We had a power outage for an hour and we opened the garage door by pulling the garage cord and pulling up the garage door and we could open the garage door to let my wife go to work this early morning. But then I tried to close the garage door just after power came back on. It was not opening by pressing the Open Button like normal. I called my wife and told her the garage door was not opening by pressing the open button. She told me to look for videos in RUclips and I searched and yours one came first top in the list and I tried to do according to your video and it started working well. ThNk you so very much for your very helpful video! Thank you so sooo much. 😊👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😊
After power loss I pulled it down and didn't know I could restore it back so door would open automatically until I saw your simple video. It saved me calling a handyman and $50-100 charge. Thanks you!!!!
This saved my day too (as another commenter said)! I yanked the string sloping upwards to "re-attach"/re-engage things on the door and my garage door opened again. Thanks! Very helpful!
Today my new tenant by mistake closed the garage door by pulling it down with both her hands. The autonatic mechanism of opening & closing stopped working . I was so upset and I thought I have to call someone to fix it now. Hiw much that would cost? No idea. I was praying Lord Jesus please help me. I then happened to watch this video and it worked. Thank God and thank you so much for sharing this Video. God bless you.
Thanks so much. I had a housemate disengage our garage door when I power was off for 5 days because high winds took it. But when they pulled the trigger stringy it broke. Without your video I wasn’t having any luck reengaging the automatic door. Thanks
We loss power during hurricane Ian and returned tonight once power was restored. I thought we had to get a professional to come out or have it replaced until I ran this video. This was genius!!! Thank you so so much!!!
Oh my gosh I was so frustrated because I checked everything....except pulling the emergency release forward! It worked. Thank you...I felt very accomplished😂
I followed these instructions to reengage garage door after power was cut to opener and I had been opening by hand for 2 weeks until the outlet issue was resolved...but the rail almost snapped when I pushed on the opener remote, it bent down about 6 inches and the door didn't open. I'm not sure what happened. I'm wondering if my rail is permanently damaged. I'm trying to get ahold of the person who installed it but he's not returning my messages so... any idea what's going on there? I'm guessing the trolley didn't for some reason travel along the chain (though I thoroughly snapped it back in place) and the force on it was so great that it simply stopped trying, but I wish it had stopped sooner! (I have a large oversize door, and my opener is a chamberlain power drive model pd75ds 3/4 hp) tia for any suggestion !
I am sorry to hear that.. It seems your door was stuck or something.. kind of a silly question but was the lock engaged on the door? there is a lot of torque with these so they can damage themselves if something is stuck.. make sure your springs are okay .. is it easy to lift and close manually if you disengage the opener? I would try to disengage it first and see how easy it is to life by hand.. it shouldn't be too difficult.. if it goes up and down smoothly try reengaging the garage door opener.. unless the metal rail is too bent.. then you might want a professional to take a look at it .. I hope you get this resolved my friend :)
@@ETPCYT ahhggghh!! yes it was! I feel so stupid. its a new door and I'm not used to having that feature...it was totally unnecessary to even have it locked as I live in an area with NO issues. anyway I'm hopeful I didn't screw anything up with the rail....it bent down about 6" before it was all said and done. things seem to be working ok now. but lesson learned I guess :/ thx for asking btw.
Thank you so much I pulled this trying to open a garage door and the auto wasn't working and I was so afraid the guy I'm dog sitting for I'd broken his door you saved me so much embarrassment so grateful rn
I wonder if you can solve my problem. I have an automatic garage door opener. (Wide door made for a double car garage) . Somehow the opener got zapped and did not work. So I pulled down on the cord and for weeks I have been able to manually open the garage door. One day I opened it and the metal line on the side got tangled. They only way for me to remedy this was to CUT the metal cord. (This is the one attached to the wired dumbs in the center of the door). I had to cut both because it would not open. Now I have a garage door with no metal cords attached to the tightly wound drums in the center. THE DOOR IS CLOSED SHUT LIKE IT HAS 500 POUNDS OF BRICKS ON IT. Any thoughts? Everything is so expensive I am trying to fix things on my own. I appreciate any help you may have. Be well.
