What are great serious movies with a comedian as lead? The first one that jumps into my mind is Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
@VerowakReacts I leave a comment on this film all the time. I worked with Robin Williams on a film and when people say "never meet your hero, they'll always let you down" doesn't apply to him... He was such a gentleman and great person. You should watch 'Midnight Caller', 'Insomnia' or 'One Hour Photo' to see him play very different from most films he's cast in. Loved the reaction, by the way
@@TerryNationB7Ironically, I think Jim Carrey playing a comedian (Andy Kaufman) in Man on the Moon is probably his most serious and arguably best work. I couldn’t stand Andy Kaufman and therefore didn’t like the movie that much, but Jim Carrey was astonishing in the role IMO. Worth the watch just for his performance.
The line: “Most days I wish I never met you because then I could sleep at night, and I wouldn't have to walk around with the knowledge there was someone like you out there….and I didn’t have to watch them throw it all away.” hits so hard right in the gut. Especially the delivery of the “And I didn’t have to watch you throw it all away” part. Stellan Skarsgard is at his very best in this movie.

If you are ever in Boston the bench in Boston Public Garden is a popular tourist stop since Robin's passing and was a huge memorial after his death. Finally everyone should have a friend like Chuckie and also be a friend like Chuckie
I'm glad you connected so well with the film. Dead Poets Society is the most obvious serious role that ranks up there with this. I'm certain you would love it if you haven't seen it. Imagine writing that script in your 20s and everything that followed.
Thank you, Was literally scrolling through the comments to see if anyone mentioned Awakenings.. Added a thumbs-up in hope for a reaction to that movie, Even though I'm a bit late lol...
Good Morning Vietnam. Another role by Robin Williams with amazing moments and emotion and humor. My understanding is that he improvised all of the radio scenes in that film.
I notice a lot of people have already mentioned other great movies featuring Robin Williams. I see many have already mentioned "Dead Poets Society" as another great dramatic role of his, but I'd also like to throw "Good Morning, Vietnam" into the mix. It's the movie that really established him as a great dramatic actor, rather than just focusing on his comedic chops.
They went to my high school in Cambridge, I was in Matt's nephew's class and as for Mrs Affleck (Ben's mom) is a fucking Legend shes a pretty awesome lady to talk to I gave her an award once and we hung out at the dinner

I grew up in Cambridge as did Damon and Afleck. We went to the same HS though I was years before them. The lads were played as from Southie (South Boston an Irish enclave... infamous for Whitey Bulger) ). North Cambridge (the home of Tip O'Neil) had the same ethos of TOUGH, LOYAL guys as Southie. I grew up in that milieu and can relate utterly to this film. We would NEVER let our mates down! 21:22 I am glad you said this. People are SO hard on Tom, and it's easy to be, but he's right there filling his role and being supportive for people. Matt Damon, Minnie Driver, Stellan Skarsgård and Robin Williams gave one of the best ensemble performances ever. Any of them could have won an Academy Award. The Unabomber scene may be my favorite. It really illustrates the conflict between those who want to help Will and those who want to use or manipulate him.
Every year on the week prior to the anniversary of his death, I binge watch his movies, and then I save this movie for the day of his passing because I think it’s his best work and it’s my way of celebrating and remembering him
In my opinion, the very best dramatic acting I have seen from Robin Williams is The Fisher King. The film co-stars Jeff Bridges, and I think they were both nominated for Oscars.

