I live in Vancouver and have seen many Coyotes while walking home from work at night. Have also seen them in plain daylight while driving in a car. Seen 2 at one time before. I haven't seen any in a while though. They go after small prey and not adult humans. They are more scared of humans than we should feel threatened by them. Definitely don't feed coyotes. Lol!! It's you again. I just watched your "stalking lady and dog" vid and then clicked on this not knowing it was the same cast of characters. ;) I swear you just have yourself a confident, curious animal that hasn't had a particularly bad experience with humans yet (probably the opposite-probably fed by humans) and is relaxed around them. I don't think this handsome animal is out to attack anyone. Maybe just enjoy observing him with out the dramatics. Lol

By allowing it to do this you are just adding to its boldness, Whenever you see an urbanized Coyote immediately charge at it, wave your arms, yell, throw sticks and stones at it.
this is a coyote with mange...notice he hair a almost hairless tail, he is scratching and you can see the mange is already starting on the fron shins of his legs...he has also most likely been getting handouts, this is why he lacks fear.... a fed coyote is a dead coyote
Did some coyote research and found that if you allow these animals to come close to you or if you feed them they will eventually lose their natural fear of humans. This will most certainly ensure an attack on a young child at some point. Then that will ensure the coyote is shot dead by state wildlife officials. A loss for all involved including the coyotes life.
This coyote was not playing, or just curious, or just doing his own thing... he was looking for prey and if given the right opportunity, he would have gone after the dog/lady/cameraman. He was a clear threat to public safety. Coyotes are beautiful creatures and I HATE having to put them down (usually due to showing symptoms of rabies/distemper) but all wildlife should have a healthy fear of humans, for our safety and their own.
The only thing that scares me about this coyote is that fact that he is NOT afraid of humans or the city life. He is probably living on house cats and stray dogs. Need to get him trapped and get him out of there or kill him. When he runs out of cats and dogs he will start on toddlers and old ladies.
Attack Strategy? Clearly you know nothing about coyotes. I, however, am an expert on coyotes and their behaviors. I did not see any sign of aggression or hostility. He was clearly curious of the situation and the place where he was.
And also. In that video you just told me to watch you can CLEARLY see he is not aggressive. CLEARLY. #1 His hackles are not upright like you would see with a coyote that is hostile. #2 if he really wanted to hurt the man he would have, he wouldn't have just been toying around with him. Coyotes are breed to kill, not saying humans because that is rare and pretty much never happens. #3 The man was obviously not in danger because he was not making any attempt to free him self from the coyote if he was in danger. Please take you mindless comments somewhere else where you obviously know nothing. 32 years of experience studying coyotes and other animals is clearly not enough knowledge but a video is. This world is going down hill fast from people like you.
says the one is probably 600lbs and has no life and no money and finds joy in talking shit over the safety net of a computer. i have a career in my field of expertise and you cant say the same.
***** Umm..yeah there is...YOU :) all you're doing is keeping my comment popular and at the top..talk all the crap you want...my intelligence trumps your idiocy..
Most of the coyotes here have mange and it seems to start at the tail. Unfortunately these animals have a slow painful death and end up dying in the winter when the mange gets severe. I have seen 7 different coyotes in one week before. They may look the same but they are not, after a while you can tell the difference. Like this video - I called this one scare face.
actually that coyote seems to have some form of mange. He looks more curious then aggressive. I lived around coyotes for years, yes they went after my chickens even cats, but I never felt any fear they would harm me. I cant help wondering on this animals background
From how he was acting and reacting to you he was showing signs of pure curiosity and then he didnt see you as a threat from teh start for the face he relaxed multiple times and stated scavenging for food in the area. He saw you fall and wondered what is this near me and was trying to getg closer to figure it out. He wasnt thinking you as food and since aparently hes in teh area alot he must be used to humen interaction and also seemed like he was waiting for you to feed him.
Wow! I've never seen such a calm coyote like that before. He must've buried food nearby and was looking for it or he was really curious about you (cameraman). lol! The coyotes around here are majorly wild and run like hell if it spots you 100 ft away. haha! mangy looking aren't they?