Hello, RICK. I apologize for the slow response.. They are deceptively heavy.. THe cables you cut were attached to the spring so you can raise and lower your door easily.. The cable can come off the track sometimes or the spring can break.. does your motor still work? Getting new cables and putting them up shouldn't be too difficult but the tortion spring has a ton of pressure and it can seriously injure you if you don't know what you are doing. I recommend a pro for this my friend.. but if you are up to it .. there are videos out there on how to fix it yourself.. just be VERY VERY careful!
I will try that then . Thanks i need a whole new opening system this one is very old , just bought this house and that was up there i just want to get my car in the garage from the cold , does the chain come apart if this dont work trying to pull it like you said ... anything to get the door open .. Thanks
ok so I thought you had it disconnected and were trying to reconnect it.. it sounds like it is still connected.. This one is a worm drive .. just a long screw.. if you have a chain drive one, the disconnect might be a little different. Perhaps google how to undo one of those.. Best of luck my FRIEND.. and congratulations on your new house :)
@@ETPCYT I just went out to the garage and did you what had mentioned going up higher and pull that cord , and still nothing but then i started looking at what might be stuck maybe a wheel is off . nope it was the latch .. the seller before he left locked it so i unlatched it and it opened , at least now i can keep my car in from the cold , until i can get a new opener put on . such an easy fix this was but just never know untill you investigate it . You sir are my hero. I didnt know what to do. Hook got caught on the rack on top of out vehicle, so I scrolled and scrolled. And came across your video!!! #AQuickFix #YouAreGreatlyAppreciated
Mine wouldnt close so i had to manually close it. Then it wouldn't open after engaging the lock. Spent forever clicking buttons, sweeping in the garage thinking and thinking, and finally after giving up had the idea to manually drag it back to the fully open position, re-engaging the lock and then....and only then.. did it open and close properly. Too hot outside where I'm at for all that!
I got it back to locked in, where I can't open the door by hand, however it's still not opening automatically. Like it's not catching with whatever part of the track moves it along. Any tip?
hmm..I have never had that issue.. perhaps it's just missing the work drive.. disengage the latch again.. lift up the garage a bit.. put a 2x4 or something to hold it up then reengage the latch.. that's all I can think of
It may be that the garage is off just a bit..try lifting the door a few inches.. put a piece of wood or something under it then try reengaging.. try getting a ladder and standing higher so you can tug the cord almost directly toward the motor.. you have to give it a pretty fast and hard tug to get it to go back...
@@ETPCYT ok thanks I will try that today . Also, we replaced the bottom rubber sealer for the garage door and I’m wondering if that may be an issue as well .
Hey JOE, it is stuck in the released position? try lifting up the garage a few inches and slipping a 2x4 or something under it and then when you pull on the cord it is almost straight back toward the motor.. YOU have to jerk quite firmly too for it to reengage.. I hope this helps.. You may have to stand on a ladder to get high enough to make sure you are jerking backwards and not downwards.. best of luck my FRIEND !
You should be able to reconnect it with a very firm tug directly backward on the cord towards the motor. You might need to get a ladder so you can get a little bit of a better angle at it
Thank you thank you thank you for saving me a $100 service call. I watched so many videos and unti l found yours no one showed me how to re-engage the pull cord. Finally you showed me and my problem is fixed.
If there is a sound coming like the motor is running but nothing happens.. it is not engaged yet.. make sure you pull pretty hard and it's toward the motor .. you might have to stand on a ladder to pull it towards it effectively
@@ETPCYT it was the Spring. it snapped finally. Replaced both of them. When I attempted to open the garage door I really didnt realize how much effort was needed without the springs in place! All good now!
Hey Violet some of these can be quite difficult.. a very firm and quick JERK on the cord in a motion directly toward the motor.. if you are on ground level you might be pulling it back but also at a downward angle.. try getting a little higher so you can tug it directly backwards toward the motor.. BE careful though! :)
