Went over from Austin, TX without a ticket. Met some very nice City fans that let my friend and I stay with them for several days, and helped me find a ticket in the City end on the day from a lady with an extra ticket (£80!). I had been a City fan since 1991, but this was my first live match. With City's state at the time, I thought it might be my only chance to see them at Wembley. What a game to pick!
Minute 93 is really massive for us.. Dickovs scored in 1999, that brought us to the extra time and penalty shootout , and we go through the Premier League.. Aguero scored in 2012 , that brought us a tittle.. G.Jesus in 2018 that brought us 💯 points (The Centurions) All those Goals happen at minute 93rd
This was the start of everything we have today! But never forget that sign over 'The Stretford end' at Old Trafford or that stupid skip across Maine road pitch by ' David Pleat' when he was manager of Luton Town ! dx
Gills fan here & it still hurts watching this! 😂 But I’m immensely proud of the Gills for silencing the fans who said “Easy win” etc. Showed what a strong team Gillingham had at the time. Proud of City‘s achievements since.
78bullseye Exactly mate this was the pivotal defining moment in City history the turning point which will be remembered by here fans forever ! If they had lost this who knows where they would be now
If it wasn't for this game there would be no AGUEROOOOO! vs QPR. Some of our new fans need to look back on this because if we'd have lost this game I don't think we would've come back IN ALL HONESTY the club was at its lowest it's ever been at the time. Paul Dickov what a fucking legend. Nicky Weaver fucking legend. If only I was old enough to actually remember this game live 😒 the PSG game tomorrow is the reason why I came back to watch this game because for me (if we beat PSG) it may just edge this gillingham game for me cos at least I can remember. Anyways CTID up the fucking blues!!
Most important and the one that changed our future for the better. As you said. If not for what Dickov and Weaver done we'd be just the old usual city.
The next year wouldn't have happened if Gills held on. All worked out well in the end. The noise when Man C equalized is the loudest I've ever heard in a stadium. It was literally shaking.
Gillingham come close to promotion to the second tier many times through my boyhood, sometimes heartbreakingly close, that's why the cheers were so huge , years of frustrating pain finally spewed out only for that to happen, I saw grown men I knew crying on the way home , gutted wasn't the word 🤣
This game means so much to us long suffering blues back then .....what a feeling .....love watching this now but then I'd no nails left on both hands and 1 foot! 😊
Our history and proud of it. I remember that the only way to hear this match back then in Australia was to tune in to SBS radio (multilingual) which brief broadcasted updates in Italian. Still brings a tear to my eye.
Don't get me wrong, the Aguero goal still gives me goosebumps. But there was less riding on it if we lost; we'd still have a team capable of winning the league. If we'd have lost to the Gills in 1999, that would've been it, we'd have lost Royle and probably Dickov, Morrison and Horlock with him. And with that, we'd have been consigned to the third tier for good.
+leopold oh yes, I agree with that, not sure we'd of been assigned to the third forever but it would of Damaged our future massively and maybe would never of got the sheiks interested in our club so we'd of had a miserable future for sure. but that's looking in hindsight so we never knew back then how much that win meant to us.
Reckon if we had got promoted we would of only come back down the following season....needed that extra year to bond and Peter Taylor should of stayed with us after the Wigan season.
was there think if we had lost that day we would have been out the top flight for at least ten years like Forest,Leeds,Sheff Wed we was that close MCFC
How about the theory that Man City actually paid Gillingham to lose this one? Asaba actually tried to miss his goal. Robert Taylor went against the plan and was actually signed by City so they could reprimand him in person and it not look suspicious. The year after this City paid Wigan to lose to Gillingham in the next final as they felt so bad for them. And that debt was wiped out not until 2013 when Man City deliberately lost to Wigan in the FA Cup final

Woah that's badass 😯👌
11:57 I'm sure everyone laughed at him then - but he got it right...eventually.

I'm a City fan, but the Gills goalie pulls his hand away from Dickov's shot for the equaliser. No doubt about it, take a look!
city fans being proud of their rich history:
@billymurray1687 thanks for watching.

what achievments? if not for the arabs they'd be nothing
To all City fans who think winning the Premier League was the greatest day ever - without this victory they wouldn’t even have made it to the Prem
78bullseye Exactly mate this was the pivotal defining moment in City history the turning point which will be remembered by here fans forever ! If they had lost this who knows where they would be now
I think we would have made a go at it again and probably made it, but this whole thing was plain sweet and gave City the boost that they needed.
lol city fans acting like they aren't successful solely because of arab sugar daddies
@@billymurray1687well if your club ever gets a takeover of City's Magnitude. You make sure you protest against it l.
@@craigmullen9046 Nope, we're already the biggest club in the world, nice try though🥱🥱
Spot the City fan behind enemy lines at 05:18...
lol , brilliant mate

+Kevin Richards (Terminator) d'you reckon this was the biggest match in our history?
Most important and the one that changed our future for the better. As you said. If not for what Dickov and Weaver done we'd be just the old usual city.
let's not forget Horlock. :-D
Only football can deliver both ecstacy & heartbreak within a few minutes , how quick things can change.
Still difficult to watch 15 years on. One person's (2nd) best moment in football is always someone else's worst.
we did it mate

They beat Wigan in the Playoff final the following year.

This beats the title win for me. If we didn't have this, we'd have never made it back to the top flight, ever.
I don't think it's quite as exciting as the Aguero goal to win us the title but it's bloody close. :-D

Weavers celebration haha mad fer it!
only 3 on the bench??
*_One Paul Dickov theres only one Paul Dickov_* #Legend
Second goal is similar to that of Agüero against QPR. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
Nicky Weaver classic run

The days when football tops where to big for anyone
Gillingham got the job done the following season though.
And last night they made the champions' league final.
09:18 Was Sheikh Mansour in the City end?
Sheikh Mansour at Wembley wearing a green Parka
Realised Mancs are blue, and the rags are arseholes.
A trophy your club can actually be proud of
