Hello the sound of the hpm is bassy, punchy and clear and is clearer than many of my speakers from my collection I don't know the jbl l5 and can not draw a comparison but for people who are looking for a fun loudspeaker give a recommendation where the smaller model than the hpm 700 I wouldn't take it.
