  • Did you know that there are many different formal eating styles? Two of the most popular are Continental and Zig Zag. You may not have heard these terms before, but you certainly have eaten one of these styles and seen them in movies!
In this video, I show you the different between the two and even give a brief history of where each came from.
So, which eating style do you prefer?

Tines down actually is a UK only variant of the continental style.
True continental uses tines up whenever it makes sense (like for peas).

I'm left-handed, so I've always used the Continental method.

The Continental is what I use, as well, I think it’s easier! 💕💕🍴

Sometimes I find myself mixing both throughout the course of the meal and not realize it. If I have to judge which style shows more elegance and sophistication, I’d say continental style.

You are so classy and positive!Good vibes! I enjoyed the video. I knew both methods but I didn't know that they are called continental and zig zag! I use only continental but I modify it a bit: I am right handed and I hold fork in my right hand, I am breaking the rules here a bit because it's way comfortable for me. Would you consider it etiquette mistake or an adjustment? :D I will be happy to hear an expert's opinion! Thank you!

      Yes, you do! 🍽️
I love Australia, I was lucky to have been there very recently with my husband, we went all through the southern coast of Australia. I absolutely loved everything about it! Including the table, manners! Lol. Thank you for watching and for pointing this out, it’s interesting, how many parts of the world use the continental method!
I hope I get back to your beautiful country again soon !💕💕🇦🇺🦘🌏

Ambassador Don Gooly always handed out instructions before any meal at the residence, my great Aunt from SE Asia took great umbrage and revealed a small French bulldog from under her vast dress,,Gooly threw a strop and kicked the dog up the backside, well !!All hell broke loose, the dog zig zagged across the floor failing to make traction on the polished Chinese ash floor, the maid at that very moment entered the room with an overflowing skillet of Tripe, tripped over the outa control dog and and well !!!Tripe everywhere,
