That's a Grenadier with:
- 14 range
- no negative multipliers against anything
- 6,5 speed
- no extra damage from artillery taken
- an excellent fire animation
Cut the range to 12 and half its damage against cav, art and vills.
Or make Spies counter Outlaws as well
Yea, it's weird how spies don't counter outlaws. Maybe give them a multipler but not as high as them against regular mercenaries. A 2.5x-3x multipler would be enough.

that unit really needs strong negative modifiers against cavalry, so you can kill them with hussar types and goons

they do aoe damage so effectively the damage is doubled against masses of units, so they were dealing like 70 damage per volley against the goons.
they probably need a negative multiplier against cav and shock infantry, also maybe reduce their range resist to 20 like other goons or 30 melee
Then they will be useless and never get used though.
yeh maybe a small neg multi vs light cav could be a good way of nerfing the unit, they shouldnt counter goons, but artillery and infantry is fine.
Hazza needed Ranged Cavalry Caracole from the arsenal for the +2 range and 10% damage, so that he could take better trades. WIthout it, he had the same range as the Grenadaros, which meant he took a full volley whenever he traded, rather than only a portion of Python's army if he had the upgrade.
Played this matchup once. Ended up winning with hus rocket petard by walling the entire map shut spider web style.
Granaderos made the second half of the video straight up unenjoyable. Like damn this is OP
Other than their very A-Historical design, the biggest problem with this unit is that it snowballs way to fast. For some reason it seemed the "how to not make busted units" part of their head seemed to be turned off when they made it. I say busted and not OP because while it can be OP once you get a group aside from that fact their stats are just messed up. Grenadiers have negative multipliers vs Cavalry, Artillery, and vills for a reason but instead of just doing that they gave them every tag in the game to attempt in some weird ways to balance them. The unit should not have been this hard to design--just make a Grenedier that's fast but has worst stats. Light ranged cavalry tag would work so that skirm still "counter" them just like they do grens. And have cav would beat them cause they have bad hand attack or negative multis on their hand attack.
Other then that the best way to counter them is hussars backed by goons.
i once did the old guard with france against the san martin timing and they get absolutely reck
Should have definitely revolted to south Africa. The imp war wagons would have destroyed those units.
And Trek Wagons. Personally, I want to see a game where a single wagon is full of villagers. Bonus points if they keep running away with Yakky Sax playing in the background.

They still insta train if cav train speed was send before revolt + church tech + outlaw upgrade tech

The 5-outpost-and-2-TC defense are just crazy. It's almost impossible to stop Italy from getting into age 4
I wonder how hussar fare vs those. 50 attack, 500HP vs 25, 400. No AOE and they have to commit to fights, but they naturally spread out well and deal a lot of damage. I guess the backup units with the grenadaros stop that from working.

Mounted grens got hard nerfed last patch, not sure this revolt is much good anymore :(
Hey im on the balance team- the nats you mentioned had some errors occurring with the possible new dlc. They’ve been temporarily swapped with other nats until a bug update fixes them at a later date
maybe a good way to nerf without over nerfing would be to add a slight coin cost or increase pop. theyre just too easy to mass
If you added a coin cost the revolt would be over instantly, you dont have vills so impossible to make them really. Someone else suggested a negative multi vs cav and I think that is a really good idea

British's ☕ meta against turtle-y 🐢 builds like this is Greenwich Time ⏱, because it allows a much more heavy boom from more TPs, villagers (saves production time) and being able to click the Age up button later.
So I don't think it would seem OP versus meta play.
theres a common strat now in ranked where someone plays german and goes fast imp into Argentine revolt and have a teammate play french and stay age one and just tribute the revolted player, infinite grenaderos that will just mow down everything... ridiculous
I had never seen Argentina do so well. I swear I saw the granaderos eliminated by skirmishers before.
I had also never seen a monitor ensnared with a lasso either. 😆 That was one strong horse/human duo.

People saying south africa...for getting war wagons...he would be dead before massing them. An even if he maked some ww, i feel hussar is way better, because granaderos got 30% range resist, and huss with cav cuirass and cav combat card is quite tanky. So some huss at the front tanking + some skirms on stagger should work well

Imperial war wagons whould demolish them, they have 950hp and 78 attack iirc, and the multi vs heavy cav, which those grenadeiros are

Maybe make it a (fast?) charged attack grenade and have Mounted Granadaro's melee, like Ethio's Oromo. I like that war or trek wagons might have won it for Hazza. Maybe all civs will have age 4 revolts eventually 🤞The late game variety and risk is so cool. Only Mexico being the revolt civ is neat; if there are any history fans with a fav civ that could pull it off, lemme know.
I like it being a mounted gren, and how to nerf it is interesting, I think the AOE needs go down and maybe the damage slightly

I for one am concerned with the number of potential linguistic banana skins amongst the lexicon of the new dlc civs. I recommend you research the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and undertake language classes in Danish/Lithuanian/Polish. And given it's an OG vanilla unit - please say correctly the word 'doppelsoldner'.

hazza couldve gone for water and destroy those lombards, those gave python so much xp and resources. destroying tcs additionally could postpone pythons eco additionally. monitors could do the work here