If you know anything about Canines in general (Wolves, Coyotes.. even domesticated dogs), lying down is most likely seen as submission, and I wouldn't doubt if he was also curious about you, too. But if you act as if you are sure of yourself (confident), and assertive (and dominant), he'll be less likely to want to "tango" with you.
Coyotes do attack humans, especially children. If these were wolves living in our neighborhood going after people, their children and their pets then everybody would feel differently and want something done. When my son was young I had a coyote come after us in a park and two Grandmothers (who were there with their grandchildren), helped me scare it back enough so we could leave and get in our cars. Several people had the same thing happen and we all called in about it. It finally it attacked a little girl on the swings and pulled her off. Poor little girl had to have a shot and stitches and then they finally came and killed it.
just wondering. bc here in my state we can shoot coyotes year round as long as we have a hunting license. they are a nuisance and we are allowed to shoot all coyotes that we see. but im pretty sure we arent allowed to shoot so close to town unless it was an emergency.
laswan s. Thanks for the reply. Surely Wikipedia ignores the fact that packs of coyotes can represent a serious threat to humans. But I think, even if only by hunger, its nature will take him to get closer and closer to man. Peacefully.
Getting on your knees is a stupid idea with an animal like that. Being down lower to the ground makes you look less intimidating and possibly even injured. Coyote was trying to figure out if you were fair game or not.
Give me a break Bruce. This coyote isn't sick. It's winter and this is its winter coat coming in. I have a coyote in my home. I adopted it from the animal shelter at 3 months old. At that time they said it was a Shepard mix. I had no reason to doubt it because she was blonde with a saddle. Two months later her coat had changed, her color, she was standing on her tip toes and crossing her back legs and using them as one. For the last nine years she has been so loving. She has bitten no one in her life. She's almost 10 years old now. Let's get facts straight Bruce. Wolves are aggressive and dangerous. Coyotes are scaredy cats to an extent. The only time the they get aggressive is when they feel threatened. Like when you walk into their territory. Or to protect their pups. So forth and so on. People don't usually see coyotes because they hide. They are more afraid of humans. Seems to me that this coyote isn't stalking little old women, their dogs and you. It's you stalking it.
I had a coyote follow me from the bus stop to my front door. It was in the summertime in broad daylight. It didn't attack, just kept pace with my walking. Came up the driveway and up the steps to the house. I closed the glass screen door and we both looked at each other in confusion. My instinct told me he needed some food. So after we looked at each other for a minute, he turned tail and left. I wasn't actually afraid until I got behind the glass screen door, funnily enough. But I am naturally observant, and knew he was following me from the start. The other thing is, animals, whatever they are, birds, foxes, and mice come to me to communicate. I suppose I can add "coyote" to the list!
That's it, you guys on these comment boards just keep thinking he's curious. The rest of us will read about your remains being found in the newspaper the next day.
I'm sure I was right. Answer these 2 questions: 1. do you hunt? 2. do you think we should kill coyotes? Also why are you referring to someone who is anti-killing of animals as an environmentalist as if it's a bad thing? Does that mean hunters are anti-environment? And what makes you think I'm a liberal?
Few weeks ago I encountered an Eastern coyote (or should I say "Coywolf" since all of the coyotes here in the eastern to Atlantic regions have varying degrees of Grey wolves in them) while walking by Lake Ontario and tried to use the same method as you did but instead of circling me the Coywolf took off at full speed before i could pull out my iphone. There's a huge difference between your western pure coyotes and my eastern Coywolves temperament-wise
Truly you don't know coyote behavior. Coyotes will not harm a human. They are curious and opportunistic and are very intelligent and know their place. Especially a lone coyote, never. Check the statistics my friend. More ppl are attacked and killed by a dog then a wild coyote.
I have come across coyotes a couple of times. I have found them very shy as they slink around. I have been as close as you in this video but I was not circled. I would not have gone down on my knees to try to draw him close as you did. I think it likely that this coyote was fed by someone and it was looking for another hand out.
You did a disservice to the coyote and human population by acting casually. Both are safer if they have a general fear of humans, so it's good to act big and loud to scare them away. This comment might not be popular to those who like to engage in hugging activity with deciduous growth, but it's what the experts recommend.
