Amazing, caves are certainly phenomenal and a mysterious place....I've always wanted to explore caves and see, never seen before, creatures/critters inside the caves. Thanks but no thanks Irina. I'm not a cave person. However, I used to swim in one in St. Mary when I was a kid. It was not an underwater cave. It was a surface cave. You can't see it from land, but once you get in the water you can see straight into it and swim right into it when the sea is calm. It's extremely dangerous and suicidal to swim into it when the sea is rough though, and rough sea swimming was my passion. I love the adrenaline rush of being bounced about by the waves in rough sea. I would swim in the same location of the cave in rough sea, but would stay away from its mouth to avoid being swept in by the waves and be crushed against the cave walls. I thought it would get blocked up by huge underwater boulders during hurricanes because it's a short cave, but it's still there and I heard a shark lives in it now. It's beneath Dor's Fish Pot in Race Course, Oracabessa, St. Mary. It's below and to the right if you're standing in the dining area next to the seawall looking out to sea, but you won't be able to see it from up there. I would go back in there if the shark wasn't living in there. I want to do green grotto one of these days though, and that will be the extent of my cave expedition. There are some inland caves around the area there (southeast of Dor's, up in the hills) too, There was one that they used to harvest bat manure from back in the day and sell to the hotels, farmers and horticulturists, I believe. I live close to a lot of caves in St Elizabeth. I always wondered why Cave tours aren't a thing. There is a cave nearby where people catch Lobster size Crayfishes. Not many locals have ever been in most of these caves. I myself have only been to the entrance of a few. There is supposed to be an underwater cave in a blue hole nearby. I am astonished at how many beautiful natural wonders exists in Jamaica. We have everything we need to become a prosperous nation. What we have lacked is proper management. Irina's videos have done an extraordinary job in bringing attention and awareness of the real treasures of jamaica.

My theory why cave tours are not the thing to do in Jamaica is : because most tourists come from USA and they just like to eat and party ! To get my friends (in New Jersey) to go hiking for just 3 hours happend about 5x times in 30 years. I usually go by my self or with my European friends or visitors.

I’ve been in the UK for 25 years now & a recent trip confirmed that I’ll be moving back home. It is time. When I was there, we were all in the vehicle driving & I asked how can they not love all the beauty they see. They shrugged. A Jamaican living in Jamaica will never appreciate its beauty until they leave & realise the grass aint greener on the other side. ✋🏽

I am aware of many caves that exist which have never been told. I have visited some of the popular ones. Helshire has a popular one for tourist attractions, the Twin Sisters' Cave There is also cave unknown lin Portmore at the base of Bayside Hills, uniquely identified by lite Huge Red Cross on the Hill itself. The cave is located below the said Church Cross. As children we attended the Church that built the cross and so visited the entrance of the cave and we saw the water. We never entered the cave because it was rumored a Mermade/s lived in the cave and would take us away. The hill also is limestone based and links back to Helshire Hills I don't know if the cave was every studied but the area is now very built up and commercialised. One day maybe the cave can be studied for its potential. As usual you bring new interesting site in you videos and I thank you for doing it. Your love for the natural geography ofJamaica reminds me of my Late German College Professor love for these rich unique natural sites. He made Jamaica his home too.. Take care and walk good Irina!

There is a cave system in Roehampton St. James where I'm from, as a school boy, myself and other boys would often enter, each with a kerosene bottle lamp and go as far as a third chamber. To go further we would have to crawl through a very narrow space, well none of us had the courage to do that, on top of which the legend was, we believed, if anyone swore or cursed a bad word, the cave would close around us. That's the extent of my caving experience, and I have absolutely no desire for any more.
Wow that’s a very interesting story. Most people don’t know that caves are the entrances to the underworld, aka other spiritual dimensions. They are very holy places, probably why they said never to swear there as you’d likely disturb the spirits that live there & they would cause you to get lost, start hallucinating then lure you to your death. We have no idea how much spiritual power our little island holds.

