WY Fly Guy I like anything related to the viking maintenance is always interesting trips with the family and places the viking takes you long trips weekend getaways it’s all good
That’s a wonderful airplane. It doesn’t matter how successful you are or what you may be flying in the future you will always remember that plane and how nice it is.
@@wyflyguy114 our Viking had a small red button next to the gear selector you could push and hold in to defeat the automatic gear extension feature. It really hurt your finger if you held it for a long time though.
About 12 years ago, when I had to replace mine, Wentworth said they had a bunch of those pressure switches for the Auto-Axion gear extension feature in stock. They're made by Singer, and I had to send them a screenshot from the maintenance manual, because they weren't sure what I was talking about. I don't remember the price, but it didn't stick in my head as being too expensive. When I had my panel upgrade done in 2017, the shop let a bunch of metal filings fall on the flap switch connections without cleaning them up. That made for an interesting test flight.
Do you need a totally enclosed hangar for the Super Viking or just a covered parking area? I got my complex in one and see them for sale but only have a covered pad, not a totally enclosed hangar. Thanks
@@wyflyguy114 thank you. Just found your Chanel and will be following. ATL area so lots of humidity here. Will search your other videos but any advice on pre buys or shop/A&Ps would be great. Thanks again!
I think I flew this airplane back when it was new. I have to dig out and old log book and check. The Saints are great folks with a rich aviation history in their family. Why not go with Garmin G3X? It would work with your autopilot and keep you from having to use the g5 to work it.
I can’t recall why we didn’t use the G3. I looked at it as an option Ali g with the Aspen. However if memory serves there were some huge disadvantages with it and the Aspen. At the end of the day the G5 on was the best option and using the G5 for my auto pilot is not a huge deal. I wish I could remember what the hangup was with the G3x but it’s escaping me at the moment.
Nice setup and upgrade. What did you find out why the heading would “hard over” beyond the 20-25 degrees? Did the Attitude Indicator Gyro need to be overhauled, and if so did that fix the hard over/over bank issue? Best.
Bad communication between the AI and the AP. Had this pop up again after the new interior and had to have a shop in FL fix the wires sending info to the AP from the AI that were damaged by the yoke controls.
I'm pretty comfortable with the set up now that I have about 50 hours with it. In the beginning it was a little overwhelming switching over to it. It really throws off your scan in the beginning. The presentation of information is so much better. I love it!
The thought had crossed my mind. I’m starting a new business and moved making flying less important for a bit. I’d also like a larger longer range plane.
yea sucks that the Dynon and the G5 don't talk. I got the G500 txi, and the G5 and it talks. I have to admit, though, I rarely care what is going on with the G5, which is there for backup and to make the AP go. I should get more involved with it, to get used to (say) a panel power fail.
I'm surprised that they installed a G5 with your G500 TXi as it is highly recommended that you install a GI-275 with the G500 TXi system and a G5 with a G3X Touch system due to how they all communicate with each other. G500 and GI-275 using High-Speed Data Base and G5 and G3X Touch using Can Buss communication.
@@methosmomomax7470 You and me both. I originally speced the g500, but Garmin discontinued it for the txi. I didn't know about the G3X, it was not certified yet. I think it would have been simpler if the G3x was there. Ah well.
There was a problem with using the Garmin G3X because we looked into that. I think I had not been STC’d for the plane perhaps but can’t remember exactly.
@@johncarr123 I looked up some of my quotes and one of them was for a G3x. I think one of the big problems was the Garmin equipment was substantially more expensive and instead of doing a $50,000 panel upgrade I would’ve had to go with all garmin and that would’ve cost $20,000 more. Trio is supposed to be coming out with an auto pilot at which point I will be able to clean up the rest of the panel removing the vacuum pump and old attitude indicator. That auto pilot is simply amazing and I’ve been talking very closely with the company.
@@wyflyguy114 I think the Dynon is a great suite, but like all avionics mixing them gives disadvantages. I admit I don't know why the dynon AP wasn't a good idea. Glad to see someone updating a Super Viking.
Wow! What a great panel. My Piper Archer is very jealous of your planes panel! Great videos hope to see more of these!
Gus had the same envy 😂. We will keep it up as fast as we are able. Thanks for watching’
Really enjoying your channel.
Thanks! Hopefully I’ll have my plane back soon so I can make new videos.
Man I would love that plane and that setup!
I have loved every minute in it!
Cool plane!
Thanks!
Great videos! Love the Super Vikings! 105 mph IAS for the Auto-Axtion airspeed.
We added a breaker to override that in the event we have a water or rough terrain emergency. Its a great system though!

It’s always fun to do a test flight when some critical systems are not working properly. 😰
Wait for the new interior. It will be near mint!

Do you happen to have a copy of, or access to the DXF file that was used to create your new panel insert?
I don’t have it but maybe the guys at Saint Aviation would have it. They are in Dunnellon Florida at x35
Can I ask how much that cost? I'm potentially buying a '73 Super Viking this weekend and one thing I will want to do is upgrade my avionics as well.
