Having gone on a spending spree the past 3 years on everything Freewing, I was STUNNED they put the Dynam/Eflite/Save Money at All Cost style landing gear. (With no opportunity to upgrade) It also surprised me that Freewing didn’t go to the trouble to make the nose cone magnet.
My thoughts- FMS is the better of the two Yaks. And because of the gear and slower speed, it’s a perfect first jet. (Just match it up with a Spektrum 630 series receiver for AS3X & Safe)
I’m not sure who the Freewing Yak is suited for.
I’m thinking someone with an unlimited runway and an over abundance of 6s 3200 to 4000 mah and have lost the will to live.
I wasted 3 years being the Jehovah’s Witness for everything Freewing. They really let me down on this jet.

As of late July 2024, the cost spread between the Freewing vs the FMS Yak is about $100 ($101 Motion RC vs FMS store). That is a VERY powerful argument in favor of the Freewing on the condition that the flight characteristics are otherwise pretty similar. Both seem to be great flyers though.
I have both of them as well. I love them both. This review is spot on 100%!

I really like the gear on the FMS. For a grass runway, that’s all the difference. $269 vs. $229. I will still take the FMS.

Great review as usual.After listening and watching ,I would come down on the side o Freewing in this case.
Retracts not an issue . Wire preferred for taking off from grass.
Most clubs in the Uk have grass runways. Ps (would normally pick Fms over Freewing. )
Just maidened a FMS today. 70mm inrunner is amazing, 5 minutes of HARD flying on a Roaring Top 5000 I shoehorned into the bay. FAST. Superior gear and motor to the Freewing plus FMS finish is consistently better than Freewing. Not sure why anyone would buy the Freewing with wire gear and an outrunner... I will also say the sound... I don't know what you guys heard but the sound on this inrunner is incredible. I have 4 other jets with FMS inrunners and this one sounds the best BY FAR. Probably the fat airframe and all the foam muffling the noise of the actual inrunner and just letting the "whoosh" of the 12 blade fan go.

I have the FMS Yak and absolutely love it. The retracts are freaking awesome. I fly it with 3300’s and 4000’s. The 4000 is a tight fit and makes her a little nose heavy, but it’s doable.

Get freewing airframe with servo installed and shove FMS EDF in it. You get the best of both airplanes
Finally going to pull the trigger on the Freewing ARF version from Motion RC. For $169, that is really hard to beat. You couldn't buy the pieces separately for less than this. Plus, if you already have a 70mm EDF lying around (which I do) and already have a TX and RX... Also, I'm going to try the old school Siren Whistle instead of the Nerf/Dollar Tree football whistle. We'll see how that goes 😁

Great review. Not bad flying either. Just a not to FW owners of the Yac130. Fms retracts will not work on the FW. Love both jets.
But there are Struts on ebay $35 that will fit just fine
I would say it is more of an illusion with regard to speed - The higher KV motor of the Freewing will make it sound like it is really moving every time. The in runner is more efficient hence they run lower KV, so it "sounds" slower. Watching the video there really isn't anything in it, if you want to be scientific I would almost suggest putting a speed radar on each one doing a high-speed pass🤷♂️. I love the fact FMS give you all of the "fruit" out of the box (decent landing gear etc), I think it stinks how freewing charge more then expect you to pay for ordinance/upgrades. The one thing i will give freewing though is that you have more room for battery options-i only bought a freewing F16 because the FMS one had such a small battery bay and i didnt want to have to buy a bunch of 6s 3300's when i already have a bunch of 4000's.

Wow, Great comparison. Now even more in doubt which one to get..LOL. Is it possible to put the FMS landing gears on Freewing? I really hope that Freewing comes up with their version 2 for Yak 130 70mm. They did pretty nice with the upgraded BAE Hawk (I recently bought one). Hoping something similar for the Yak 70mm.
Unfortunately they don’t fit but the freewing still flys fantastic it really is a hard choice just get both like we did lol
Also... If you dont calibrate the throttle on the FMS they will only give you about 90% throttle... no way its slower than the freewing... seen them compared in person flown at the same time. FMS is a rocket!!

If I had to buy just one, which one would you recommend? Regardless of the landing gear, I like aircraft that have good flight and are fast and easy to land.
By the Freewing, and upgrade the landing gear for $40 on ebay

I do not have safe it was a AR637T but with the gyro turned off if i remember correct
U can tell that the freewing has the upper hand but u do have to give props to fms for those upgraded retracts also what type of mic is that on the ground?

Your a great pilot These edfs are hard to fly. Defiantly need a paved runway. Especially for free wings F35

Hey Wesley. Based on the gear, would you say one would better on the grass than the other? Have you tried them on grass? Thanks for the great comparison videos.
To be honest I haven’t tried them out of the grass but I think both would be fine as long as the grass is freshly mowed
The Freewing will take off and land on grass. Just use flaps w throttle management, let it roll parallel to prevent any bouncing.
The retracts are lighter and strong.
*make a cheater hole to reduce stall at low speeds.
The suspension retracts is more forgiving on grass w the FMS.

That's strange because 2150kv motor from freewing has less thrust then FMS motor

Wow, didn't think the suspension on the FMS would make that much of a difference.. seems like if they sold the Freewing with suspension it would be the ultimate jet!

my fms 130 clocked in at 130mph ! but does not have the retracts ?
The original version had the wire gear retracts, Version 2 had the CNC metal retractable landing gear. I had mine before V2 and bought the upgraded Retracts.
Which one is better for speed or duct sound?
Before I had a Brownout, I clocked my FMS Yak-130 at 127mph with on-board GPS.
Can the fms yak take 5s ?
I don't think they make the FMS Yak anymore, when I flew a friend and it was definitely screaming fast!

@@MerryBoozerRC Interesting After I bought my Freewing Yak 130 I went back and ordered the landing gear like the FMS one from the upgrades tab on the Motion RC Yak and I have them installed in my Yak. But you are right they are no longer there. My appologies. I bet they could be found elsewhere though.
Sotm please verify before stating such claims. MRC doesn’t offer upgraded suspension struts on the FW Yak130 70mm. The FMS gears unfortunately do not fit in the FW.
@@kevinferros4797 Please read the other replys before you make critisizing statements. I had bought them from MRC in the past but I stated they no longer carry them!! I have a set installed on my Freewing Yak 130 that I bought there!!

I like how the FMS has no. 01 on the nose and 130 on the back, and the Freewing has no. 02 on the nose, and 131 on the back.
Also, did you add the missiles to the Freewing? All hobby stores I checked do not have this "accessory". Thx! Excellent video.
Yes I did I believe they where the F-16 missiles I have piles of old bombs and things I just never know when I will need them haha

Its so weird.... the FMS is insane fast!!! Better plane all together in my opinion. It needs and can fit a 40c 4000 which makes it much quicker than the Freewing bird. Landings are also so much better with the fms. Fly to two together and see what I mean!! Its much faster than the freewing!!

@@gooniac33 After all, besides the landing gear, Fms has better speed and thrust, right? I misunderstood that the kv was faster because the freewing side was higher.
I won’t buy an FMS plane because nine out of ten you get a bad component on my freewing yak I get 4 minutes mixed throttle with a 3300 FMS can go kick rocks
