yer vids , I WAS gonna ask you if you thought it was time for a break from filming / editing. You are still settling in, need rest , need to train, get out in the gorgeous NY autumn, see friends, & chill !
Yeah I think it's called crown molding and it's like the original the original apartment they just like painted it but they did a banger job of it like seriously so you have those like doors with that little like what's it called I forgot what they call that thing my grandmother called it something like that window on top that's all original from the 1940s
I now understand why I enjoy your videos so much. Its comforting knowing that there is someone on the other side of the world going through the exact same things Im going through and its a universal experience at this stage in life. (Turning 32 next week, moved house by myself last week, trying to set up my house and literally waiting here for my washing machine to be delivered). We aren't weird and it's normal *exhale*
I moved 6 times.. And what I learned is, if you can clean your new kitchen and carry the kitchen before the actual moving day, it makes life sooooo much easier the following weeks. It is so overwhelming when all the rooms are a mess and the kitchen is a mess.. Just set up your kitchen first.. Have your teas, have your comforting soups, everything.. It keeps you sane.
Chelsea.....crown molding and Wainscoting. You have them both. Beautiful Apartment. You need some area rugs, big pictures, beautiful coffee table, throw rugs, cool lamps, nice bowls, big candles, It would look fabulous.
Love the washer - tip: it’s a good idea to keep the lid slightly ajar when not in use to allow for air flow and avoid mold growing inside. No one told my sister this and all her clothes smelled bad and she could not get rid of the bad smell - she had to replace her washer:( - just passing this along. Good luck on your new place , it looks really 😎!!!
As someone that also struggles with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed sometimes, thank you for sharing your own struggles. In a strange way it is comforting to know I am not alone in this.
For what it’s worth, the living room looked immaculate at the end. You got this 👍 that spare will take shape hopefully soon. The washer was also a big win. Don’t lose sight of these wins
The feelings of displacement and missing your old place is so normal and relatable. It will pass with baby steps settling in like you did in this vlog. I have moved 4 times in 5 years so I know exactly how exhausting it can be. I also can relate to the birthday feelings. Your new place is so much roomier. Happy birthday!
As a fellow 20-Something Virgo with who was clinically diagnosed with OCD. Perfection is ingrained in my soul. I feel like most virgos are obsessed with perfection and this need to have everything the way we want it. So to have to embrace discomfort, oddness and unfamiliarity is a tough thing to do let alone be content with. It’s hard to embrace that things are different now, that the place you used to live in is gone. But it’s a beautiful thing to be able to be able to start fresh, re-structure your life in a new environment while finding new little things to perfect and find joy in. Enjoy it!
Hi Chelsea I’m new to your channel. I’ve moved ALOT. The way that has always helped me.. move all boxes in an empty room. Put all furniture where you’d like it. Close the door to the room with the boxes. Once a week open the door.. grab a box and unpack it. Do this till the room is empty. It takes a while but you won’t fell so overwhelmed . Good luck with this journey. 😊
Bringing a plant back to life is definitely a great start to a new apartment. Doing laundry in your own place is perfect...You got this Chelsea….you can do it!! Yayyy!! Happy Birthday 🎉🎂🎈💓
Transitions are really hard. You feel sad about leaving behind the old but also excited about the new. Just because something isn't working for you anymore doesn't mean you can't be happy about the times when it did. Congrats on the move and good luck with all the unpacking ❤ Signed, someone who's recently gone through a lot of change as well
For your washer and dryer you should build a cart on wheels, with drawers on bottom to store laundry supplies and one side could have a shelf to hold the cute dryer and laundry basket under it, top counter could be able to flip up for easy loading plus provide extra counter space when not in use, put a curtain across the front to hide stuff if u like, and it can also be wheeled around when u need more room or what not. Yup … I’m bored LOL
I watch The Office when I need comfort. I laugh and feel better. You'll get there. I'm overwhelmed by my house. It's super cluttered and way overwhelming. I'll get there and so will you. Sending love 💕 Peace 🕊️
Decorating ideas: Put the table in the middle of the room & the couch at the back of the wall with some side tables & cozy lamps to brighten up the living room. I'd get an area rug for the living room......... lots of low, cozy lighting will make that room feel so happy & good for you. : ). : )
I am glad to know you share the moments when you are overwhelmed with your environment. Me, too. I can barely stand too many text messages. Have a great weekend.
