Ashley & James... This was absolutely epic, just fabulous!!! Seriously well done, what a massive challenge, and one that you will never ever forget. I watched Alan Metalman's film who mentioned this film, initially I watched your first attempt from April and was gutted for you both when you decided to leave Lamagan, but the best decision. But then I saw your latest film and I couldn't wait to get stuck into it. I just loved your intro and I can see how much it meant to you, what a achievement and what better way to achieve something as epic as that than with your son.. I was chuffed to bits when you summited Lamagan, I bet you were both absolutely shot at.. Well done to you both, a fabulous film and great to see such camaraderie between you both. Thank yo so much for sharing this with us. All the very best Matthew & Sue
Thank you both so much, Matthew and Sue for your very encouraging words. I'm still wondering how I did it. Big difference between the Mournes and the Lake District is the quality of the paths, with the latter so much better. That made the challenge even harder, but James literally and physically did carry me round. Getting up to the summit of Lamigan was so difficult, it's tough even when you are fresh, but there was a lot of emotion there. Time to move on to the next challenge!! Back in the Lake District next May, and off to New Zealand this November, so a lot to look forward to. Many thanks for watching, regards, Ashley
Ashley, well done to you and James on a fantastic achievement👍👍 Really cool to go back and push yourself so much and do it - that was a big and long old day. Great that it was the mutual support that helped cross the finish line. Good idea to leave the bags at the Saddle x 2. Slieve Beranagh is definitely 'tight, tight, tight' and well done on facing that dreaded climb up Lamagan. An epic adventure👍👍
Thank you so much, Gerry, still don't know how I pulled through it. We could have done it easier but starting at Ott and finishing at Carrick Little but we wanted to do the circular route, as we are gluttons for punishment!! We can now look back on it with happiness and contentment. Haven't faced a mountain since though, sticking to Parkrun!! Regards, Ashley
Brilliant Ashley, what an heartwarming and inspiring video. Fantastic achievement especially being able to do it with your son. Well done guys, making me want to give it a go now!
Thanks so much, I do hope it does inspire you. It's tough but if you have some one to carry your bag and pull you through like I had then you should make it!! Regards, Ashley
Well done to you both. Carol says you have an awesome son carrying your back pack! Fantastic achievement and you were rewarded with the beautiful sunset at the end. Great stuff Ashley. Take care. Cheers. Eddie & Carol
Thank you Eddie and Carol. Yes, you are so right about James. He literally carried through. It's the toughest hike I will ever do and at the moment I've retired!! But that won't last long. There's still a few more mountains I'd like to conquer. I've got a bit fed up lately with the video editing process, so I sat in the garden and did a bit of a rant!! It will go live tomorrow, so very interested to see how it goes down!! Thanks as ever for watching, regards, Ashley
Absolute warriors both of you,, where does James get his energy from? What a son having your back. Mate it looked like the 2 of yous could of just fell asleep in the car at the end, yes who did talk you into that 🤔😂 but ya know what you did it, and yous did it together. Take care buddy 👍
Thanks David, I still don't know really how I kept going because after Bearnagh I was done, but James dragged me along and doing it with him is definitely a highlight we will never forget. I have a plan to do Errigal with my daughter, and still want to do Benbulbin in Sligo so there's still a few hikes I'd like to do - Maybe Slieve League again too, so who knows where we will pop up next. Am halfway through your Hen Mountain video, enjoyed your story about your health journey. I agree totally, the hills are the answer to mental health issues and addictions - you totally switch off when you're climbing and watching nature. Beware of that crow though, it might just come after you!! Regards, Ashley
Yes Ashley he is definitely a son to be proud of. I watched your last vlog should you quit or not,,, that's a tough one I know what you mean about the editing it's tasking and time consuming,,,, I really do enjoy your vlogs mate and look forward to them, but it's what's important to you and you life outside of social media, Andrea and the kids are number 1 priority and your happiness. I'd take time to think even take a break for a bit then come back refreshed. Either way it's your decision buddy, but I'd still like to keep in contact what ever your decision pal. Take care. Yes Errigal would be a cool one to do it's been on my mind for a long time.
Hi Ashley, Hi James. Many congratulations great achievement. That looked an incredibly tough old day, but what fantastic views. Absolutely amazing. Memories that will last for ever. I hope now all the aches and pains have all gone. That’s some walking, 17 hours. I bet Andrea was doing her nut! 🤣🤣 All the best guys 😀🥾⛰
Thanks Dave, Andrea was tracking me using the Life360 app and James sent a few texts - I was too tired and focused to do any of that. Hiking in the Mournes has different challenges to the Lake District - I would love all the Lake District paths and steps to be put in place here!! I hit the wall several times but James literally carried me along. I'm not sure if I told you this but we were meant to be in the Lake District this week. However, grandchild number 2 is on the way, due in January. We were meant to go to New Zealand then so that got pulled and then moved to November this year. That meant the Lake District trip got moved to next May. So, next May we will be back and hopefully, if it works for you, we can meet up then and do a hike together - learn from your expertise!! All the best, Ashley
@@ashleyjarnold Thats brilliant news Ashley, I hope everything all goes well.....I'm sure it will. It would be lovely to meet up with you when you are back over in the Lake District. And it would be an honour and a please to show you how not to do it! Haha

I said I would never climb a mountain again after it but I'm reconsidering!! Going down under next month and have a few cunning plans. Thanks for watching, regards, Ashley
Good grief.....17 hours, unbelievable achievement but one I bet you would not be rushing to doing again, absolutely no way I could mange that now, or even at any point to be honest. You look different from the person who set out, so you can see how much it had taken out from you. Very enthusiastic start, loved the singing but that soon went with the early morning mist. It may have been warm but those views were superb and the dry weather may well have helped over the Bog of Doom. Amazing, very well done to you both but I bet that extra 5 minutes walk to the normal car parking spot, albeit nothing on the way there, must have been a killer on the way back! What an achievement - great watch!! Cheers Alan
Thanks Alan, there were many hard parts on the walk, but the walk back from the last peak took about 4 hours - the light had gone and the route just seemed to go on and on. I was delighted when we reached the sign at Donard Park, and the extra bit didn't really bother me though my feet were aching. All the descending hurt my toes, James ended up with huge blisters and we were almost mentally defeated many times but James carried me through - don't quit, and don't let him down was what i kept telling myself - when you have the right attitude you will amaze yourself with what you can do!! I was so tired at times I couldn't even get the camera out to record it!! One day, I'll be able to laugh about it, but not yet!! Still we did it, and did it together. Thanks again, Alan for watching, regards, Ashley
