WOW this is so in-depth!! I love all of the graphs and some of the elements that you keep track of like the format and gender of the author. It's interesting to see the ratios for all the different genres. That's something I've been tracking lately to try and find out more about my own reading tastes. This is by far the most detailed and organized tracker I've ever come across - does this get exhausting to keep up with? Thank you for sharing!!
Absolutely riveting! So glad you uploaded this. I track in LibraryThing as it compiles most of the same stats and I can import books with a barcode scanner on my phone. I download monthly and overlay into my master excel workbook to update my graphs. Greatly reduces typing. I love the fact we all seem to be in the same 'nerdy book stats club'.
This was weirdly so relaxing to listen to?? I don’t think my tracking will ever get this in depth but... WOW, more power to you!! You’re so gosh darn inspiring!
Excellent video and very comprehensive spreadsheets. I see in your table you only have Date Finished. Also, a very interesting genre list: I am having a lot of problems with how to classify books. But your video has a lot of ideas to how to update my reading list. Thank you.
I would love to start tracking my collections like this soon! Most of my books are currently boxed up for moving. I track all my reading but definitely want a comprehensive recording of all my books. Thanks for much for this!!!
Wow, goals! I just started using a spreadsheet for the first time this year, and I'm really glad I started! My one problem that I'm having is not knowing how to customize it. I got a template from somewhere on the web and I just can't seem to figure out how to change it up and add/remove things to suit my needs 😂
I'm not sure about google drive versions, but Excel has this wonderful built-in tool to evaluate formulas auditing. You find it under Formulas (up top in the ribbon) > Formula auditing > evaluate formula. It might help you understand where errors come from or why something you add does not work. I'm sure there's a youtube tutorial on this somewhere :)
Those spreadsheets are beautiful. It makes me wonder how my own collection would look, but that all seems like it'll take a fair chunk of time to organize on the front end.
I love reading spreadsheets too! I loved seeing your spreadsheets and graphs and stats. I love your idea of having a recommended to me? Yes/No so I may try to incorporate that into my own, if that's okay? Mine track for a year, but I'd love to try to compare stats between my reading years. Not sure how I'd go about it though as not all years have all the data, but I may have to try some time! I started keeping track of what I read in June 2020 (using GoodReads). I started my own spreadsheet a couple of years later. I keep track of my collection using Book Collector (a program on the computer).
YES! I haven’t got time to watch right now (hosting family zoom quiz night) but I am loving this just from the title. I don’t even care if it’s sad, I’m SO excited to catch up later!
The template is great, I just started using it! The thing I'm trying to figure out right now is how to change the "€ spent this year" stat so that it only adds what I bought in the current year. Right now it's a simple sum function of the cost row, so it doesn't care whether I'm rereading a book I bought last year. Any tips?
I find it all very useful and interesting, but I hate working with spreadsheets, I don't know how to use them properly, I get confused and frustrated and I definitely don't have the patience to learn about them to use them properly like you do. To me, your huge and detailed spreadsheets look like magic! *o* It's something I wish I could do, but I'm painfully aware I can't do at all. T_T Anyways, thanks for sharing your tracking thingies! Magic! ♡
Do you know about Airtable? I was using that to track but I.... forgot about it. It's a good site, plenty of features, extremely versatile, most of it is free and the paid version is not really needed. Airtable has "views", as in I can view books according to say.. genre, series, rating or something like that. It's pretty cool. Mine isn't as detailed as yours but it's fun! I love databases like this.
What happened around 2014? You went from around 40-60 pages a day to around 180-220! Do you really manage to read on average 220 pages per day? That is incredible!
That was the year I did my thesis on romance, so I had to get thru a ton of books! I think I was pretty much reading a book a day that year, and ever since then, my speed has really increased
I was using a spreadsheet (with several sheets) to track mine, but this year, I decided to use some database software where I can have several tables, if need be, where I can track various projects and other stuff and just establish relationships between the tables where I don't have to copy all from one to another table. I had a college course on databases which gave us the basics of SQL databases around five years ago There are a few that you can download and use for free as long as its not used for commercial purposes. I have created databses for both my book collection and my music collection. --Tim
Ok, now I can see the accounting background
omg my nerdy heart is singing over how organized this is. the graphs 😍LOVED this video
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow, this is the most detailed spreadsheet for reading I've ever seen, power to you!
I love your videos!!! I'm so glad your channel exists! Feels like talking to an like-minded bookish friend
Wow this is impressive! Probably too complex for my needs but pucked up some ideas. Thank you for showing this process and spreadsheet.

wow thanks so much> I downloaded a spreadsheet and have been updating it today. You are so kind to share it.
Glad it was helpful!
*bows down* I am in awe.

The depth! The detail! This is my dream reading spreadsheet haha
Haha glad you enjoyed!!
Spreadsheets are my love language 😍

Yes, my genre list is ever evolving! That's why I eventually gave in & created a "genre blend" for ones I truly couldn't classify properly :)
Less than a minute in but I’m so excited, organizing data is my favorite 😂
I would love to start tracking my collections like this soon! Most of my books are currently boxed up for moving. I track all my reading but definitely want a comprehensive recording of all my books.

Go for it!
As a prior actuary, I love me a good spreadsheet too. 😁 Great video!

I'd say save a copy & then just start tinkering with it with a small number of books in it-- worst case, you'll have to start over :)

Spreadsheets! 🎉 I love seeing the source of the stats! 😀
Glad you like them!

Yes, it's a time suck on the front end, but I enjoy keeping up with it. Part of the joy of collecting for me :)

Thank you thank you thank you Mara, you're the best :D I wondered how you did it!
You're welcome 😊 Glad it was interesting!!

Man I love all this nerd stuff. I need to get better about all of my stats 😂

Ooo, haven't heard of it, but will have to check it out

Have you used GoodReads?
Yep, I use that more for the reviewing part than the stat tracking piece :)

Nice! Hope you're enjoying the new tools!
This is kinda cool. But not for me at all. Goodreads helps me what I've read and haven't read yet.
Agreed, Goodreads is a very helpful platform