As a New Zealander living in France where doing laundry like an American is just NOT a thing, it’s was adorable watching your fascination trying to put together a clothes dryer and watch your washing haha ! I had a similar « what the hell?! » moment when in San Francisco and had a hell of a time understanding using the building laundry and didn’t even want to touch the dryer for fear it would shrink my clothes 😅 Funny, the cultural differences we take for granted haha Happy Birthday dude, you got this :)
tackle your kitchen first, take a week to do that, then your work space, same. and keep going. One space at a time. Then when those rooms are complete, organize the space that became storage. With the other spaces put together, you can start to see where the things that are in that room can now go...
100% agree about not having any expectations for your birthday making them better. I just turned 31 and these days I prefer to spend my birthdays alone, this year I went mushroom picking and the forest was magical! ✨ Happy Birthday! 🥳
The small tasks thing is great when you feel overwhelmed. I get overwhelmed too esp with moving. My cupboards are still a mess from moving in may! My husband once told me “how do you eat an elephant? Piece by piece”. I always repeat that when the overwhelm threatens to calm myself and then pick a small task and crack on!
When I moved into my house, I did it by myself. After moving, it will look like a disaster area if you're doing it by yourself. One step at a time is the way to go. Happy birthday! 🙂
Same girl there has only been maybe 2 birthdays of my twenties so far that I haven’t cried for some reason. I’m 27. So now I never make plans for it and have zero expectations and I just do little things that I know make me happy.
I feel your struggle so much. I've just moved to my 14th apartment within the last 5 years. Every time it gets duller as I feel somehow my mind got numbed by this repetitive action, and at the same time it still takes a huge toll on my mental energy
wow i just discovered your channel. most of the living alone in NYC videos show fancy apartments and fancy shopping hauls. ngl i do enjoy them, but seeing your videos of struggles people could relate to is refreshing. we’re almost the same age so i love that! hi from maldives! 🇲🇻
I moved out of my comfort zone, too. You need to think of a plan for storage. A bureau or maybe baskets to clear up your clutter. One area at a time. Then the kitty 😺 love mine.
Crazy to see how parallel our story was! I moved to a new home early in September, bought a friggin washer too (yas!), took forever to unpack, got myself a similar panic attack room, had a 32nd birthday in my new home between all the boxes lol
It's obviously overwhelming at times juggling all this in between demanding work / professional life! But hey -- Pressure is a privilege, ey! September babies we different animals lol
Little tip, add some electrical tape to the jaws of your adjustable pliers. It'll keep the teeth on the jaws from gouging and flaking off the chrome of your aerator ring. Do this for anything you don't want damaged as the teeth on tools are designed to grip extremely well and will mar anything nice. I've learned this the hard way. More than once 😂
Unpacking, plumbing, constructing stuff and a birthday! It's all a bit much and I would feel the same. You are making so much progress though so hang in there Girl and you will soon feel settled and right at home. Happy belated birthday 🎈
You are so relatable! I boarded a train out west when I was 18 and moved 1,150 miles away. I moved 18 times in 18 years in five different states, easily transferring from bank to bank. Hated living in Hawaii the most; once shared a $60 one-bedroom appt. in Montana with 2 others and one morning while dressing for work, the whole bedroom ceiling fell down on me! The building was over 100 yrs. old and the ceiling had been papered and then painted many times. 😂 Many times living alone I would get depressed and ended up calling a suicide hotline. After 45 happy years with my husband (married 38) he suddenly passed away 2 weeks before COVID lockdown. I’ve lived in my wonderful home for 40 yrs. and am content to be alone. My late husband was the man of my dreams and I have no desire for another relationship. No regrets whatsoever and I have been blessed with a long, healthy life, a beautiful son, d-I-l and granddaughter and plan on living another 25 years! 🤣 I just love watching young people navigate the world just as I did on my own. You will never regret it. I’ve been to Asia, Europe at least 15 times, Britain and Canada. Enjoy every minute you have on this earth! ❤🎉
My portable washing machine loved to travel and I had to create a set up with a totally not stolen orange home depot basket and some 2x4s to keep it in place so it didn't wander while washing lmao. I love how much light your new place has!!
Happy birthday Chelsea! I moved to a new city about 4 weeks ago, and it’s been really hard to feel peaceful and at home. Thank you for showing the real struggles of moving into a new place! I appreciate you.
Being such a big city I’m sure they have companies that help people organize & set up their apartments if you can afford it. Having someone help & get it completely done will help you keep with the upkeep. Just a suggestion.
