- Turns out you might not even need to build the Trojan horse to get into Troy, but they have a pretty big defence set up to stop you.

I like this missions because it's a bit different that most, in that you need to have good micro to kill the scouts and plan ahead on how to trap them for long enough :D
I build towers around the base and put a Hipoikon as scout on both entrances, so when they come, just move the Hippikon to the base and they will mindlessly follow lol. By the time they decide to retreat, they're half dead and in the middle of the base, then they die :D

My father used to always bypass building the horse in this mission when he let me watch as a kid. I was really surprised that it was such a lesser known strategy when I started engaging with the community. It's nice that the game allows you the option to take a completely different path from the intended route like this.

I have some mental problems with AOM missions : I need to clear EVERYTHING. Trees, animals, destroy all the ennemy buildings...
A mission that would take 25 mins at most ends up taking 2 hours 🤣
This mission was a pain, not being able to build siege towers to get those towers took quiet a time.

On the topic of diverting from campaign objectives, in the scenario before this one (the one where you rescue Ajax and join forces with him), you can technically destroy the enemy town center before building your own.
The AI isn't aggressive until you build your town center and I think they have limited production until then (but still make some units), and have only comparatively few workers gathering resources. There's a path to enter their base with your starting army by taking down just a fence and a tower, which you can do with almost no permanent damage thanks to heroes, and with some micro you can take down some of their production and their town center and still get away with Arkantos and some units. It makes for a fun alternative approach, feels like doing a surprise attack instead of taking the time to rally more troop.
(There's an exploitable trigger in the mission before that one as well, where the AI is passive until you build a town center, but you can delay that, make a port and some storehouses, and collect resources and build to your heart's content. But that's just an exploit rather than a challenge)

Ah, this video inspired me to try this challenge myself!
I did it on EE so Im not sure if the difficult is different but this was my approach:
Since these Trojan snobs dont make heros at all (only the ones already present in the map) I simply went full Manticore + Minotaur (food, wood and favour army you dont even need gold). With enough waves you'll quickly tear through their defenses (use minotaurs to target production buildings). The hardest part for me was realising my human units were just wasting population space.

On cd version when i got it ages ago i was messing with cheats, and it basically skipped mission or two. This waa good as everytime i played AOM and those few missions come i always hated those few missions

i had a go at doing it before watching your video. but the problem is they don't let you go to the 4th age, and you can't build siege. which makes it nearly impossible
restoration heals way faster on units that arent attacking btw
