  • WHAT IS INJECTOR TIMING? HOW DOES IT CHANGE POWER? DO YOU NEED TO ADJUST IT WHEN YOU CHANGE THE INTAKE RUNNER LENGTH OR INJECTOR POSITION? LET'S TALK TECH.

i would say yes you would have to advance the injector time if you move the injector's 15 to 20 inches like you are saying. by no means am i a tuner or expert. but the fuel has to be there at the right time and if you move it farther away you have to advance it and i would say yes if you move it farther away you should be some cooling effects

I am thinking the factories placed the injectors close to the valves for best overall performance. Cold damp weather and icing are a problem. Racing is another story

they didn't place them in that position for max power (performance), they placed them there for things like emissions, fuel economy, drivability and ease of service

put the injectors in the upper part of the runner instead of the plenum, reduce airflow distribution as a factor. If you run a wideband in each header primary tube i bet you will see some variations in AFR from front to back. Happens on the HSR, probably happens on the TPI. front feed sucks in this regard, tunnel ram downdraft is a better way, IMHO.

the time/pulse transient is just too small tiny little puff of fuel perturbing an already turbulent gas flow dynamic may be squirt down into the bottom of the runner allowing room/flow time

If injected into the plenum I don’t think it will make a change in power. If injected straight into combustion chamber I think injection timing will make power.

Young me would be disappointed with me in our exchange. Had to think through that a minute.

Torque monster add boost ran out speed later on do to runner length hence torque is not as effective as horsepower. They didn't have compression ratio or DI to to support massive power gains. They will always be low and strong. I don't think a higher common plenum would make a difference I could be wrong

Question is how well will the fuel make the 180° turn in the runner? It might just crash and stick to the runner wall.
Seems like the injector would have to fire when air is moving into the runner. OEM fires on the back of the valve just before it opens.

wot injector is spraying high duty cycle so injector timing is irrelevant at peak power di has no intake charge cooling and makes more power than either port or carb injection the real enemy is spraying fuel on the hot surface of runner and back pf intake valve allows more heat transfer and lowers density compared to injecting fuel up top and pulling it straight into the cylinder during intake stroke

I thought the TPI was batch fire not sequential fire injection, so I doubt it would matter. I thought most sequential injection systems revert to batch fire once a certain rpm is reached.
Given that it's batch fire, the injector is theoretically firing fuel into the back of a closed valve already?
Also if it's essentially free horsepower why doesn't the oe manufacturer do it?
Sorry you have addressed some of these points through the video

they are not looking for power, they are looking for other things

@richardholdener1727 Hey, I think a great video idea would be to test a 2004 mach 1 4.6 4v vs a 2005 Mustang gt 4.6 3v. Prove once and for all Ford should have stuck with the 4v instead of switching to 3v! Hopefully have vct active in the 3v for the most realistic comparison!

How much better is the L98 with an intake and carb? I always thought the low rpm was due to the tame camshaft and not the runners.

long runner enhance torque production in lower rpm, mild cam timing cam help
