Making a Foam jack o' lantern Head
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 сен 2020
- Tired of carving a master piece into a pumpkin, only to have it rot several days later? Why not make one out of EVA? If you cut the bottom you can make it into a wearable jack-o'-lantern. For this build I used 6 mm EVA, 48 mm EVA Dowels, dried pumpkin seeds, hot glue, contact cement, super glue, Plasti Dip, and some Plaid FX acrylic paints. You may also need the following tools: heat gun, a Dremel with various bits, wood burner and xacto knife or box cutter. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more original builds like this one, from shows, video games, or whatever. Please smack that like button, drop kick subscribe and share with as many people as possible.

Oh, I see moulding foam and this pattern in my future....(this weekend.) You may have just saved me som big bucks. Thanks
Glad I could help! Let me know how it turns out
Thank you so much dude! I’ve been planning a headless horseman costume for weeks and I couldn’t find any videos or plastic pumpkins to modify. You are a hero dude thank you so so much!
Edit: I might actually modify this to turn it into a Koro Sensei head/helmet/mask
Glag I could be of help. Let me know how it all turns out
Same lmao
One suggestion: If you're going to make a Jack-O-Lantern rather than a mask, to light it use a short string of 50-70 fairy lights and cut a small hole in the back for the cord. You could also use the smaller non-flame candles. Plan on 2-3 for each pumpkin. Whatever you do, don't use a real candle, as it might burn the foam. And, if you're putting it outside, add some sand or small stones to weigh it down.
Ok. Sounds like you got it figured out.
This is such a cool costume idea! Template can be used for so many other builds too! Thanks Thomas.xx
You're so welcome! Thought I would get a jump start on Halloween decor/costumes.
Thank you so much for this template!!! We've made 4 pumpkins from it now 😁🖤
Glad I could help. 😁👊
thank you so much, i was searching for a pumpkin head tutorial for my costume! greetings from Brasil
Glad this could help. Greetings from Texas
Ohhh you saved my nightmare tree. My need of several different sizes, faces. I,ll be adding see thru fabric inside to defuse inside lighting of each. Thank you, my community kids will love it.
Glad to be of help. Can I ask what a nightmare tree is? Is that like a Christmas tree but with Halloween decorations?
Absolutely amazing!!! I love the detail of the pumpkin rotten flesh with the seeds😍😍🎃🎃
Thank you so much!! Thought it turned up the spookiness a little.
This is PERFECT for my Halloween costume thank you so much for making this tutorial!!!!!
You're so welcome! Glad it could help
Love it. Definitely on my to-do list.
Please do! Would love to see it.
Pretty nifty, but if you bevel your edges before you glue it'll make it easier to get the curves and lines you typically see in pumpkins with far less work
Thanks for the pointer. You live and learn
@@MuchProps yep, I work alot with eva foam, so I'm happy to help make lives easier😁👍
You're a freakin genius 👏
😄 I don't know about that. Just thousands of hours of practice
Thank you for the added history
Just my day job as a teacher trickling into my night job YouTubing
Hey Coach Hanna-amazing work! Watched the whole thing. Your skill with these prop builds and even the video editing is astonishing. Totally professional.
Glad you enjoyed it! Got a few years of practice. :)
A really easy to follow instructional video. Printed out the stencil and had a go myself, unfortunately it's way too small to be a headpiece but it will be a cool decoration instead.
If you are referring to the hole for your head at the bottom, you just cut more away until your head fits. I have a 24 inch around head, I have tons of space inside. I made the hole small on the pattern to make it more adaptable for all head sizes
Good stuff, as always!
Thanks. Always nice to hear
So nice and easy to follow. Thanks a lot!!!
Glad to help. Let me know how it goes
You are a legend! Thank you so much! Totally appreciate the free template, i would have no chance without it. Will definitely let people know where i got the design. Thanks again
Glad I could help 😁👊
you solve all my problems, I live on mexico, and here they dont sell plastic pumkins, the only way of having one was shiping it from USA so it was very expensive, and this video appears like a blessing LOL
Glad I could help. Make sure to let people know where you got it
You make it all look so simple! Great work!
