My son who is the sweetest, non violent child you could ever meet and his medicine was changed and he literally almost stabbed my ex mother in law but thankfully his dad stepped in quick enough to stop it! He couldn't explain why or what happened. The doctor immediately stopped that med and he has never ever acted like that since and he just graduated highschool.

I can confirm the issues her daughter had. I was on ADHD medication (Adderall) in college, and as my doctor increased the dose, it made me extremely angry all the time, typically for no reason. I screamed at friends, I screamed at family, I even got into major arguments with my professors which led to me getting suspended. Then when I discovered it was the high dose that led to that behavior I immediately cut the dose in half, and those issues stopped. I feel for this family tremendously.

As a therapist I’ve learned that if ADHD medicine isn’t working it may be a sign of another disorder that can mimic ADHD such as trauma. I’ve seen adhd meds work very well with true adhd and for others have bad side effects. It’s so important to get the proper diagnosis. Also, if you notice negative side effects you should def let the doctor know so they can either change the dosage or try something new.

Yes! I'm a nursing student and in pharmacology it's emphasized that medicating a misdiagnosed patient can be detrimental, regardless of the medication. ADHD presents almost identical to other diagnoses. For someone with true ADHD, at the correct dose, it would never cause this. Something deeper is going on and scapegoating ADHD medication is harmful. Those of us with ADHD face enough stigma about medication as it is.

@ movementislife they can both be *highly* addictive, and both can be dangerous to both take and come off of. I’m glad you didn’t experience difficulty coming off ADHD meds, but countless others do. It can be life threatening not only to the one taking or coming off the medication, but also to those around them. This comment section is filled with people sharing their experience of it happening to them or their child in relation to taking or stopping ADHD meds.
There is a reason ADHD meds are sold as street drugs. They are known to be highly addictive. That doesn’t mean everyone who takes them becomes addicted or has bad or life threatening/dangerous experiences, but many do, and children are no exception. It’s chemically altering the brain, and in some individuals, such as the heartbreaking case discussed in this video, it can have VERY dire consequences, and that is never something that should be downplayed.
Those taking these medications, or the parents of children taking these medications, need to understand just how volatile and dangerous the risks can be, in order to adequately monitor the situation to prevent stories like the one in this video from happening. Unfortunately not all doctors take the care and attention to explain these things, and many write scripts without giving adequate warning or preparing the patient/parents for what could occur, and just how catastrophic the risks could be.
Fortunately many doctors have stopped prescribing ADHD meds like candy (like was the case when I was growing up; thankfully I never needed them, though knew others that did and had horrible experiences), but there are still doctors who do treat it like candy and give it freely without proper warning or consideration. I pray this brave mother’s heartbreaking story opens the eyes of parents who have children on these medications or are considering putting their children on them. They CAN help some children, and sometimes are the only option to help a child function, but oftentimes there are other solutions that should be exhausted first, and if ADHD medication is tried, it needs to be done with extreme hyper vigilance and awareness to what can go wrong, and just how quickly it can happen.

Chose to stop the meds just to try to be off the meds. Who knows we will never know the truth on how she was taken off the medication by her mom. Such as was it abruptly and le if specific warnings directions were followed as doctors always warn and labels and pharmacists warn too. This could have been prevented by simply following protocol…. Science may point out that the meds were stopped abruptly after 5 years and the off on choice the mother made isn’t good. Common knowledges. Simple internet search . Those meds are potent!

I’m a Retired Navy Vet, who has PTSD/MDD/BPD/Anxiety along with insomnia and the medications I’ve been on throughout 14 yrs can be very tricky to your mental psyche if you aren’t fully aware of self and reality. I’ve had to stop taking some because of the intense suicidal ideations, racing thoughts, verbal outburst, manic moments to night terrors, flashbacks and sleep paralysis… There’s nothing more horrifying than being afraid of yourself, knowing what damage you can do to things, others and yourself.
We all must educate ourselves on these medications that are prescribed to us, because knowing the side effects beforehand can really help and be instant warning signs to stop taking them. The withdrawal is a hard battle, which I’m dealing with now. It’s just that the brain/mind is a very powerful thing and We have to outsmart it.
I’ve been in therapy for over 12yrs and I highly suggest having a therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker. It’s vital and beneficial (in my opinion). Being transparent/honest with myself has worked in my favor because I WANT THE HELP & I’m Fighting for MY LIFE. It’s an internal battle and I’m praying for ALL who are Fighting too.
Those who have loved ones/friends who are battling mental health I beg you to be a listening ear, check-in on them, get them out the house and around people, let them know they are loved, wanted, needed and have a purpose. Please do not make light of what they are dealing with…Trust me, this all makes a huge difference. #MentalHealthMonth

