The best weapon is definitely both of them combined, for every reason you said + the technique mace swapping / sword swapping where you hold a sword and switch to a mace right before your attack. it basically does the swords damage combined with the maces ability. It can do 3-4 hearts a crit to a protection 4 netherite player by just jumping (with breach) amazing video :D
Tips for killing wither in 10 seconds❤
Its hard to kill the wither with the mace because of the smaller hitbox and flying ability and the netherite sword just dosent do it fast enough

if I take weapon itself and how it is used and what it can do, overall I like trident most, then sword, axe and then mace, but each has its place (this whole is also my opinion only and in java, sorry but I dont care about bedrock, "old" combat system I dont like over one with timing and everything here is taken towards java, as it is version I play, and yes, I tried bedrock, staying at java myself, so please dont get mad that I dont play same version or whatever, it isnt about what version is better or worse here)
trident is practically necessity to do ocean monument (unless some special "cheese" methods are used but even then, trident helps a lot) and having ranged attack under water since arrows are useless there, it can be ranged or melee if enchanted well and even if it should be improved (like it to return to slot it was thrown from so you dont have to constantly look for it in inventory when using loyalty), it is good way to carry ranged and melee option while not needing 3+ slots (sword, bow, arrows), only issue is that impaling is useful literally only on guardians (no need more damage on squid and fish), it has no sharpness or any other damage boost, not even smite, other than channeling and that is not always good since it starts fires, can burn actual loot and XP and work only in storms and outside, but it helps you getting charged creepers to farm some heads when you have storm so it is surely tool very useful for at least these two situations for everyone (water monument and head farming), even if other aspects arent important, it has however poor durability compared to other options and can be repaired only by other tridents, which with how rare it is, mending is absolute need (also repairing in minecraft sucks anyways so every weapon basically needs mending because how "too expensive" works and how it asks for more and more XP
sword is well rounded melee weapon, not many quirks, other than sweeping edge and "critical" (which has every melee weapon but on sword it is mutually exclusive with AoE attack of sweeping edge so player has to pick one), sadly sweeping edge can be also detrimental, when you want to hit only specific mob and not others, it can be tricky, only reason I bother with sword in survival now, when we got so many alternatives, is looting, so indeed I use sword most anyway, looting is so powerful enchantment, you get more meat from animals, you get more droops from monsters.. and only sword can have looting at moment, also using with shield or bow/crossbow in offhand is super easy with it, which is bit trickier with trident or axe basically, fire aspect can be also good or bad, depending on what you want, you get instantly cooked meat, but not every time you want that (trading that with villagers for example or even potatoes from zombies if you somehow struggle to get first potato to start farming those), sweeping edge however torches every mob affected, sweeping edge itself also damages mobs affected by it, unlike mace smash, so it works decently for crowd control, sadly getting mobs hit by sweeping edge is quite hard to learn and not every time works, since being hit makes you fly a tiny bit and during that sweeping edge dont work, as well as timing attacks are needed, but at very least, leaving looting sword for mob farming is surely thing everyone should do
axe is very strong with each hit and if you have low resources, in early game you can definitely skip sword and use stone axe that has quite good damage or iron one that can be acquired as loot from many places, it takes twice as much durability to use as weapon however so it may not last long, but even gold axe with mending (that can be in portal chests apparently easily) served me well for while when I had not better things at moment but it had very thin layer to collect XP to repair before breaking, issue can be scraping blocks accidentally with them, also so far they are only things disabling shields in PvP, which is pointless in survival for me, since no mobs carry and use shields nor any similar mechanic exists for mobs
mace is very niche weapon, it works super funny and OP in theory, on paper, or in super specifically build mob farms or constructs, but as told in video, ranged mobs can send you fly else, it dont work in water, slow falling potion dont let you make super easy cheese combos, it dont work with elytra or I havent managed to make that work at all, also AoE smash knock back kicks away all mobs close to target, making chaining smashes with wind burst extremely hard actually, and I tried on flat spot, also as told, without convenient terrain, contraptions or using other items (wind charge or riptide trident), mace is literally worst weapon out there, it would help a bit if it was disabling shields, and it should disable them, as axe do, and also smash attack having sweeping edge-like effect to damage or at least torch them (if fire aspect is used), breach feels pointless compared to boost given by density and it is is useless in normal survival words since mobs never spawn with OP gear good enough for it to be worth (it should be not mutually exclusive I guess but as it is, it isnt usually worth it, especially if you use that falling smash damage), it also should disable shields as axe do, it would boost its usefullness and logic a bit as well, but it can be repaired by breeze rods, and those are easy to farm (especially with looting sword), wind charged enchant is extremely hard to get, even worse if you want it on 3rd level actually
overall optainability is tricky, trident and mace can be both acquired in trial chambers and tridents also spawn with drowned, from which is hard to get those however, but in my first trial chamber I found trident (two actually) and heavy core, so i was either super lucky or it isnt too hard to get them, but unlike other options, mace isnt renewable by legit means (netherite isnt renewable too but diamond tier weapons at least are), while theoretically you can have semi-AFK trident farm made and tossing those around instead of arrows anyway, netherite however is hard to get and needed for ton of other things (armor and tools), but diamond sword/axe arent too bad compared to netherite so I would say optainability is much easier on sword/axe since netherite I take as good and nice but not necessary upgrade there (I think armor is more worth upgrading first), but getting netherite is literally mere grind, just strip mine in nether, nether that is not too dangerous since all mobs you can see in strip mine will be neutral (if golden armor piece is worn), only danger is lava there, while trident wielding drowned are very strong and rare and you dont even get trident drop guaranteed, and trial chambers are hard to find without map villager, and you need to defeat mobs there, which can be hard and also got to be lucky to have actually these items in your chamber
overal surely each weapon in MC is unique in some way, unlike many games, actually new weapon changes things a bit and each one has different playstyle or options entirely, even bow/crossbow have very different usages actually, only what they share is arrows and that they are ranged weapon, and sure I like to see new weapons being added, cant wait for more and even I got mace and will try to have some fun even in survival with it, I likie to have just more options how people can play game that is about having infinite options, and people who disagree wiht me here dont need to complain on my opinion, by design, not every weapon will be for everyone and every place.. now only to get more niche armors than just elytra for flying and turtle helmet for early game diving

Actually You Can Fall Off A One Block To Activate The Wind Burst Enchantment Great Timing Required Though But Still I Would Say The Mace Win Here Because In Low Spaces Like Caves You Still You can Use The Mace With Great Timing Still Mostly In 3 Block Hight's Still The Mace Is Really Fun To Use Because of That Reason I Would Say Its Really Easy To Master The Mace Because I Use The Mace A LOT Of Time Because Its Fun To Use On Mobs And Because of That I Got Really Good Aim And Timing Done Netherite Sword Is Still Is Great Though To Use. [This Is My Thoughts On The Mace and The Video btw]

Mace is tricky to use though. It can’t be used in a closed space. Has less enchantments and even if it’s better for those kind of fights overall a netherite sword has better value. You clearly didn’t watch the video.

@@CheesyPotato69 for example: the axe is better for farming animals, damaging one specific target, or shields, but sword is better for mobs with more than 10 hearts, tight attack places, quick attacking, combos, etc