Thank you! 😊 Thousands of hours of practice. LOL.
@@MuchProps Well your fans can then benefit from it! I've already started making my own using your template. Now to decide to make it wearable, or just for display....
Love it! Halloween is my favorite holiday and I always start getting ready for it in September. 😁🎃
Awesome. I've really been enjoying it more the past couple of years since I have been prop making. Such a great time of year. Especially the day after when all the decorations and costumes go on sale.
You really saved my crafting project!
Glad I could help 😁👊
I'm using this for an Enoch from Over the Garden wall costume. Hoping it goes well! Don't think I can get a heat gun so... we'll see!!! Thank you so much for the free pattern. I really appreciate it.
For sure. I'm glad I could help. If you post it to any social, be sure to tag me in it. I would love to see your interpretation of it. 👊
Definitely gonna try this pattern out for a costume next year! Thanks! MUCHprops 👊
It's a fun and fairly simple one to tackle. Seen lots of different takes on this template, each one epically unique
Saludos desde Venezuela, te quedó hermosa, gracias por compartir los patrones ❤️❤️❤️❤️ te ganaste una seguidora 😘
😁👊
Nice job once again Mr Hanna. 👊
Thanks again! 👊
Super cool! Great for the kids.
Totally! Hopefully people use it, and don't forget that it needs to be resized. Otherwise there will be some fatheaded pumpkin head kids this year. LOL
@@MuchProps 😆 lol thanks 4 the bild my kid i looking foward to make one. Tag u latter.
thank you wonderful wonderful... the fruit the fruit!
:)
Dude- LOVE your builds and the templates are fantastic!
😁👊 just happy to share the creativity
@@MuchProps Yeah I know, but you are good at it and I love they way you do the patterns. I rank you right up there with Bill Doran and Evil Ted Smith. 😁👊
Much props, friend! Awesome as always! 👍
Thanks man. It was a fun one to put together.
Looks awesome, super fun idea for Halloween
Thank you 🤗I thought it was a good, easy build.
Como siempre fantástico trabajo
Que alegria ver un nuevo video, un gran saludo
Tan contento de que estés disfrutando de lo que estoy poniendo por ahí.
Thanks for the pattern, how does foam hold up to the elements, I make a lot of yard haunt props and going to try a lot of your builds out doors
Not really sure. Never tried leaving any foam props outside. You would need to weigh it down so it doesn't blow away in the wind. I would imagine if you put an outdoor sealant on it, it would do ok. But foam would not hold up well long term outside.
So very awesome !!!!!!
Thanks!!
Very cool, need a few of those for my house during Halloween
You should! relatively easy to make and will be good for years to come.

So glad I came across this vid. Totally helped me figure out my mask idea for my costume for work XD
Glad it could help. Would love to see it.
@@MuchProps definitely. If I get it posted on my IG, I'll reply with the link so you can see it 😁
That's friggin awesome! I like it
Glad you like it!
Great build idea. Put some black fabric or mesh inside the eyes and mouth for added effect.
I was going to do that too, but didn't have the right kind of fabric.
OMGosh. So glad I found your channel! This is GREAT! Cannot wait to gather supplies and try this! Thanks from your new subscriber!
Thanks for subbing! Would love to see it when you do.
I've been back and forth all week about the idea of what I want to do for Halloween. I've been tossing around the idea of a classic Werewolf for years, but I've also been tossing around the idea of a body horror scarecrow with a Jack-o-lantern head on top. Seems like the universe is trying to tell me something, brother!
Hooray. Perfect timing.
This is some next level shit! I had to pause and add to cart a couple times during the video. Thanks so much for sharing!
Glad you liked it. My favorite part was the pulp bits in his mouth with the pumpkin seeds.
Nice
Thanks
10/10 as always dude👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Big hug from Spain🤘😇
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
I love this!!! And never mind I figured everything out.
Ok. Have fun with it.
Gonna use this template to make my daughter's costume but different character. She wants me to make Peso from the Octonauts cartoon. Thanks my guy.
Sounds great! would love to see it when you are done. Glad this could act as a base.
