one of my peeves is how many RUclipsrs do set-up shots. As in, they open the mail box, put the camera in. Close the mail box. Open the mail box so they have a shot of them opening the mailbox... Or... drive up, get out of the car, place the camera, get back in the car, back out, drive back in again so they have a shot of "pulling up in the car"... knowing how much time they're having to put into all of that just takes me out of it.

@@MarkLewisfitness Amen to that Mark. Casey gets away with it because he's so good, anyone else is just a no. On another note I'm happy to discover I'm not the only one who suffers from the "spend the maximum possible on your latest hobby" afffliction. Been stung a few times with that one!

Never get tired of the duck pond podium cut! Love it and glad we have another “behind the scenes” video of the life of Mark Lewis - RUclipsr! Hope you never get tired of that title and I trust your son gets his cut given that crushing his likes and views set you on this amazing journey. At the very least I expect you’re rubbing his nose in it that you’ve got more views than him. 😂🎉

Always find your videos really well produced and edited. I think it is credit to you that I find myself focusing on the content rather than the quality of the recording. 👍
Not gonna lie Mark, my favourite part was Nixon demonstrating the treadmill. But with that said, I like the set up a lot. You’ve cracked the RUclips code with all this kit. I know the hardest part is definitely the first 10k. But as someone who’s been subscribed from around 7k, I could see you were already on the right path. So to hit 150k a year on is a fantastic achievement, but with your set up and good looks, was inevitable 😂
I'll be honest, this is a great video. Love the way you connected the Duck Pond award to the Duck Pond video clip. Really good insight into maximising your space. Looking forward to seeing the Zwift set up in the upstairs room 😎

Switching to a teleprompter was the best thing for us. Saves lots of annoying retakes, speeds up editing time, and cuts down on storage costs. The art is making it look like you’re not reading from it, which you do well.

In one of your videos you said you wished you had started filming your progress earlier. Having not long turned 40 being 6’5 and being “tubby” I’m thinking of doing just that. Thank you for the inspiration.
Let's start a game. We drink a protein shake and do 5 pushups whenever we either see the "duck pond trophy clip" or the "Mark falling off his bycicle in his garage clip". :)
Very informative and fun. Having that pack of chocolate biscuits so close by must be tough sometimes.
We also love The West Wing. Have watched all 7 seasons 6 or 7 times, and we actually did name our first child Joshua after Josh Lyman 😂

Awesome vid today Mark. Love the use of your setup. Do you cut and paste the audio in your H1N during the edit or is it already synced to the video file? That said, all my shows are now 1 take.... no script and makes for some very focused moments..
I go old school - I use a clapper board at the beginning, and then sync the zoom audio to the video in FCPx. No matter what alternatives I have tried, I never get such consistent audio any other way.

script/teleprompt process is precisely what we use in professional sales presentations - write it down, read it out, edit and repeat until it's refined.

@@brianpurcell9058 Love Nixon! Cycling youtuber Phil Gaimon posted a video the other day that was about 10 minutes of the video from a GoPro strapped to his dog Creature that he called CreatureCam. He thought nobody would want to watch it, but we did. Pretty shaky, but fun to get a dog's view of a trail run.
Watched 11 minutes to see a dog using the treadmill.... (best bit !🤪)

I’m curious about your experience using the xoom audio and merging that with video. Is that more of a pain than doing audio into a video program or better because it’s a better audio recorder?

Loupedeck You need to set aside a couple of hours to learn how to use it but once you have done that video editing literally is 90% faster.

One of the things I love about RUclips is the "amature" style it gives normal people with ideas the chance to Create something and get it out in the world. With out some annoying studio that have to produce it.. First example that comes to mind is JackAss I loved them until they got a producer, and for me it lost the Charm.. When you have Stoopid people doing stupid stuff with a pro film and edit team behind them just feels wrong.... The way you Edit Mark is simple and really relaxing style to watch I can just listen to what you say tab out play my game.. Where if you take a Pro like Casey N. you will not get anything out of that vid if you Tab out. His work is something you have to Watch and not listen to..

£5k prob. iMac, camera, Len’s, etc. hard to say what I have spent now, do you include the fitness gear I buy? If it’s simply filming/video/editing stuff - probably £10-15k

How many hours would you recon do you work within your youtube Business per week?
That’s a really hard question-in theory, it is 100% full time. Some days I will be in there at six in the morning and not leave until midnight. But then, what is defined as work? I have just come off a two hour bike session that I was filming, I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t need it for RUclips - so is that work or is that fun?

Ohhhhh. Probably the RUclips stuff. I love the creative element. If I had to throw away all my sports gear, apart from a pair of trainers, I’ve got to keep the studio-I still find a way to make content.