Regarding this episode - I grew up in Mandeville Jamaica and lived for a short while in Hopeton/Dunrobin. As kids, we would explore the caves. One in particular in Hopeton was rumored to stretch to Spurtree Hill. We would explore this cave for about 400-500m. Must say it was very dangerous. Since many people used bottle torches for light and would leave the broken bottles that were submerged in the water. Still have a major scare on my knee from a cut I received. Think many Jamaicans need to reconnect with nature and find ways to utilize and protect these and other natural resources. The government needs to play a more active role in ecotourism. Thanks, Irina
Wow great expedition!!!! Jamaica has the most amazing and mysterious Karst Geomorphological and hydrogeologic formations in the entire Caribbean in my opinion!!! And Jamaica has some of the most beautiful Calcite crystals in the world!!!!

Anywhere you find *Sinkholes* most likely there's cave nearby in *Jamaica.* The island is dotted with thousands of caves, especially within the Cockpit Country* where over five thousand *Hillock Mounds* are located. Inside each *Hillock* you will most likely find a cave with a connecting *Sinkhole.* As a child we would traverse several of them to hunt lionfish.... Caves are really interesting to me, but the green grotto, which I loved, is about as adventurist as I would get. The late great Anthony Bourdain visited a cave in Jamaica ( not sure which one) and I could definitely identify with his version of this kind of adventure 😂. Great video, as always!

There is Rockland...but maybe if you could explore and highlight other and feature and how to access and use them. As you know birding is very popular these days.....far more than Caving LOL. I'm not a cave person, even though I have swam in a cave in the sea and gone into some short ones in and around my neighborhood when I was a kid. I might try green grotto in the future, and that will be it for me 😆😆😆. I guess GoPros and other cameras in underwater cases would be well suited to shoot with in the caves. Regarding this episode - I grew up in Mandeville Jamaica and lived for a short while in Hopeton/Dunrobin. As kids, we would explore the caves. One in particular in Hopeton was rumored to stretch to Spurtree Hill. We would explore this cave for about 400-500m. Must say it was very dangerous. Since many people used bottle torches for light and would leave the broken bottles that were submerged in the water. Still have a major scare on my knee from a cut I received. Think many Jamaicans need to reconnect with nature and find ways to utilize and protect these and other natural resources. The government needs to play a more active role in ecotourism. Thanks, Irina

Wow great expedition!!!! Jamaica has the most amazing and mysterious Karst Geomorphological and hydrogeologic formations in the entire Caribbean in my opinion!!! And Jamaica has some of the most beautiful Calcite crystals in the world!!!!

Anywhere you find *Sinkholes* most likely there's cave nearby in *Jamaica.* The island is dotted with thousands of caves, especially within the Cockpit Country* where over five thousand *Hillock Mounds* are located. Inside each *Hillock* you will most likely find a cave with a connecting *Sinkhole.* As a child we would traverse several of them to hunt lionfish....
I have always said *Jamaica* is world's smallest continent, because it hold so much in it's 4,000+ square miles.

I was born in St.Mary,Jamaica and was never thought of some of the topics that you are covering. I would suggest that you do the Ministry of Education should include this topic in their geographical studies in schools.
Caves are really interesting to me, but the green grotto, which I loved, is about as adventurist as I would get. The late great Anthony Bourdain visited a cave in Jamaica ( not sure which one) and I could definitely identify with his version of this kind of adventure 😂. Great video, as always!

Great work as usual Irena. I was wondering if you could do a video on birding/bird photography in Jamaica. There is Rockland...but maybe if you could explore and highlight other and feature and how to access and use them. As you know birding is very popular these days.....far more than Caving LOL. Good evening Irie, I am enjoying your caving expedition, never knew there are that many caves in Jamaica, are they documenting them in book form for the children in schools, would be a very good idea, because I am sure not many people are aware of the presence of caves, let alone one thousand of them. That little island is truly unique

Wow Irina! You get better and better everyday. Nice work. But I'll only explore caves vicariously through your videos (mostly). I'm not a cave person, even though I have swam in a cave in the sea and gone into some short ones in and around my neighborhood when I was a kid. I might try green grotto in the future, and that will be it for me 😆😆😆.

There is a good cave system in Broughton. Never tried, but I remember the boys saying they were going down a cave.