Please get your facts right. We were here first - Burnaby , Vancouver area. Coyotes started showing up around 1985. I'm all for coexisting with coyotes and other wildlife. I helped rescue 5 coyote pups last year. You need to check out this website so you can understand coyotes a little more.(Co-Existing with Coyotes - Stanley Park Ecology Society)
I live in a small town on the Olympic Peninsula in WA state. There are so many coyotes here it's insane! Right here in town. Of course they're out in the county also but I hear them and see them in town night and day. I hate when people put up lost dog and or lost cat signs. I know they will probably never see their pet again. I's such a big problem here that I would think everyone would know by now and keep their pets inside. And be with them when they go out. I have lost 2 cats to coyotes and so has my daughter. Coyotes aren't as afraid of people as they used to be. I'm almost 64 and lived out in the county in very rural areas mostly. I have seen plenty of coyotes and they are known to be shy. Not so much anymore though. It's been on the local news that they have made aggressive moves on small kids and even adults in parks that border cities like Seattle. I don't trust them at all. My friend was riding on a trail that runs both in and out of town. Not far from her house her hose stopped and not 15 feet away just off the trail was a coyote. It just stood there watching as she filmed it. She made a move and sounds because she didn't want to back down. So it walked away slowly, like not a care in the world. I'm glad my kids are grown adults.
+Traci Scheelk I'm sorry for your loss also. My daughter lost 2 and then the 3rd one, omg she was so special. Small but quick and independant as heck! But so sweet. They always kept tabs on her and though she went out during the day and somewhat supervised, she was always in at night. I lived in my travel trailer behind their house and one night I stayed with a friend. Came home and they were outside. I walked over to her and her husband and my daughter said Itty-Bitty didn't come in all night. I knew right then and it was like someone just reached in and jerked my heart right out of my chest. I was living outside of a little town before that when I lost my Baby Girl and Deuce. In a trailer out in the woods. I had a window open all the time and made it so they had something to climb up on and could come through the window when they wanted or needed to. I could hear the coyotes every night. I would go out and bang pots and lids thinking I was scaring them off. But after my cats were gone a friend was over and we walked out in the brush and trees behind my place and not 25 or 30 feet behind my trailer we could see where they'd been hanging out, laying down and whatever. Watching my cats probably! I don't like them anymore. People used to hunt them and it kept the numbers more balanced. But the only way one can shoot them now is if you're a farmer and they come on your land say like when the cows are having their calves. Cuz they are trying to get the babies. When my son in law is haying on the family farm the coyotes are thick! They are after all the rats, mice and rabbits that are disturbed by the big mower. It's a cruel world I'm afraid. Check this out...we have so many deer in town it's dangerous to drive around at night because they walk right out in front of you. It's insane how many there are. My daughter in law got a almost medium size dog and so she puts a leash on and walks him twice a day. Damn deer charged them! Scared the heck out of her. She saw it and was staying across the road and there were no new babies and none close by. But something rattled that deer! They can beat the heck out of a person and their hooves are sharp. There's YT videos on that also. Ya know I always say I won't get another one cuz I will have a broken heart one way or another. But though it took some time I do have another cat. I'm a glutton for punishment! Take care. Sorry I didn't mean to write a book!
Traci Scheelk I have never heard of deer attacking or charging at people. Unless I suppose one feels threatened or maybe during mating season. Males can be aggressive toward other male deer but I don't know about people. I stay out of their way but they will go right up to an open window where I saw a woman feeding apple slices to a mom deer and her yearling. The cat I have now will be 13 in June but I've only had her since she was 10. The family before me had her since she was tiny. The lady had allergies and said they were getting worse so she had to get rid of her. They also had busy lives, kids and a couple of big dogs! So the cat was in the way a lot and in fact she said they kept her and her food and her litter box in a bathroom for the last 8 months they had her! She was scared when she came to live with me. I gave her space and time. She would let me pet or brush her about 3-5 stokes and then just attack and draw blood. She had a flea collar on when I got her and the lady gave me some spay on cleaner because she said she didn't clean herself. As soon as she left I took the collar off and threw away all the toxic stuff she had given me. She began grooming herself a few days later and the she was puking up hairballs. But that was temp. Now hwe fur is soft and shiny and she hardly ever has fur balls. She used to go outside at her old home if she wanted. But then they began to leave her in the bathroom. With me she is very content to stay in though she loves to sit in her favorite overstuffed chair and look outside at times. She had really no personality when she arrived. Now she talks to me and loved to be brushed and or petted. Best mannered cat I've ever had. No way will she get up on a table or counter! She just won't. I still can't hold her in my lap but maybe in time. I can pick her up and hold her for a minute and I know when she's had enough. She hasn't scratched me in well over a year. One problem I do have is she won't use a scratch post or anything and is starting to scratch the carpet in a couple places. It's pulling some of the carpet out so I have to figure something out for that. Thank you so much.
