    I think the Vikings crushed it! I was expecting the Vikings to give up a couple 1st rounders to move up and take JJ. They moved up with a 6th to get him. They used that saved 1st round pick to move up and take a stud on the edge!

    Spielman is a true gentleman. When the dust settles one must evaluate the efficiency of these trades. The results are great, but the cost didn’t need to be this high. To attain the 17th pick, the Vikings give up the 42nd pick, pick 167, pick 188 in 2024. Additionally they surrender their second, third and fourth round pick in 2025.
    The Vikings Got back 232nd pick in the 7th round. My point is, before you assign genius to this, I would point out that it doesn’t take a genius to ring up your credit card. Understand that the Vikings paid much more for the Dallas Turner pick than they did for the JJ McCarthy pick, however ironic this may be.

  • @alexamerling79

    • @Turtlehands
      @Turtlehands 27 дней назад +11

      I don't think so. But I'm old school I think the rookie quarterback sits on the bench and holds a clipboard and doesn't even play. Not a down. Tom Brady didn't play his first year Aaron Rodgers, several years. That's just the way it should be they're not ready for the more complicated defenses. I think the falcons play cousins for 2 years and then penix comes in? I love what they did. Is it a risk a little bit but of course it is..taking a quarterback in the first round is a risk.. we don't know who the washouts are going to be?? The first 3 COULD wash out who knows.. I'm a New England fan so I hope not, but I had penix number one. He throws the ball down the field very accurately. You give him a couple of weapons and watch out. Teach him how to play teach him the defenses and then put him in there. People are saying that's bad... Not me, I was most impressed with the falcons.

      I couldn't agree with you more re Penix. That kid's ability to be a gunslinger, throw behind the shoulder passes, tight gap passes, his ability to scramble, run, and read defenses is what's so impressive.
      I really wanted NE to draft him. I'm not a Maye fan. When you watch film his passes are more or less standard passes and to wide open receivers, no actual skill. I'm not holding my breath and we will see, though, I don't see him being anything less than a Ryan Tannehill or Chad Henne:(

    Saw Ricky Pearsall play at nearby ASU b4 transferring druing the covid fiasco. May ex ASU guy Prisco is upset at that--we also saw Daniels transfer then, only to later win the Heismann. Pearsall also grew up down the street in Chandler (played at Tempe Corona Del Sol HS), next to Gilbert where 49ers current top QB Brock Purdy played (Gilbert Perry HS). That connection could also have played a very small role..they likely know each other well & have maybe practiced or worked out together... Not a bad pick in my estimation; he has talent.

He threw the ball to them right on Target and with a good amount of authority. Give him some targets in Atlanta and watch out 3rd year put cousins in for two and then he'll have learned the defenses and be ready to play. The Vikings absolutely crushed this round. They were able to get JJ McCarthy while also keeping their other first round pick, and then using it on an high upside Edge rusher that is literally tailor made for a Brian Flores defense. And they still have an early 4th plus a handful of 6th and 7th round picks to work with. If I were them, I'd be hoping that some of these cornerbacks continue to slide and maybe they can poach a guy like Khyree Jackson, Caelen Carson, or Renardo Green at pick 108.
    I also really love what the Colts, Steelers, Eagles, and Jags were able to do. Somehow the NFL let the Eagles just waltz into the CB1 of the draft which was their exact need. And the Jags trading down and still getting BTJ is a masterclass.
    My Lions also did a great job getting Terrion Arnold, but giving up the 73rd pick is a really high price to pay to move up 5 spots. Might have been better to stick and hope Terrion falls, and then pivot to Dejean if he didn't. Oh well, he's a great player and a great fit.

    Here’s what makes no sense to me, if you wanted to take a future QB after cousins is gone you should have taken one 2 years down the line when he has enough time to develop but also won’t have just 1 year to actually get a shot after cousins leaves. You wasted a pick on a QB who won’t be starting for the next four years and the team itself isn’t getting better

I fall on the hopeful side. McCarthy is 23-1 in his college career. Kid knows how to win, makes quick and good decisions under pressure, is an accurate thrower, and doesn’t turnover the ball.

Draft the talent and let him learn from the seasoned talent before you throw the uneducated bag of muscle and testosterone into the deep end of the pool. QB success comes more from education than from raw physical potential. Another great Black hope. Maybe Williams will finally be it. Based on his conduct I doubt this will be.

    Kirk Cousins is just a player, a very overpaid one at that given . He needs to concentrate on being the best he can be! What difference does it make if they notify him before choosing a QB? His job doesn't change, and he has no veto-power. QBs and other players don't want to be GMs during contract negotiations, but they want to be GMs and coaches when drafts are made at their positions and the systems are being constructed. They cannot have it both ways.
    Cousins got his third bag despite having ONE playoff win in his 12-year career. He also got that bag while coming off an ACL injury. I was shocked that anyone gave him $190M with $90M guaranteed, tbh. He's on the other side of 35 and coming off a catastrophic injury, yet his third team in a row has given him a license to print money. The Falcons are paying him like he has a SB ring! He needs to "shut up and throw!"
