*Audio!* So the sound is a little tinny in this one because I had an undetected mic issue for the second time. Good news though! This time (unlike the last) I was able to reproduce it and track its source (in the mic assembly itself) so I know that getting rid of the mic itself will get rid of the problem. I like knowing the "why" of things. Anyhow the mess-up threw some really broad-spectrum, but low-volume interference in the audio track that was so subtle that my cheap monitors didn't pick it up. I was able to find & kill about a dozen incredibly narrow bands containing 90%+ of the unwanted sound, but that left the thin slits that cause the slight oddity you hear, if you hear it (last time folks didn't even notice). In addition to switching to a newer/backup mic for every video after this one, I've ordered a new set of monitors to hopefully help better detect future issues before I spend hours polishing off a complete video!
The old version of Luke straight up has better printing than the version from today. That's pathetic. There's no excuse for that with all the advancements made in technology.
I'm also disappointed that they printed that printed "20th anniversary" on the minifigure's back. It ruined the fig as a normal toy and makes it into a collectable. The stand was fine, why did they need to add that to the mini figure?
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi To make it into a collectable. They wanted to differ it from the classic Lego Star Wars figures and make it somewhat special. (It also prevents people from selling them as the ORIGINAL figures even though they aren't.
@Obi-wan Kenobi It's to appease the collectors because they'd get cranky and complain on twitter. If you really want you can scrap or scrub or otherwise remove the print from the back cause it is rather obscenely sized
I’ll find some in between spots, which is not quite legal, but (Palpatine voice) I’LL MAKE IT LEGAL, I’LL USE THE SAND SIDE OF THE FORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea they were making these anniversary sets! I love them! As a guy who grew up on the old Lego Star Wars video games these sets make me so incredibly happy! These older designs and mini figures are actually how I imagine some of the series's most iconic characters and vehicles! When I think of the podracer for example, I usually don't think of the movie version, I think of the lego version I played in the game! And I really miss the simplistic design of the old minifigures. Those were some of the first Lego guys I ever saw, bought, and played with. I will defiantly be buying many of these new sets to relive the magic that got me into Star Wars in the first place. I really do hope they make more of these 20th anniversary sets!
I would have liked a third regular Phantom Menace minifigure to get the full $30 value. Perhaps a Qui Gon or a Watto. Just having Padme to the side of the vehicle seems a little silly.
Yes, I was just thinking how easy it would have been for them to throw in an extra figure such as Qui Gon (but now that you say it, Watto would be even cooer) and increase this set's appeal x100.
If you want Qui Gon and young Obi Wan, you can easily get them in that small “Duel on Naboo” set along with Darth Maul. If you wanted Watto, then you’ll have to spend a little more money on the secondary market
Wow, you got those reviews out fast, when you said you’d finish them up quickly I though a few weeks, but when I saw all of them released within about a day, I was impressed, loving the content, thanks JANG!
C R Bricks I always look forward to new content from Jang but was alas surprised by the upload speed. He seems to be uploading more then I can spare time for in the day. Oh well it is still great. Only thing I hope is that he does not burn himself out thinking he has to keep releasing new videos for us as much as he has done recently.
Pod racing was my favorite part of this movie as a kid, I always wanted to get a Lego set with those racers, sadly they retired those but the time I could afford it
It does kinda suck that they just recycled the Anakin from the Naboo Microfighter. He's supposed to have a grey helmet with blue printed detail during the podrace, the brown helmet is the one he found in the cockpit of the starfighter. Minor detail, but still.
Would’ve been nice if they threw in a Pit Droid as there was one in the original set and it would’ve added some more value. Otherwise I like it and I look forward to getting it myself.
I'll be picking this one up. Unlike most of these, I need all the (standard) figures, and I liked the podracing scene. Wish they'd make more obscure ones, in fact.
One of my fave sets from when I was a kid. Had the original. Just rebuilt it tonight. Only 3 missing pieces and the pipes. Can't wait to get this and display them side by side. Important set for me.
I was on the fence about this set, but seeing how much you enjoyed it given your own biases going into it, I'll defintely think about picking this up once it hits my shelves. Thank you! The details on how enjoyable the b uild was sold it for me.
Huh? no way. The new medium moving legs are fantastic, and way overdue. We must get rid of all the old nonmoving, non-posable, non-sitting stumpy "kid legs." they are an utter failure and have always been an insult to the design of Mini-Figures, which are action figures, not dolls. The stump-legs don't even look right with the adult-sized arms. Buh bye and good riddance, nonmoving stupid "kid legs", don't let the door hit your pathetic non-butt.
Those beige pins used on the handle really should be grey, it would mesh a lot more with the clear Technic bars. I don't know if they still make the grey ones, but I think they'd look better.
I just bought this and the Pasaana Speeder Chase at the LEGO store today and got the 20th Anniversary Obi-Wan figure (along with of course getting the 20th Anniversary Luke with this set). I now only need Vader and Leila to complete my 20th Anniversary figure collection. I am pretty excited to build both sets.
I think beyond the quality of the "collectible" figure the set itself is great, especially if you compare the kind of pieces and the size of it at 30 bucks against that red TIE fighter at 70. Just looks like you get more (other than one fewer figure).
In fairness, I think they chose tan for the pins and the struts next to the engine to be a facsimile of the desert sand. More transparent pieces would have been nice though. Dunno about how the mixing and matching of the two different types of plastic between opaque/transparent pieces would have worked out for their kid-friendly friction rules though... Nice model, good review; thanks!
Planned to get this set but now it’s 25% off at my local stockiest I’ll get a couple. It was £25 now it’s £18. Getting Father and son in the same set is pretty cool
Spades Noir Probably a better colour then anything else that they could have done. Does not look bad and I think that they were thinking of the fact that it really is in a desert environment.
I wonder if Lego's recent printing issues has anything to do with them trying to be more environmentally friendly? I'm not an expert when it comes to ABS plastic or printing but I imagine those prints would use a lot of ink/paint to make something so crisp and clear, and these printing woes have been a lot more noticeable in recent months since their more sustainable efforts. If it is the case, is it worth sacrificing the figure and print quality to save using so much ink?
Hmm, this is making me feel nostalgic for the good ol'' podracer. Lost my original Hasbro one from back in the day. I feel like a lot of these anniversary sets would be much more of a sure thing if they knocked not 5 or 10 bucks from the price!
The interesting thing is that they used Jyn Erso's head prints. Both of them. Other than that, it's a good set. Also, the printing on the helmet was significantly off. Misprints on my figures always throw me off.
This is one of those sets that I’ll get eventually for like 20% off. I do want it though but yet again Lego release so many appealing products and its hard to choose what to get and what not to get
I do like this set and I think that the podrace in Phantom Menace was actually a great scene, lots of action and suspense, it was very well done! This set reminds me of that exciting race, it's very accurate, I'm not sure why they put Padmé in this set, I think a few more minifigs that were in that scene would have been a little more appropriate, like Schmi Skywalker, Gui-Gon Jinn and maybe C3-PO, but still, a nice set.
I still have the first Lego Podracer.......it is.......very,very different and is a way simpler build overall, which is why i personally love the early Lego Star Wars sets- they still remind me of wholesome old school lego..
This one I am definitely getting. It's sad that there's a drop in quality, and that it is so evident in this particular set, but I still think it is one of the better 20th anniversary sets. This and the Slave 1 have really caught my eye. And the drop ship is a no brainer; it's cheap and it's a collectable, why not grab it. So that means I'll have the Han, Leia and Luke replicas, which is a nice three to have. It's just a matter of whether I want to take the extra step and get all 5. Thanks for doing reviews on these sets.
7:42 agreed the quality is not as good I am having a problem with my newer(3 years and under) lego minifigure and parts which were displayed are cracking but my older(5 -10years older) lego that have been well played with are totally fine