+Traci Scheelk I have adopted a 10 year old female cat who had been abused and neglected. She will be 13 in June. She's very happy to sit in the window and watch the world out there. She has no desire to go out although I understand she was an outside cat before. She can't replace my Baby Girl and or Duecy Boy. But I love her too.To free up my heart it took someone telling me that my 2 little furry family members wouldn't want me to be sad like I was. It made sense. They never liked it when I was down. I'm so sorry about your Thumper. I know the pain. Take care.
Lay there long enough and lots of things will take advantage of the moment. He's clearly more frightened of u. If ure so concerned, trap him and drive him somewhere he can find real food.
They do this to gather scent, checking the wind direction for a scent check. I've called them with a predator call and they almost always circle first.
well said. i grew up around them, not only is he not stalking, he probably wonders what ur trip is and whether or not you are a threat. you can tell by the way his tail is down and between his legs. if he as stalking it would be slowly wagging. stalking, lol.
You were 100% right, it was stalking that woman and was next interested in you but got distracted by the smells one one particular gravestone. He isn't very fond of your camea equiptment. I love animals too but this one is too comfortable in this environment (dangerous) my suggestion this one has to go would be a great candidate in a zoo. any others the local animal control could shoot them wiht bean bags or use noise as a deterrrent. I would prefer the bags.
I agree by the look of his tail he may have mange. I am in Chicago I see behavior like this when people make the mistake of throwing tid bits of food to them, not saying the camera did just saying looks like some one may have. As for Coyotes being dangerous most won't attack, I been stalked while walking my dog I have two one a friendly outgoing hippie type lab and the other a mutt with a huge prey drive of about the same size, funny how the coyotes can tell, when walking the lab they come in close, when walking Dodger they clear out even though he does not bark or growl
I still have her. She's 10. The reason people are seeing coyotes now, is because we have intruded on their hunting ground. Normally you don't see them. They are very timid creatures. They also blend into nature extremely well. They are being seen in the day time as they aren't finding enough food during their nocturnal hours. Even though mine is very loving and tame she still hunts her food bowl in the middle of the night. She is also very territorial. Along with other coyote behavior. They can be dangerous if you are an adult or a child and you have cornered them and they have no way out. If you are a small child and they are larger than the child then yes they probably will attack as it is their instinct. They will also protect what they feel is their territory. I just get upset when I see people trying to make these creatures out to be some kinda of wild dog that's hunting humans. This coyote is no more stalking him than the man in the moon. For him to have gotten that close to the animal he has either "made friends" with it or someone in that neighborhood has " made friends" with it. Either way, the coyote doesn't have much fear of humans.
I would agree Kathryn, that coyote seemed to be looking for a friend. I often wonder how people and "dogs" ever got together to begin with at all, after reading some comments.
@cateyes221981 Actually, large northern coyotes from the upper Midwest(Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota), or the Northeast, often hit 50lbs, and animals over 60 are not unheard of. While in most of the southern and plains states, they are indeed the size you quoted...large ones in the northern Tier(outside of wolf territory in the great lakes, where wolves take over that niche), can indeed at least on occasion, hit those larger weights. Largest I've personally seen was around 55.
I live in the northside of Phoenix AZ, and at night they come walking down the street looking for food or small dogs and cats.I've seen them come as close as 10 feet away.Their pretty smart animals. They come into the outskirts of the city cuz the predator hunters can't shoot em.
So many comments from people who clearly have no knowledge or experience with coyotes. I love animals and being an animal control officer I deal with coyotes on a daily basis. A coyote with no fear of humans, out in daytime, stalking people and their dogs, should have been put down on-site.Animal control/police should have been called immediately. He does have slight mange but that doesn't play a factor in whether or not he should be put down.
