A Sorceress comes to Call is one of my favourites as well! I just love how T. Kingfisher mixes such sweet characters and cozy settings with some truly horrific scenes.
Thanks for this video! I always appreciate your book recommendations. I’m not usually a fantasy reader, but you’ve sold me on trying out The Spellshop. I just finished We Solve Murders last night; such a delight! Hope you have an enjoyable holiday season.
I had been hesitant to try A Sorceress Comes to Call because it can be hard for me to get through books with child abuse in them. I’m glad I gave it a try because I grew to just love those characters in the squire’s house, especially Hester. I appreciate the unconventional protagonists that pop up in Kingfisher’s books.
A couple of these re on my shelves to pick up ASAP in 2025! Specifically, The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels and A Sorceress Comes to Call. I might try to pick them up sooner, but I try to reserve the last couple weeks of the year for all the holiday romances I stockpile, lol. But Swordheart was a big hit for me at the beginning of this year, too! I've been meaning to pick up a physical copy for myself, but then I saw the special edition cover coming out next year and had to preorder because it's so pretty. So my shelf can wait a little longer for it
I haven’t even begun thinking of what my favourite books of 2024 are but The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs is a current read that’s a strong contender so far!
I have not read much fantasy, and it typically doesn't appeal to me, but I may try Swordheart. I haven't tried T. Kingfisher, either. After Christmas, I am going to try to quantify my TBR of owned books. You set a good example in that regard. Thank you.
I read The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels in January. It was my first Hallett and she has become one of my favorite authors over this year. I'm always so impressed with her books. I finished The Examiner yesterday and i still don't know what to say. Such a mindfuck of a book (in a good way)
Maybe I will give The Spellshop a try. I really didn’t feel like much of anything happened in Legends and Lattes and same with The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet which I couldn’t even finish. But I did like The House in the Cerulean Sea so maybe there’s hope for me. 😂
Adding A Problem From Hell and Hundred Year's War to my TBR. I really enjoyed A Sorceress Comes to Call, We Solve Murders, and Alperton Angel's. They were all hits. Thanks for the recommendations. I almost DNFd The Spellshop. I just assume Caz's and Meep's backs hurt from carrying this book. I REALLY disliked the main character.😅
I’m definitely intrigued by that Janice Hallett book. Most of the mysteries I read are old, it would be good to find some recent ones that appeal to me!
"Smallbone Deceased" arrived at the end of the reading year and easily vaulted to my top 5. Strong hook, great (fair!) mystery, and brutally honest exploration of the horrors of office gender politics in the mid-20th century. Planning on reading more Michael Gilbert in 2025 as a pseudo-Christie.
Easily my fav thing I read this year was T Kingfisher's paladin series! I'm obsessed and I usually could care less about series. I just love this series of horny yet wholesome paladins!! haha

God bless you for holding the books up at the beginning of talking about each one so I could take a screenshot and get the authors name in there 🙌
Loved Swordheart and just got A Sorceress Comes to Call and am really looking forward to it!
Would love a list of your coziest book recs. It's all I'm in the mood for right now! The Spellshop is on my TBR so I'll have to pick it up soon
Happy New Reading Year!

Couldn’t agree more about Garlic! I went into it expecting it to be lovely and sweet… almost a year after reading it and I’m still obsessed! 🥰
Putting a lot of these on my TBR
I purchased The Spellshop based on one of your previous videos, looking forward to reading it on Christmas day. It's so pretty I couldn't resist.
I’m so glad it caught your eye! It’s a lovely read!

I'm here for the T. Kingfisher representation!

Great video Mara and the clothbound penguin books are so beautiful. Enjoy the holidays and thanks for all your true inspiration.

Yay I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I just ordered The mysterious case of the Alperton Angels of Janice Hallett in Dutch. I wonder if I will like it as much as you do.
I purchased it as well. I plan to have it as my first 2025 book. I’m using it for a reading prompt in a challenge I’m doing.
Eeeek Garlic and the Vampire! One of my favorite reads last year! And I finally tried Janice Hallett this year and want to try more of her work!
Swordheart is one of my favorites:)
Loved this list of books!
Goose-down-feather reading. This is the genre I always want.

Is there a best order that I should read Janice Halperton in? I'm new to her.
I've added The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels to my wish list!
I looooved A Sorceress Comes to Call 😍 tho gd it hit close to home 😭the ear biting scene was everything tho 🤣👂🐴

Did you read Nexus from Harari?

I normally love Richard Osman, but this one just didn’t do it for me.
Same 😑