Oh you just saved my life for Halloween 😍 my last jack-o-lantern template totally failed me
Hopefully this one works for you.let me know how it goes
@@MuchProps it turned out amazing and it looked sooo nice and creepy with the LEDs, it helped so much you've inspired me to put out more free templates for my community too. you are a gem
The pumpkin looks good. I think you should have done the pumpkin guts with just hot glue, & pumpkin seeds are I think they are a darker shade. But it does give me ideas.
The joy of building is you can make it however you want. Have fun with it.
When I finish my masks, unicorn sculpture, dice tower, & miniatures for rpg. I will give it a go. I think I might add a little blood drooling from the mouth.
Live it and I hope you back gets better
Love
Thanks Xander. Back is on a heat pad as I'm typing right now. Have a good weekend
Wow! Awesome project. =)
PS, thank you for the template. =)
Thank you! 😊
put it to good use.
I will. =)
Yep love Halloween! So I thought you'd be interested to know that I'm using your teeth pattern from the joker mask on my siren head prop build. I needed big teeth and I though of you... or your jaker mask I mean. Thanks for that! Happy Halloween!
Very cool! Let me know how it turns out. Glad to see people using templates and adapting them for other projects.
I LIKE IT
thanks. I like you comment. :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!
You can try. You may have a gap at the top that you will need to cover or patch
@@MuchProps Oki, I'll try! Thanks again! ☺️
Awesome job i really like this👊🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a lot! 👊🏻
You really the Best
:) thanks.
Neat Dude! TFS, GB :)
Thanks for watching
Great tutorial!! Do you think 10mm EVA foam would work instead of 6mm? Or would it turn out too heavy/thick?
As long as it wasn't too dense you should be ok. Just make sure to hit it with your heat gun good.
thank you happy halloween
Same to you! thanks for watching and commenting.
This is awesome! Do you think it could be used for outdoor decor and withstand weather elements? If not, do you have any recommendations for additional steps so it could be? I'm looking to create a pumpkin patch and need 20-30 various-sized pumpkins. Thanks!
I don't know how well it will stand up to the elements but I do know that Plaid makes a mod podge for outdoor use. You could make one and test it out for a couple of weeks to see how it fairs.
@@MuchProps Great idea! I will give it a go. Thanks!
@@MuchProps I have one other question: Do you have any recommendations for adjusting the template to make various sizes? Is it as simple as editing in Photoshop and scaling down?
@@TiffinFL photoshop wouldn't be necessary. When you go to print you can adjust the percentage off the pdf. I have a video of how to do it. ruclips.net/video/rfWS8JNyc18/видео.html
Ты крутой мастер !
Это любезно с вашей стороны. Просто люблю быть креативным.
It reminds me of the one that the actors have at Universal studios Halloween horror night
Never been to Universal Studios but I will take it as a compiment.
Much Props It is and by the way you did an amazing job
Hi! This is AWESOME can’t wait to try!! Can you use any color of the 6mm EVA? And the barge cement can you use any of the barge smaller portion? Thanks
Yes of course! The color foam doesn't matter, you just don't want a super dense foam as it would be hard to pull the curved parts together. I've tried a lot of different brands of contact cement and Barge is my favorite. You could certainly use other types, you just may need to apply multiple coats to get a good adhesion.
You should make sea of theives stuff that would be awesome
Have you seen Punished Props Sea of Theives builds?
Much Props thx
Amazing work mate! I’m trying this weekend for a belated Halloween party! How critical is the glass dome you shape around? I’ve struggled to find anything that shape to mould around… any ideas?
Literally anything round. A bowl, vase, bocce ball, in a pinch you can eve just use your knee. If you skip the step it will make it harder for your seams to close up.
very good video
Thanks. Glad you think so
Is there a way to make it more pronounced ? More pumpkiny riges? Just more pumpkin like than a smooth round ball? Help please and thank you, in need of info before Halloween
Cut an outward angle on all you segments. I would think that would increase the ridge
How much foam would we need for one pumpkin? Like how much should I get?
I buy my stuff by the roll and in bulk so I really don't worry about how much material I am using but one roll of 6mm foam could probably yield two or three of these.