Im freaking out right now, it was 1:10am yesterday and I heard footsteps behind me... turns out it was a coyote walking down the trains tracks less than 10 feet away from me! No one else was around and he just looked at ma, trotted on by and into the darkness! I ran back to my car right after he walked into the bushes... He was not scared of me at ALL.
The coyote looks healthy and strong, probably late spring and he is loosing his winter coat. Looks like other critters tried to catch him and in doing so pulled the skin and hair off of his tail.
I'm an animal behaviorist (zoologist/ethology)...You weren't in any danger. A few times it was marking territory with it's jaw, so you're in a place where it's communicating with others. That animal is not stalking or threatening. If you have ever seen a coyote stalking, you would easily see that this one is simply curious.
It's starving... and would eat you if you held still.
Coyote be like: dude I'm just here to pay my respects to that sweet old lady who used to throw steaks out back for me
W
coyote to human: "WTF are you doing?"
I bet people have also been tossing bits of food to him. Might be why he approaches humans as he does.
He wasn't trying any attack. He is looking for food. People have been feeding him.
If he wanted to attack the little dog with the woman he would have.
You're overstating the coyote's perceived aggression. When you lay down, you're being submissive and inviting him closer.
I like most of your other videos but I think you're way off base on this one.
My guess is this coyote lost his hunting skills a while ago. He’s waiting for you to give him food.
Dude just put a leash on him and take him home already.
Pretty obvious this coyote came there to pay his respect, probably to one of his victims.
This coyote is used to people and is probably fed by them from time to time. He doesn't seem dangerous as he is curious but he has a tough life living in an area so saturated by humans with little room to roam unnoticed. If he doesn't really bother anyone just leave him alone, no need to find a way to justify killing him like we do for so many animals under the guise of so called "sport." And before you idiots can call me a liberal, I am a conservative, so save your breath...not all people against the wanton killing of wildlife are not mere liberals.
I think you should call your series "Man Stalks Coyote."
You're reading him all wrong. He's exploring new territory and he annoyed by you for competing with him for the same space. And now he has to give up space and go back to his own territory by going around you.
It doesn't look like he is viewing you as lunch, I think he is quite unsure about why you are getting up and down.
If you saw him pull out an ACME rocket launcher you should of been afraid.
Lol at “he wants to get a closer look cause he thinks I’m hurt now.” Laying down is a universal sign of submission in dogs dude. To them it just means “I’m not a threat, want to play?”

I’m gonna lie down on the ground and show ya what he does: literally nothing.
I think you're paranoid

Attack strategy? Not exactly the attitude of an animal that wants to attack....
Attack strategy? He was just curious.
Coyotes usually stalk their prey before ambushing it.
I believe the coyote is just curious about you. I just came face to face with a coywolf on the weekend. He stared at me and I stared back. Then we both walked away in different directions. This voyote seemed frightened of you.

He looks to me like a coyote who has become somewhat socialized in that built up area and probably has people who has fed him in the past. If he were stalking he would be hunting in a group and clearly behaving in a very loud and menacing way.
Coyote probably just curious and hungry. Just like every dog.
Brings back wonderful memories of my working at Forest Lawn/Glendale. A coyote pack roamed the grounds for food during late night/early morning. Although told not to, and not being afraid of them, I got (2) of the (6) trained to come to me. I'd park the truck, call them by names I'd given them and give them food. AJ ME. coyote attacks are extremely rare. wolf attacks are almost nonexistent.
I had no idea opportunistic curiosity was a hunting strategy. This totally isn't it thinking you might have food. >_
Coyote paying respect to come graves of the deceased that no one else visits 😏
This coyote was not playing, or just curious, or just doing his own thing... he was looking for prey and if given the right opportunity, he would have gone after the dog/lady/cameraman. Awww, he looks hungry. Couldn't you just have fed him a finger or two?
That wasn't no attack strategy. He was just curious. Go watch some documentaries or read some books on coyote behavior.
What happened after this? Did he run off on his own or did you have to chase him off?
The only thing that scares me about this coyote is that fact that he is NOT afraid of humans or the city life. He is probably living on house cats and stray dogs. Need to get him trapped and get him out of there or kill him. When he runs out of cats and dogs he will start on toddlers and old ladies.