Hang in there, Chelsea. You've been sick and that can affect your motivation a lot. Hopefully now since you've gotten the washer working and some of your things put away, you'll start feeling excited about your new spacious apartment. I love it and can't wait to see how you decorate the place. 🙂
congrats on demystifying the washer. and the molding is amazing. classic nyc. love the separation of office and bedroom as well. can't wait to see you put your stamp on it
Here's an idea for you...if you get a spray bottle and put a bit of fabric softener in it you can spray wrinkles in your clothes, shake them out and they will be wrinkle free. How much softener depends on how big your bottle is. For a 32oz. bottle I use 3/4 a cap full. It might be helpful if you don't have a dryer.😊
Im 60…love watching you. I was you 30 years ago but in Sydney Australia. Had exactly the same problems with the washer as you are having in New York. Thank you for the sweet reminder of my youth. Happy Birthday ! It only gets better I promise ❤️
Chelsea you have become one of my fave girls to hang out with, you are very real and chill. I feel your struggles and want to give you a big hug when you’re not feeling so great, know that somewhere out here someone is ! ❤
I don't know if they're available in the US but you can get heated clothes drying racks (we call it a clothes horse here!). It's the same vibe as yours but you plug it in and the bars heat up. Dries the clothes a lot quicker!
I’m proud of you, you’re doing great and yes moving can definitely bring on feelings of uncertainty because of the changes! That’s normal❤️ and what I watch when anxious, YOU, YOUR channel, and a couple others, THANK YOU 🥰🥰
my comfort show is schitts creek - me and my girlfriend cried when we moved into our new flat…tears of grief for our previous place…but we decorated it in our personality and made it cosy and now it’s home x
Happy Belated Birthday Chelsea!! I hope you're managing to stay dry during this deluge - who knew NYC had a monsoon season?? 💦🌊 And it's perfectly natural to feel overwhelmed on your birthday - that's the day (and New Year's) where one can't help but evaluate one's life and take appraisal. Coupled with the move and still getting settled, it's totally natural. During those times I think it's okay to "numb" (or distract) oneself a little bit - just as a way to manage it, if your body is telling you it needs to hit pause. Your plant coming back to life is a great sign though on your birthday🌱- things are looking up and I have no doubt will only get better!
For my birthday this year I went to a coffee shop here in the UES to work, then went to have lunch by myself, then went to NYSC to sign up and started my first day at the gym. I had an amazing birthday just by myself in this amazing city! I completely understand! I turned 34 and I feel like during my 20's I would put so much pressure on me and others to have a good birthday, and it was THE WORST. I can say without a doubt this was one of the best and more peaceful birthdays. Anyways, Happy belated birthday Chelsea!!
I’m a Swede living in Sweden and every time I have to loosen or fasten a screw I say ‘ righty righty lefty loosey’ 🤣😂 I’ve done that for years! Must have heard it on tv 🤣😂 And happy birthday!!! 😘😘😘 Don’t worry about all the boxes! Give yourself some time! ❤️
Happy belated birthday Chelsea. My fall comfort tv show at the moment is friends. I just put it on in the background while doing house cleaning. Love your new apartment ❤
It’s totally understandable you slightly pine your old familiar space and feel frazzled. Moving is so stressful. But after a month or two you’ll love it and feel very settled in. You just need to make the space your own. You’ll get there!
Yeah! I’ve never been so excited to watch a washing machine runs! 😉👌🏻 You do great and… did I heard cat? Oh! Great idea! Life is always sweeter with a furry ball of joy! 🐱❤🐱
Happy birthday 🎉. Cry as much as you want, let it out. Greatest “long term”stressors in no particular order, getting divorce, new job, wedding planning, moving, new baby. You’re doing great. 😊
I can feel your overwelm through my screen. Take a few weeks off and REST. We will be waiting for you ❤❤❤ I hope you find your ground in the new (lovely) place. Happy birthday! Greetings from Belgium - ps : I will loose my shit if you get a cat 😂😂😂
Crying is a good thing to do even if you have no idea why you are crying. Sometimes it is a waste of energy to try analysing why you are crying, just enjoy it and the peace it brings.
My favorite rewatches, of which I've done multiples of: The last man on earth, the good place, grey's anatomy, the americans, girls. I resonated a lot with you saying "I need something I've already watched", I do that all the time.
Hi Chelsea, I have recently followed you, because I adore your naturalness and your spontaneity. You are simple and really charming. When I've seen you cry, I almost cry. Two days ago, I finally got a new house, bigger and with better conditions. I understand you so much at the moment of realizing everything that has cost you and everything that is being achieved. You cry out of frustration, helplessness, happiness at the same time, even if your shoulders are tired, you keep going. And it's going to happen to me like you, it's going to be my turn to do it myself. Even transport everything with a simple shopping cart. But it will be worth it. You are awesome! I send you a hug from Spain.🤗 And happy birthday! 🥰
Hi Chelsea, found your videos last week and i have to admit i binged all of them already omg🫠 you have such a great personality and editing style, I’m cracking up all the time. I love NYC (actually I was an au pair in New Jersey after high school, and every weekend took a train to NYC and romantized my life hehe) so it’s so nice to see the city too even though I have no dreams of moving there (well, would love to for a year or so). Anyway, thanks for making these videos, they are so much fun!