Do you have any idea as what I can use instead of foam ? I can’t find it anywhere close to me so just thought I would ask 😊
You could try with cardboard but I don't know how well it would work. The template I made was for foam.
@@MuchProps okey thank you ! 😊
Can you use 5mm Eva for this?
I'm sure you could. May be a little flimsier but the round shape should help a bit.
Please jack skelleton, thanks good day💀
I know that would make my brother and sister-n-law happy. This pumpkin head kind of has a Jack Skelleton vibe to him.
oh wow
Hope full that is a good wow. Sorry that you see the carnage of carving Pumko. LOL. it was a fun one.
@@MuchProps Can I eat him?
@@MuchProps Cannabolism
Well Thomas, thata the start of your Sam Haynes day costume. Now yout just need the rest of his outfit.... Watch some of the old "Ghost Busters" cartoons.
I was a big fan of the Ghostbusters cartoon back in the late 80s, early 90s.
@@MuchProps me too... that's why i thought of Sam Haynes when i saw your pumpkin mask.
Great video, is the template just printed on standard a4 paper? Thanks
Technically no. I use the US standard (letter paper size) which is 8.5 X 11, and A4 is 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 ( which is close)
Awesome....what you tink about adding like a black mesh to conceal tge face and eyes more?
I thought about doing that, but wanted to leave it open to be multi functional, as a wearable head or decoration. Or even putting the cloth on velcro so it could be ripped out
Dont mind me i just doing some mental note for a pump and skid cosplay
Free template in the description. Have at it. LOL.
@@MuchProps i will xd
Can you use 5mm size for this?
I'm sure you could. May be a little flimsier but the round shape should help a bit.
Dang bro you should sell stuff like dis
I do. I have an Etsy shop where I sale most of the things I make on the channel. It's linked in the description of every video. It's basically how I keep my channel funded for the next builds.
Hi what size is the template so that I can scale it to fit me? Thank you so much for this build.
My head is 24 inches around and this has plenty of extra room. So I don't know how accurate a "size" that gives you
solar light were the stem would be to light up without battery or candle.
That's a great idea. Thanks
Unable to downlaod template, please help
are you trying on a phone? It is a PDF file and you may need to download a PDF reader if it is on a phone or tablet.
Wish you also had a taller template!
You could make an extention in the middle of the pattern. Cut a line straight down the middle and add a few inches by taping a piece of paper to span the distance. Then just reattach your lines and voila, a taller template.
Loved the video could you make the doom guy’s helmet ?
Glad you liked the video. The doom guy helmet is on my list... eventually.
I love your jack O lantern. I would like to make one for Halloween.
But I can’t find dowels large enough in France. Where do you buy yours perhaps they ship internationally?
Thanks
Oh! And I love the little facts you put on your videos, I always learn something new.
I got mine from TNT Cosplay Supplies online. You could always just glue up a couple of layers of foam and cut it out of that.
Much Props thanks for the advice I might just do that.
Is there a way to resize the template? I got a big head and wear glasses. It looked like it was difficult to get over your ears.
You can cut a bigger hole in the bottom to accomodate your head. I also have a video on how to resize templates. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/rfWS8JNyc18/видео.html
Can this be scaled larger
I wouldn't see why not. I have a video on how to scale that I did a while back
Can I ask how I would make the template bigger please?
When you hit print, go to more settings, then down towards the bottom you will see the option for scale. Change the setting to cusom and you will be able to blow it up or down by a percentage value (below 100 shrinks it, above 100 increases it)
I see you've been watching my search history for the last 10 years.
Quick... delete history... they're catching on to me... LOL. I have a ridiculous list of build requests and some are more seasonally sensitive. Just glad I could finally get around to this one and in plenty of time for people to make their own.
@@MuchProps I've been building pumpkin masks for years and I've been hunting for a foam method.
How much if you make one for me and my son?
Sorry I don't do commissions. There is a free template for it down in the description if you want to try it for yourself

Could you make a classic iron man helmet sometime?
Do you mean the Mark 1? Or something newer. There is over 80 of them. I have made a couple already.