Now THIS IS PODRACING.
It's not too bad, I don't notice on my phone, only when using my studio headphones.
Looks like a pretty cool set. I hope that in the future Lego will make the rest of the speeders!
JANGBRiCKS it's barely noticeable.

I love this podracer and am happy that they've made another one! And I accept it's price as actually reasonable!! Yay!
I hope they make more pods in the future. There's a whole series of Star Wars vehicles that could use more representation
You will find that our blockade is quite legal
Jake Johnson I will make it legal
Correction, "This blockade is perfectly legal."
i personally like bubbles in the laser sword/lightsaber because in the movie they arent constant the light shifts and blinks when they fight...
I like it because it makes me feel like the set is new
"I'll make it legal" >:)
Who else likes the 20th anniversary box art?
Me. I think it's beautiful
Best parts of the already great sets
MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that new Luke's helmet print is offset slightly, you can see the hazard print goes off the rectangle moulded into the front of it.
Such a shame.
There are so many bubbles in my LEGO lightsabers from old LEGO Star Wars the clone wars sets that I thought it was intended

You are killing it Jang! I can’t keep up with this flood of content! Pace yourself!
I remember when my dad brought me the original podracer set from a business trip. I loved this thing.

I love this because I still have sebulbas pod built but anakin's somehow ended up disassembled in the big bin.
I remember the set from 1999. Oh the nostalgia. This redo is so much better. 👌
My only wish is that they include a new pit droid build. We haven't had one since 1999!
Are those Uruk'hai blades in a new colour?! I'm sold.
They appeared in that color in Ninjago. It's great for Orcs, like a rusty/cheap version of the Isengard design.

Middle sized legs are just really strange to look at. It reminds me of when i first saw tall chest and pether nortal
They should've included a Jar Jar figure to help recreate those hilarious scenes from Episode I! (We miss you, George.)
A review an hour?!? Whaaaaaat?!

"I'll make it legal" ... never gets old 😂
I didn’t get the original so I definitely want to get this set!
When you showed the Luke figures I thought the one on the right was the new one because of how bad the printing one on the left. I should have known.

They haven't made a podracer in like a decade, this is fantastic to have.
Now this is pod racing
the medium legs are more stuby then i thought but there great!

Great review Jang. Please keep on raising the disappointing paint quality issue. Hopefully Lego is listening.
What do you think about the stripey thingie on the front of the helmet? It looks different. "Exact replica"ish. Is this just a production error on your copy or a general difference? In the end... it won't matter when you don't get too close :)
Wait so they actually DID make medium sized legs?!
Is this set out yet
The old ink was probably killing babies.
Idk about those medium legs. Makes the figures look strange to me
good remake
I HATE how small they made the rear engines
Where did you get all these 20th anniversary sets? I checked my local targets and they don't seem to carry them yet
is it already selling?
Jang agree or disagree we need a Lucrehulk ship or a providence or munificent or how about a UCS venator
ONI, Section 3 we do not need a ucs venator. I really don’t think the market is there, that being said I’m sure it would sell however I think most people would want a normal version over a ucs. Nice as always.
Nice set!
Another great review
Dare I say it is “wizard!”!