I remember when I bought my first house. I was so happy. But within a few weeks I was feeling depressed. Then a friend told me change can be stressful even when it is a good change. That really helped me!
Be careful with the drain hose mine jumped out of the sink and I flooded my bathroom and it went through the downstairs neighbors ceiling and everything. I then used pipe cleaners to connect the hose to the faucet so it was held onto the sink by something.
Chelsea, I didn't realize you could get more relatable than you already were! My birthday was yesterday, and I was thinking that maybe I was being weird for not enjoying my most recent birthdays than when I was a kid. I mean, I am onky 21. Why the heck am I crying? Thanks, and happy belated birthday!!!
As for the noise for the downstairs neighbors… if fine in the day hours. Plus you have to get set up. They will be fine. Note* spin twice when you are air drying. It helps.
I feel broken sometimes too, but I must be strong and to get through all the problems. Actually you are right that to do smaller things helps to concentrate on them, and you feel better. Recently I've watched Succession. I'm in love with it 😍
Fall comfort tv show is such a bizzare one and I know it hasn’t aged amazing but Seinfeld is short and sweet and good background noise. Also I relate so much to this video it was just my birthday and I was so stressed and felt like if I just kept being stressed and working that I could avoid all the other emotions I didn’t want to deal with. But unfortunately to feel is to be human :/
Just a tip! Put a sock at the end of the washer outlet hose. Tie it with a hair tie or something. It will work as a lint catcher so you don’t have sink issues. 😅 I had the same washer
Happy Birthday 🎉 As an old retired lady, may I make a suggestion? Take 5 minutes everyday (good days or bad) take a deep breath, exhale, look around and be present. Then grab your blank journal and write a couple of sentences about your day, if you were mad, sad, happy, sleepy or hopefully content. It helps slow down time a bit and it is wonderful to review years later.
Moving to a new place can be very overwhelming. Your new home doesn't feel like "home" for a little while, and there's always so much more to do than you first realize. You're getting there, though!
I have a washing machine that works the same way. Each step in slow that it makes you think it stopped working. Once you do wash a few times you'll feel confident that it's working. As you said, trust the process. 👍🏼
Glad your settling in - top tip - get a few ceramic parcel openers in the flat easy to open any packaging without using a knife - the amount of times I have cut myself when trying to do things at speed - especially when you have lotsa stuff to open in a new flat % .
Just clean one small corner at a time. Once the kitchen is clean prioritize keeping it the one place that is always clean. If your kitchen is clean you can functiion with less stress. Then you’ll get there.
happy happy birthday! as a fellow 32-yr old who also lives alone in NYC, i love watching your videos to see the real side of being a renter (it's not all glamorous in high rise buildings like most influencers show lol)
I was feeling suuuuuper anxious today, overwhelmed with work + other commitments but after watching this vlog, feel calmer and happier knowing there are other people feeling this way as well 😊 thanks for being a online-struggle buddy 😂 so glad this was recommended to me! Thanks RUclips algorithm
6.5 months ago I had to move out of my very first apartment living alone and for 2yrs too. I had so much anxiety that first month that I had a medical issue that caused me to miss work and also had to move apartment units because my upstairs neighbor was a monster and then my new apt unit had a huge plumbing issue. I've been in this new unit with no issues (sort of) and am really settling in, just in time to potentially move again in March 2024 when my lease is up. Apartment living, or maybe just not having a solid space for 5yrs+ is literally killing me, and that's no exaggeration. I feel your pain on the struggle bus. You're doing so well though and I'm super proud of you. You ran into a problem, asked for help, and figured it out on your own! 💜
Could you get a dehumidifier? I live in Cornwall and having one in winter is great as it has a laundry mode which drys our clothes really quickly avoiding mould.
I had a similar portable washer for years when I lived in SF. One good tip is the run the spin cycle twice.... gets more water out before you hang the clothes up. I would hang them by hanger on my shower rod and they'd easily dry overnight.
hi friends! if you're watching this in real time, i'm going to take next week off from posting and am going to go live on youtube instead! lmk if Saturday Oct 7th at 3pm ET sounds good so we can all hang out :) Virtual housewarming will be happening in November some time! ❤
Woo hoo! Works for even me here in Oahu! 9am .Excellent. 😊

I second this! ❤

Being able to laundry in your home is priceless. I used a drying rack when I lived in the UK and the clothes came out fine. Happy Birthday!!!