It is the real question. I myself and professionally, have seen patients go crazy. However, like some other comments in here, the fact that she threw the knife out the window afterwards requires some sort of thought process. Despite my profession, I don’t proclaim to be an expert by no means. However, most that lose control would not have the mental capacity to throw away a weapon.
This video certainly triggers an emotional response from the side of the mother. Hence, my quick emotional response. Upon further reflection :
We are only getting few details here. Of course, for a parent, it would be much easier for them to believe that this was 100% due to meds and not anything else.
Either way, it’s an extremely sad situation. For all involved. I cannot imagine what this mother is going through right now. Loosing a child is painful enough, let alone at the hands of the other child.
It raises an ethical question. Someone who is heavily influenced by drugs or alcohol would be rightfully held 10% accountable for taking a life. Im assuming this would not be any different.
I do have a co worker, who has a child with ADHD and she has explained to me how much pressure teachers put on her to medicate their child. I can also see it from the teachers’ perspective that the resources are lacking with regards to children with individual needs and support.

She was fine w the meds for 5 years before the mom and girl decided to get off the meds just to see how she’d do… other issues at hand. Horrific situation.

Tweens/teens are self absorbed by design. At 12 and being given so much responsibility in babysitting a 9 and 3 year old, I'm not surprised:
_"All teenagers are in a developmental stage that could be seen as self-centered and insecure. Their work is to develop themselves, which means that they're so focused on themselves that they don't have a lot of mental energy left to notice how they're affecting others, even if they're actually empathic people. They greatly value their peers, so they put peers first, and it is easy for parents to feel like their teen doesn't even notice the parent's feelings. All teens are still figuring out a realistic assessment of their capabilities and where they fit in the world. All of them are still developing good judgment and tend to be in denial about risk."_

At first i felt outrage as a mama...knowing what she did...but the longer it went on....the more broken I became for not only her but the whole situation.

If a 12 yr old is cursing like that because of what is picked up online, then online use should be monitored strictly by the parent(s).
This is a tragic and cautionary tale of guarding your kids in all manners and raising them in the way they should go cannot be taken lightly. If so, there will be a root that is harder and harder to get out once it is allowed to grow.

Nope, not true. I’ve been a psychologist for 18 years. ADHD medication like Adderall can cause increase in irritability - I’ve seen that with some patients, but it does not cause someone to become homicidal unless she already had a predisposition to violent behavior/antisocial or sociopathic personality traits, and the effects of that medication definitely do not last “years” after being off of it
I feel for the mom and I can understand her having to make excuses or try to make sense of her daughter murdering her son

I know because My husband has it and I've been studying about it and going to his therapy sessions with him. Not only that but the young girl could probably also have something else that they are not aware about. Like for example my husband has ADHD and little of bipolar in him he takes Adderall for focusing and getting through tasks while he takes a night time pill where that one helps with his mental stability and emotions. I'd look at myself in the mirror crying with out of control emotions. God dammit. Not another misdiagnosis. I’m Bipolar Type 2. But I’ve heard HORROR stories like this for BP1 (note it’s rare). Meds turning you into HORRIFIC RAGE. It’s horrifying. Adhd meds & SSRI’s alone with bipolar can trigger HORRIFIC MANIA. Please know this. Negative BP symptoms can include: uncontrollable rage, anger, irritability, psychosis, adhd like symptoms. God I feel so bad for this mom

3 different dad's, there's issues at home... please understand that she had these behaviors way before this medication Intuniv. Intuniv doesn't cause psychotic episodes. It actually helps with ADHD.
She was neglected, unloved, abused, ignored from home.
Her brother had issues as well. Mom took him of school to home school. Rage issues.
This mom is blaming the medication Intuniv.
She should have been in a mental facility. The ADHD meds are not going to make somebody homicidal like that. The daughter talked about stabbing her brother weeks prior to the meds she's on.
Has nothing to do with the ADHD Meds.
Look up her dad Levi Lyda, a psychopath. Mom is a Narcissist. Her behaviours are learned from home. But mom is in denial. Her daughter should have been saved and loved... looking after her brothers... something's wrong.
I've studied these behaviors in University.

@@lmn1966 If that were the case, I would’ve been psychotic. It’s the meds. I went through a school shooting, abuse, parent dead, severe childhood financial stress and poverty, and more. I even had my dad’s ex try to kill me. I will promise you this is the medication. Or every other kid would be having psychotic episode. What you described is not uncommon for trauma levels, it’s mild compared to the shit I’ve seen from my support group

Yes the answer is in the family dynamic. I wonder what all she was allowed to get away with because of the adhd diagnosis.

@@KG_614 These doctors don't tell the parents to put in some punishments and consequences. It's easier for them to put the children on medication, and over diagnosi with adhd. Also many them exhibit sociopathic behavior which they still label adhd. Then when the kid harms people everyone is surprised.

Her stepfather allegedly had tortured and unalived one of the family cats, and then, while in prison, beat up his cellmate two nights in a row, causing the cellmate to have brain damage. So there were definitely other things going on in her environment, at some point or another. It’s just horribly sad and awful all around.
