In this episode I use an Axis in ear headset - I've been testing a few different brands of in ear, and this is my least favourite so far. The mic is... not great, and the wire routing is also poor. I've bent the headset multiple ways, but just can't get it right. You'll be seeing other in ear passive headsets in future episodes.

Sweet. I've toyed on and off with trying out the Bose in-ear option, but have been hoping someone in a small piston would show their experience first. :)

@@WingsOverTO I've tried the Axis, Quiet Tech Halo, and the Clarity Aloft - They all worked pretty well with the out of the box ear foam, but much better with the custom made ear molds. Each has benefit and draw backs, and if I could I'd take what I like from all three and make a fourth version that has the best mic, the best cord placement, the most comfortable head band, and the easiest controls with bluetooth.

The winter hat problem yes. Been wondering about getting the passive in ear too. BTW on the channel thing, maybe consider the float idea a bit. There's a lot of RUclipsrs flying from field to field, and there are people doing STOL stuff on land. We are in the land of lakes and there are places you can only go to with a seaplane. Although I guess with the O300 your useful is likely a pack of matches after floats and fuel.

I found your channel a couple weeks ago when I was searching RUclips for videos on “pre buy inspections” (because I’m in the process of purchasing an older aircraft myself), and I fell down a rabbit hole watching the process you went through over the past few years of upgrading & learning about Mike Victor Uniform. I hope to be as thorough as you were in your aircraft ownership experience. Where ever you take the channel in 2024 I’m onboard. Suggestion… Perhaps do a recap upload of what you’ve done with C-FMVU over the years. What really engaged me with your videos was that you included the not so sexy part of aviation: The maintenance. The perspective that shows all the wrench turning and inspections required to keep aircraft airworthy isn’t shown so much on RUclips

Not a pilot but I really enjoy your content, Glen. Really thought this video especially was neat because you could see that the horizon was stabilized, and as a result it really showed how bumpy it was for you because you could see the movement of the plane in the sky. It really helped (for me at least) put us in the plane with you. Keep up the great work!

What you so on both channels is awesome. I really enjoy both channels and often cook the recipes you do on Glen and Friends. I wonder if a series on cooking food special to the destination/farmers markets orjust groceries bought outside of your home base.
Maybe picking your favourite community cookbook and then visiting that area and exploring could be another series and cross over ( could be fly in or drive in in bad flying weather). What ever it is will I be watching.

In regards to Oshkosh, when I watched that video I was in complete agreement with you not filming. You needed that time to focus on the event and interacting with people. For this year, is it possible to bring someone with you or partner with a local person to do most of the filming for you? That way you can still focus on Oshkosh.

Glen, how about a Duncan Hines style road trip (air trip?), sampling/reviewing the restaurants and diners you try out wherever you travel to this year? It could be a crossover style project between your two channels. Remember, Hines only did brief outlines of each place he went to, so you wouldn't have to go in depth, or bother with buckets of B-roll. Maybe a brief outline of the local airport/airstrip and the facilities that can be found there, then a shot of the exterior of the restaurant, and then you and Julie can give your impressions of the place once you're back in the air. And if you really don't like a restaurant or locale, but you don't want to be mean, you just don't mention it on camera. I think a lot of people would watch it, as you'd be appealing to the interests of both your audiences.

On your longer flight from CYAM to CYOO, I was calculating ground speed, eta to next check point, pinpoint location and looking for fields for emergency landings...lol.

I've zoomed in and out on the Arctic Ocean coast in Google Earth... it would be fantastic to see you guys fly there! Personally, I'd love to see the nitty gritty of planning a long, remote trip like that, but I don't know how much your audience are pilots versus general. I've been following Becki and Chris for quite a while and they really do create amazing videos (and clearly put in a huge amount of effort to do so.) I find it fascinating how human accelerated climate change is opening up the far north at a rapid rate. I'd imagine these small fly in and boat in communities on the passage will change quite a bit over the coming decades as sea traffic and resource extraction take hold. Be a neat trip but a lot of fuel, time and planning.

I hope you and Julie will try to meet up/fly in with some of the other popular Aviation YT'ers for chats about aviation and maybe cooking a meal with them. I do wish you'd get your SEL-I, Glen, because even in the summer, en route weather may change abruptly. IFR currency could really save your bacon. Nicely done crosswind landing. Yours is my favorite aviation channel, no histrionics, just a straight forward log of your learning experiences in getting back in to aviation. I spent 30+ years flying as a military and commercial pilot and my first solo was in a very similar Cessna 172 (T-41) of late ‘60’s vintage. Alas I am an armchair pilot now due to health reasons and look forward to every one of your videos. Ear mold on a non cancelling headset was my favorite, I used one mated to the company issued Telex when I was flying the Boeing 737. They have the noisiest cockpit of all the narrow bodies as Boeing stuck that nose on them all from the 707 on. An old Captain on the 727 told me the thing that limited the airspeed was speaker volume.

I'm looking forward to all the things to come both on here and on the cooking channel! Besides Sorted Food your videos are the only ones I watch religiously. I bet all the long trips are gonna make for some really cool videos, can't wait to see them! By the way, is the hat I bought back then still with you? :D

so even the stationary panel designed by Lyle from Sixpack Aero have been installed?

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar  8 месяцев назад +2

No - we'll install that next winter. The new stationary panel is one of those 'nice to have' elements, but isn't necessary to the core operation of the plane.

Maybe add a kitchen to plane so you can do cooking show while flying. Lol.

A video of your trip to the Arctic Ocean would be great. So far, anything you have talked about and explained on either channel has been very interesting to me. I think you have a real knack for that. Going from three to two videos on the cooking channel sounds very reasonable to me.

If you want to find extra time and are busy with the cooking channel, you could schedule two weeks of guest content from the friends. Take submissions and highlight different friends and their cooking. Tom Scott used to do guest submissions about once a year for his channel when he needed a break.

Nice job on that cross wind landing there Glen. I felt the pucker factor way over here in Oklahoma. I'm looking forward to going along with you on your adventures in 2024.

I like the idea of exploring more of Canada even if that’s just heading a a few hours out and finding a nice camping spot. The trip to northern Saskatchewan looks like it could be amazing and show a part of Canada that most of us haven’t seen or perhaps even heard about.
And as I really enjoy your cooking channel, maybe a Glen and Friends from the campsite.
When you went south to your cousins cabin last year you showed you don’t need a fully stocked kitchen to still make some great food, what could we see from the campsite?
Also, I like the labels that you have coming up now that show things like airspeed, flap positioning, etc.

Thanks for having so much integrity when it comes to ads. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be tasteful (no pun intended).

Northern Canada is very beautiful. I've seen a few videos on it and would like to visit one day. Tuktoyaktuk is the most Northern town in Canada that is still connected to the North American Road Network,

Yes - so many places with Jet only, no 100LL. Or they have 100LL but you need to bring your own pump... but call first because the drums may be empty.

One of your ideas for last summer was to visit some remote communities that are only accessible by air. I was very interested in that. Maybe you and Jules could do a variation of the "$100 hamburger" except that it would be fish and chips where the fish had still been swimming around while you were on your way there. Happy New Year! ❤

Still on the list - last summer the forest fires put a stop to most of our plans. Flying across the North was pretty tough at times.