🌸🌈⭐
Plus hang drying your clothes actually makes them last longer! The dryer is pretty rough on clothes 😊
I used a drying rack in South Korea, it works well
Plus!! Your clothes are not gonna shrink
As someone that also struggles with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed sometimes, thank you for sharing your own struggles. In a strange way it is comforting to know I am not alone in this.
I'm 49 and love your channel! Reminds me of when I was younger. I'm so proud of you!! You got this! ❤

Yes when I feel overwhelmed I say to myself “baby steps” some projects don’t have to be done in a day! You’ll feel more at home as time goes on! 🥰🤗💗🌷
I re-watch Seinfeld and SATC when I'm feeling super low or anxious (which is often!). I really like your vlogs, I find the realness comforting 🥰
congrats on demystifying the washer. and the molding is amazing. classic nyc. love the separation of office and bedroom as well. can't wait to see you put your stamp on it
Here's an idea for you...if you get a spray bottle and put a bit of fabric softener in it you can spray wrinkles in your clothes, shake them out and they will be wrinkle free.
How much softener depends on how big your bottle is.
For a 32oz. bottle I use 3/4 a cap full.
It might be helpful if you don't have a dryer.😊
As someone who is a whole ass decade older than you ... I gotta say, you're killing it! Happy belated b'day, Chelsea.
same
Im 60…love watching you.
Dries the clothes a lot quicker!
oooooh this wold be awesome!!
Happy birthday! I love that your Phoebe plant came back to life again. Its a sign that you are growing, too! ❤
this is a lovely thought 💘
I’m a Swede living in Sweden and every time I have to loosen or fasten a screw I say ‘ righty righty lefty loosey’ 🤣😂 I’ve done that for years! Must have heard it on tv 🤣😂
And happy birthday!!! 😘😘😘 Don’t worry about all the boxes! Give yourself some time! ❤️
Happy belated birthday Chelsea. My fall comfort tv show at the moment is friends. I just put it on in the background while doing house cleaning. Love your new apartment ❤
Happy birthday Chelsea!!! Hope you had a wonderful day!!
It’s totally understandable you slightly pine your old familiar space and feel frazzled. Moving is so stressful. But after a month or two you’ll love it and feel very settled in. You just need to make the space your own. You’ll get there!
Happy belated birthday 🎊 😊
My sister’s birthday is also 09/21 and she is free spirited and independent like you. And I love that EW&F song, it’s such a mood booster!
Happy birthday ❤🎉🎉🎉 and congrats on the new place !!
Okay , the black hook on the cap is the cutest thing ever.
Sings "Do you rememba The 21st nigghhht of Septemba.."😅 🎉happy birthday🎂
My boyfriend and I love your content! Also recently moved so we feel your struggles. Keep hanging in there!
Yay, you're doing well! Emotions indeed are good to feel!
My favorite rewatches, of which I've done multiples of: The last man on earth, the good place, grey's anatomy, the americans, girls. I resonated a lot with you saying "I need something I've already watched", I do that all the time.
They make a washer that is also a dryer. I used one when I lived in the UK and have one in my Montana 5th wheel.
thank you so much for this. congratulations on your new beginning ❤ you got this!! big hug right back to you.
It helps.
Parks and Recs or Scrubs reruns are my total comfort, sending love
Luv the idea f putting vase f flowers n timber box! See we learn from u!!
ahaha yay! it's my old kitchen utensil holder too - happy it worked!
It sure did
Btw, I just love these white walls, it just looks so refreshing.
GILMORE GIRLS BABY full autumn-winter vibes 🥰
❤❤❤❤😊
THAT TITANIC CLIP! LOL! I live for your edits.
Glad your settling in - top tip - get a few ceramic parcel openers in the flat easy to open any packaging without using a knife - the amount of times I have cut myself when trying to do things at speed - especially when you have lotsa stuff to open in a new flat %
.
Just clean one small corner at a time. Once the kitchen is clean prioritize keeping it the one place that is always clean. If your kitchen is clean you can functiion with less stress. Then you’ll get there.
Omg thought I was the only one. I cried on my birthday from ages 26-29. Very rough years for me. I heard it’s gets better as you get older.
happy happy birthday! as a fellow 32-yr old who also lives alone in NYC, i love watching your videos to see the real side of being a renter (it's not all glamorous in high rise buildings like most influencers show lol)
omg! you've been through so much. I hope things get easier for you so that you can settle and really make a home ❤
I’m glad you are so real with your feelings. ♥️♥️. Just breathe