One of my all-time favourite movies. Brilliant writing (that earned Matt & Ben a well-deserved Oscar), awesome cast, hilarious comedy, and heart-breaking & heart-warming drama. Cheers and Happy Weekend from Canada. 🥃☮❤
There's a clip floating around of a short video call that Robin Williams made to a dying woman in New Zealand. It was meant to be private. The family released it later, after Williams's death, I think. It's just Robin touching base with the woman, who had always wanted to meet him. The thing is that there is so much tiredness and pain in Williams's eyes, that you can tell he's going through a hard time himself, but he's pulled himself together and made this effort for this woman across the world that no one else was ever supposed to know about. He wasn't throwing himself in front of a train for someone, but it was still such a clear act of selfless love that it feels almost like you shouldn't be watching. He seemed like a genuinely kind man.
Something's that not always talked about (there's a lot of great stuff to discuss so I get it!) but I love Gerry and Sean's non-apology at the end. It's a great show of real friendship; like, the entire movie they are at odds but both in their own way care about Will. Once they've both done right by Will, they're able to mend decades of fighting with six words, none of which includes actual "I'm sorry"s lol
The lines in the scene when Sean talks about his late wife's farting antics were ad-libbed by Robin Williams. That is why Matt Damon was laughing so hard. If you watch the scene carefully, you can notice the camera shaking a bit, possibly due to the cameraman laughing as well. Other great Robin Williams movies are. Dead Poets Society Good Morning Vietnam Patch Adams Hook Mrs. Doubtfire Jumanji.
The scene where he talks about his wife farting was improvised. It was so random, it even caught the camera man off guard, which is why the camera is shaking at that point also. RW was a total genius when it came to improv, and pretty much all films he's acted in are treasures because of it.
Hey V - great reaction! Probably my favorite Robin Williams performance ever! 🥰 For other dramatic roles, I would suggest "Dead Poets Society" or "Awakenings". For a dramatic with comedic blend type role, perhaps "Mrs. Doubtfire" or "The Birdcage". All are amazing performances by Robin. If you have already seen these, I apologize (I haven't checked before writing this). Robin was an amazing human being and performer - miss him. See you again soon, my friend! Peace!
I haven't seen any of them, this one was my first Robin Williams movie 😁 I really do feel like I started with one of his most amazing performances though lol
One of the best movies ever made in my opinion. I wish they had made a sequel. It would have been nice to have seen Will in a new city, impressing everyone with his massive brain, while slowly swimming deeper into the romance with Minnie Driver.
@@VerowakReacts ❤️ I realize you’ve had so many suggestions already, particular ones multiple times. To document my two cents worth I can’t stress enough how impactful the films Dead Poets Society and The Fisher King are. Closely followed by Awakenings and Good Morning Vietnam. And all have some basis, loosely at least, in true stories or people. The World According To Garp is a good film based on an interesting novel as well.
Definitely worth checking out more Robin Williams entries. His range in dramas like these are incredibly noteworthy as he was more known for comedic roles. Insomnia directed by Christopher Nolan showed he can play a sinister character, One Hour Photo is another; albeit disturbed as opposed to competently evil. Devastated when he suddenly passed, although very pleased he won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting.
Robin was truly one of the most special souls and we are so lucky to have been around during his lifetime. I cried for days when he left us and I still can't watch him without getting teary. 'Bicentennial Man' is an insanely underrated performance of his. If you want expressive Robin, that one is my personal favourite, followed closely by 'Hook'
Something interesting about Stellan Skarsgård: Three of his kids all went on to be incredibly notable famous actors. While the rest of his children are still successful in their own right, Bill is known for John Wick, The Divergent and as The Sinister Pennywise in IT. Gustaf for his work in The Way Back, AIR and Oppenheimer. And Alexander you might know as True Blood character Eric Northman, who would also star in the film, The Northman. (Yes, there is a connection there) But yeah, I was quite blown away at the impressive legacy of the Skarsgård family.
Robin's last line 'He stole my line' was an improvisation that they decided to keep in, much like the whole scene about him telling well about farting in his office where you could plainly see the camera shaking because the camera operator was laughing.
I wasn't aware of some of the information about the movie that you added. That was interesting and adds to the appreciation that I already had for the movie. However, the thing that I really liked about this reaction was just what a genuinely nice person you seem to be. Thanks for that positivity, and I hope life goes well for you.
Awesome reaction Vero! Good Will Hunting is one of my absolute favorite films, so I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. If you want to see Robin Williams in more dramatic roles, check out What Dreams May Come, Awakenings, and The Fisher King. If you want to see him as you've never seen him before, check out One Hour Photo. He's also pretty good in Insomnia with Al Pacino. Finally, Good Morning Vietnam is largely a comedy but it has some great dramatic moments as well so you get the best of both worlds.
FYI: The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is a fantastic suspense movie, co-starring Annabella Sciorra (She Ora) Rebecca De Mornay and Ernie Hudson(The Ghostbusters film franchise).
Love your reaction, this is one of the best movies ever, covers so much, from wincing, to laughing to crying and Robin Williams was the best part of it. Matt Damon's crying scene just blew me away. Keep up the great content and stay safe.
Some amazing Robin William's films... - Dead Poets Society - Good Morning Vietnam - Mrs Doubtfire - The World According to Garp - Patch Adams - Hook - Bicentennial Man - Man of the Year
This is an all-time classic flick, for sure. If you're looking for another truly terrific Robin Williams performance, may I suggest Dead Poets Society.
Robin Williams saw the whole spectrum of the world from the happiest heights to the most sorrowful lows, and it broke his heart. Someone else mentioned it already, but 'The World According to Garp' is really good, also 'One Hour Photo' is interesting.
fun fact: back in the day, my dad was a landlord in Cambridge Massachusetts who rented them their apartment where they wrote the script for this movie. apparently my dad dealt with Ben's brother Casey mostly because he was not broke lol
Thank you so much for that beautiful react. This is a great movie that will go into time and still be an amazing movie. It is one of my favorite movie of all time. Thank you again Verowak
Its a fantastic movie and kind of wish we had more of this quality from them. Also rip Robin, always a joy to watch on screen even in the serious roles definitely recommend watching others from him that aren't straight comedys but even those that are! Patch Adams, 24 hour photo, bicentennial man, Toys, good morning vietnam, mrs doubtfire and so on and so forth, just a huge filmography to watch from mr williams alone.
I love finding actors that I enjoy seeing on screen and then learning they have a hug filmography to catch up on. I always thought Robin Williams just did comedy, but I'm glad to have been shown otherwise
1:44 "That's someone I need to see more in films". If you want to see more of Robin Williams, watch Dead Poet Society (1989) with Robin Williams and a very young Ethan Hawk. Another movie is Awakenings (1990) with him and Robert Deniro

