Best tutorial! Loved the envelope follower with the infiltrator! A cool trick I like to use is duplicating the sub and putting it in a group with another sound. Then distorting that group and the sound will flutter to the rate of the sub, and you can cut the sub out afterwards. It can help make the sub sound heavy on iphone speakers
@@MikeIVIV lots of insight u won’t find many other channels, and it’s condensed very well with good before / afters. i’ve been a sub here since 10k and i honestly don’t know how he isn’t the biggest channel, atleast for edm/trap info
For the fl folks, you can do the spacing effect in patcher. First audio chain goes out like normal, second audio chain goes to your reverb plugin, then fruity limiter. This will allow you to have a self-sidechained reverb as a normal effect
this is how it's done!!! most producers are super light-handed, and sometimes you gotta pitch/stretch/overprocess/mangle to get sounds that stand out. amazing tips here
You can also use ableton's stock sound grain delay for the first trick, then there is no need to resample, everything you need to make the effect is in the device.
This has to be the greatest video for music production ive ever seen, this is clearly knowing what he wants and many years of experience, thanks for making this video
@10:27 bruh this sounds like one of those grand rising moments in a movie when the main character come back stronger if that makes sense but that's dumb creative. love the wobble with the LFO. Yo i been wondering how to add textures to a sound for awhile and who can teach that and simplify it in a short time you really became the answer and gave more then 1 way to do that. You exceed the expectation.
Okay so I usually don't comment on videos but this is incredible. It took me years to learn some of these thing but in regard to sound design, this is probably one of the most valuable videos I've seen on RUclips. Good job.
Low pass distortion is the one I've heard often but didn't know how it's actually done! I mean it's obvious that you distort the sound heavily but wasn't aware of low passing it first! Siiiick! :)
🌟 Here is a summary. Thank me later, you got this! 🎨 Sound Design Techniques: 1. Sparkles: • Start with a melody, add delay, resample, pitch up, EQ, and layer with the original. • Use plugins like Bartle or Crystalizer for instant sparkles. 2. Sub Distortion: • Combine a sub bass with other sounds, apply distortion to the group for a crunchy effect. 3. Space Side Chaining: • Group reverb and delay, apply side chain compression to the wet chain, creating space effects only when the main sound is not present. 4. Granular Synthesis: • Use free synths like Granulator 2 (Ableton) or Quanta to create pads or unique sounds from small audio pieces. 5. Frequency Shifting: • Shift all frequencies up or down for unique effects without altering pitch dramatically. 6. Delay Pitch Automation: • Use built-in DAW delay with repitch option, automate time and feedback knobs for clean pitch shifting. 7. Layering: • Combine multiple sounds to enhance fullness and energy, ensuring they occupy different frequency regions. 8. Unexpected Plugins: • Experiment with plugins to find happy accidents, then render and chop up these sounds for new ideas. 9. Automations: • Use automations to make tracks more dynamic and interesting by moving knobs and filling transitions. 10. Soft Clipping: • Apply soft clipping to sounds crossing 0 dB for rich, squashed sounds, especially useful on drums. 11. Pitch Manipulation: • Use pitch automation to add expression and natural movement to tracks. 12. Tonal Delay: • Repeat small sound portions with delay, adjust time and feedback for different pitches. 13. Resampling: • Record sounds onto another track, then manipulate (fade, pitch, stretch) to create new textures. 14. Chopping, Stretching, Pitching: • Export and manipulate sections of the song, chop, pitch, and stretch for creative reshaping. 15. Effect Racks: • Create racks with multiple effects, automate parameters to evolve the sound continuously. 16. Micro Sampling: • Loop short sound pieces to use as playable instruments, even white noise. 17. Resonance Melodies: • Automate resonances to create melodies from samples by sweeping through frequency spectrums. 18. Multiple OTTs: • Apply multiple OTT compressors for exaggerated effects, then resample. 19. Sound Degradation: • Use hardware or plugins to degrade sound quality (cassette, EQ, distortion) for a retro effect. 20. Envelope Following: • Map sound waveforms to parameters, creating effects that play only when the sound is active. 21. Frequency Isolation: • Isolate specific frequencies from samples to create unusual sounds. 22. Vocal Chops: • Use samplers or manual chopping to create vocal chops, then add effects for interest. 23. Low Pass Distortion: • Cut high frequencies with a low pass filter, then add harmonics with distortion for added high frequencies. 24. Transient Shaping: • Control attack, sustain, and release of sounds, adding punch or making them tighter. 25. Sound Reversing: • Reverse parts of melodies to create better flow and connection in the music.
Really nice video, lots of fun tricks. If I can add one of mine: warp a melodic source but set warp mode to beats in 8ths or 16ths, tinker with decay/fade settings to get really nice pitched rhythms to sit alongside beats
yeah ... some weeks ago I saw my first video on this this channel and even before I watched it completely I had to investigate if the are complete tracks from him ... even if this is normally not the music i listen to, his sound design by itself is catching me - simply awesome!
We could call them the same thing. Resampling is a function in ableton that let's you record a master output onto a certain track. You can solo tracks and record only them. They go through the master always. So it's a real time master bounce
I really like the tips but they also instantly make me think.. How am I ever going to learn all this stuff and remember it. But it gives instant inspiration and therefore I thank you!!
Yup. Just commit to sticking to one tip at a time... maybe even keep recreating the same tip throughout the week so you hammer in the process and workflow, because lord knows it takes me many more times than just once to actually learn something.
I typed out all of the tips in my notes app on my phone so that I can go back to the list and remember them, you can do the same. And thank you, Oversampled!
SO MUCH VALUE in this video, wow. Aside from the specific techniques (which I'm probably going to forget and I'll have to come back to check) I think this is very inspiring in terms of just being more creative and experimental with sound.
I'm being very selective to who I subscribe to on RUclips for 2023 because I'd like to be less distracted in general. But I will subscribe to you. Thanks for this video. Good luck with everything in the future!

Which technique the best + what did I miss?? 🤔

boo
The best technique is when you hide other samples you use like vocals and leave only the oversampled ones
this could be the best single video on music production on all of RUclips
Hope the video backs up these claims. I’m invested now

Excited to watch 👀❤️🔥
No surprise there. Oversampled already has BEEN the best music production channel on all of RUclips

heavily invested 8 yrs into ableton and thought i knew it all but you sir are just next level!
oof
i love that you show not only the fx but how how they fit in a track
Microsampling and sound isolation are my favourites!!
I love this format. Clean, to the point, and packed with goodies.
19:16 making melodies out of resonance is actually brilliant
Zelda vibes...

Absolutely top notch content - producing for 10+ years now but always still learning and you make it easy to understand! Thank you good sir.
wow they are absolutely awesome ideas. thank you for sharing!
Now time to make some tunes so that people's shoulders get hot! 😜
