love your thoughts! i get caught up in my perceived difference between drawing and painting. "i only drew today," "i wish i could paint" etc. Putting painting on a pedestal which just makes it more inaccessible. Also, that is a beautiful painting!
Yeah absolutely. Its an artifical distinction. I do think that oil paint has a special quality about it, but i dont think that comes in to play so much when actually painting. And thank you so much.
I used to think of drawing and painting as being two separate things until I learned both, and saw my paintings drastically improve as soon as I started thinking of them as drawings with thick lines. Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking along these lines (pun slightly intended). And yes! Give sculpting a try someday because, as a sculptor myself, I bet you probably do know a good bit about it just from painting!
Im so glad that what i was talking about resonated. I do think there's something even deeper in the expanded meaning of the word drawing too. Thanks so much for watching, and yes. one day i will sculpt.... (but its not today)
It's an uplifting idea to see painting as 'a way of drawing' only it's in a different medium and once you have the skill of seeing/drawing the ball gets rolling . It's always enjoyable and stimulating to see your brushworks turn into great paintings. and to hear your thoughts . Thanks for sharing .
For me, painting and drawing exist on continuums between linear and formal; wet and dry; descriptive and prescriptive. Culturally, the discussion changes depending on language; the French word to draw (dessiner) implies a compositional plan. Finally, for non-European cultures like China, oil painting is a new concept and so the distinction soft.
Yes. I like. I must admit I came at this video just talking from my own perspective and learning over the years and did not take on much research into other perspectives / cultures /languages. This is really interesting and I like to get into it a bit more. Thanks!
Thank you! Yes I think its something to do with how much we all enjoy that moment of sun on our face in the cold. I think it resonated. Thanks for watching!