One of my all-time favourite movies. Brilliant writing (that earned Matt & Ben a well-deserved Oscar), awesome cast, hilarious comedy, and heart-breaking & heart-warming drama.
Cheers and Happy Weekend from Canada. 🥃☮❤
Another great serious role Robin Williams had was in August Rush! It was one of my favorite movies as a young teen.
Dead Poets Society
Good Morning Vietnam
Patch Adams
Hook
Mrs. Doubtfire
Jumanji.
What Dreams May Come is an amazing one if you haven't seen it.
I'm always astonished how The World According To Garp doesn't get much love. I always liked that film myself, :)
The scene where he talks about his wife farting was improvised. It was so random, it even caught the camera man off guard, which is why the camera is shaking at that point also. RW was a total genius when it came to improv, and pretty much all films he's acted in are treasures because of it.
If everyone could have Robin Williams as a therapist, this world would be a better place.
Robin Williams' monologue is definitely one of my all time favorites 🙌
His delivery is just perfect
I F-ING LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! So brilliant! Robin went from calling him sport to calling him son.
"Patch Adams" was also a great film, based on a real story.
I miss Robin so much
I'll be checking more of his movies, this being my first, I instantly became a fan
Crazy how the writer made his character that he also played a secret genius. Just exploding subtly and nuance
One of the best movies ever made in my opinion. I wish they had made a sequel. It would have been nice to have seen Will in a new city, impressing everyone with his massive brain, while slowly swimming deeper into the romance with Minnie Driver.
Every single actor in the movie was superb. The whole team did amazing
I disagree on the sequel part. Good Will Hunting definitely doesn't need a sequel. It's perfect as a standalone movie.
Sequel culture sucks.
You have such a good heart. I love seeing that in people
Very glad you were able to experience this film. Thank you for sharing your wonderful reaction.
I'm so glad I watched it, it is such a great film

I realize you’ve had so many suggestions already, particular ones multiple times.
This is my "clear the tear ducts" movie. Love this film a lot.
Something interesting about Stellan Skarsgård:
Three of his kids all went on to be incredibly notable famous actors. While the rest of his children are still successful in their own right,
Bill is known for John Wick, The Divergent and as The Sinister Pennywise in IT.
I have not seen any of his kids in a movie lol One day I will haha
Robin's last line 'He stole my line' was an improvisation that they decided to keep in, much like the whole scene about him telling well about farting in his office where you could plainly see the camera shaking because the camera operator was laughing.
His ability to improvise is so damn impressive!!
Robin Williams films I really enjoy are Patch Adams and Dead Poets Society after Good Will Hunting!
You did such a wonderful job on reacting to this movie. Best of luck with your channel dear.
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🤩
Love your reaction, this is one of the best movies ever, covers so much, from wincing, to laughing to crying and Robin Williams was the best part of it. Matt Damon's crying scene just blew me away. Keep up the great content and stay safe.
All the actors were absolutely fantastic in this movie
@@VerowakReacts They really were. :)
Beautiful reaction 🙂

- Patch Adams
- Hook
- Bicentennial Man
- Man of the Year
+Awakenings..👍
you are just lovely, I'm not too well currently so thanks for cheering me up
I'm glad I could help 🥰
Great commentary.
Please always introduce yourself. Your name is so unique. And your smile is AMAZING! Full of joy and love, it seems.
Thank you so much for that beautiful react. This is a great movie that will go into time and still be an amazing movie. It is one of my favorite movie of all time. Thank you again Verowak
My pleasure, the movie will hold up forever, it's just that timeless and amazing
you got that right...@@VerowakReacts
One of my favorite dramatic films. Just great.
It's easily one of my favourites too!
Really love watching your super emotional reactions! Thank you 😊
Well done
The Fisher King features Robin Williams.
A few great Robin Williams films:
The Word According to Garp (Dark Comedy)
Awakenings (with Robert De Niro!)
What Dreams May Come (Tearjerker!)
The Fisher King (with Jeff Bridges)
Edit: The WORLD According to Garp