+Elizabeth Gaspodnetich Well said!

put "Coyote Attack Best Footage" on youtube search box and we will see who is Mr coyote behaivor
A RUclips video has more credentials than me huh? my 32 years of experience and expertise isn't as good a RUclips video. Huh seems logical to me.
I am a Biologist for the Idaho Fish and Game Department. So don't be telling me I don't know anything about them. I know more than you'll ever know.
a lone coyote won't attack you...be a man!
***** Get a life...dweeb!

all you're doing is keeping my comment popular and at the top..talk all the crap you want...my intelligence trumps your idiocy..
Again this is a sick coyote. He has mange.
you were entertaining it, you were interesting thats all
actually that coyote seems to have some form of mange.
That coyote was just curious about you. There was no stalking behavior. I spent
Video ends suddenly with no comment. Coyote killed cameraman.
This coyote is just paying his respects.
01:22 Digging the dead. WTF RU doing hanging out in the cemetery
From Wikipedia : "Coyote attacks on humans are uncommon and rarely cause serious injuries, due to the relatively small size of the coyote...."
+Gurdulù Wickedpedia doesn't know what reality is. They are so wrong. Used to be maybe but I think they need to update.
laswan s. Thanks for the reply. Surely Wikipedia ignores the fact that packs of coyotes can represent a serious threat to humans. But I think, even if only by hunger, its nature will take him to get closer and closer to man. Peacefully.
When 1:05 you fall down 1:35 the Coyote tries to copy you and lies down.
Getting on your knees is a stupid idea with an animal like that. Being down lower to the ground makes you look less intimidating and possibly even injured. Coyote was trying to figure out if you were fair game or not.
This coyote appears to have mange.
Thing has mange, look at the tail, and how its scratching itself
That's ausome you had one as a pet!
beautiful animal !!!!!
Most people don't realize: this is how zombies get started....a zombie infected coyote bites a human cadaver.
NemeanLion he is curious... on how we taste....
Kiper Rainarch LOL
Sounds like a hunter looking for justification for his killing for 'fun'
sakimano You really sounded like an environmental-liberal there :/
I'm sure I was right. Answer these 2 questions:
1. do you hunt?
2. do you think we should kill coyotes?
Also why are you referring to someone who is anti-killing of animals as an environmentalist as if it's a bad thing? Does that mean hunters are anti-environment? And what makes you think I'm a liberal?
if hes trying to act uninterested, what acting school did he go to?
What's wrong with his tail?
You should take every opportunity to scare this Coyote away. Trying to teach that this area is off limits.
It is unusual for a coyote to approach people this closely. It is habituated with no fear and is probably not simply curious.
Clearly this coyote wants what's underneath those headstones!! No Bueno!!
Lone coyotes wont attack ppl, actually they think you would attack them cuz u look suspicious too
was this shot at the ACME Memorial Park?
"Braaains!" - Coyote Zombie
Take care.
I hope so.
Lay there long enough and lots of things will take advantage of the moment. He's clearly more frightened of u. If ure so concerned, trap him and drive him somewhere he can find real food.
And this coyote seems particularly bold, and in the daytime?!? I would fear illness, if I saw an animal acting like this in daylight.
How tall were the sticks that mark out the graveyard? It might give a sense of scale...
Someone's been feeding that coyote...He wasn't after you but wanted a food handout.
They do this to gather scent, checking the wind direction for a scent check. I've called them with a predator call and they almost always circle first.
Do you go on the Bruce trail too .. any sightings of lynx .. bobcats in Caledon area as hike there often
why were you on the ground? doesn't that make you more vulnerable?
well said. i grew up around them, not only is he not stalking, he probably wonders what ur trip is and whether or not you are a threat. you can tell by the way his tail is down and between his legs. if he as stalking it would be slowly wagging. stalking, lol.
This animal looks sick. Mange from the looks of it. Bare bony tail, constant scratching.
same. i have a fascination with them. disturbs me sometimes when they get hunted on. they are important to the eco system, highly adaptable too.
A normal coyote will run like its tail is on fire if it sees a man. Anything different it's time to be concerned.
Nonsense. He is looking for a hand out.
Is he stalking the same coyote? Lol
was this video shot in Canada? Just curious....beautiful shots, congrats!
