It isn't a matter of maturity or being "bothered" by breastfeeding; it's PUBLIC breastfeeding that's the issue. It's simply cultural and what someone is used to, that's all. Roger and Ismil, I know in the Philippines you're experiencing an increase in tourism. Can you share how best for foreigners to handle this experience? Thank you Brian
I've lived in 4 states in the USA and traveled through every state and I would say more people now days breast feed their babies than not. And at least where I am living now, it's relatively common to see women breast feeding in public. Some women cover up a little while doing it, some don't. But I have yet to see anyone (Even though I have heard of it) making a big deal out of seeing it in public.
Its a natural function, no reason to be shocked. Mine couldn't breast feed being premature so he had to have formula. People here in the state make to much of breast feeding. Take care guys.
I would be a foreigner in your country, but I can assure you, it would not be a culture shock. I'm in the US and think this is the healthiest thing to do. My wife breastfeed both of my kids.
I never felt awkward about seeing women breast feed in the Philippines. In the 1970s through the 1980s beach fashion here in Europe was topless. Women would only wear the bottom part of their bikinis, so when on vacation we were used to being surrounded by lots of naked boobs. What struck me more in the Philippines was the inconsistent behaviour. My ex-sister-in-law would always walk around with her baby on her breast, but when we went swimming she refused to wear proper swimwear (not even a one-piece bathing suit).
As a brit, public breastfeeding is pretty common here - its done discreetly but obvious none the less, completely normal healthy thing to do, no issues here
Yeah, my 1st time here, meeting s girl 2016. She met me at the hotel and brought her 2 year old girl (fil-am) Girl was naturally a brat, and didn't want me near her momma lol. We go to Ayala Mall, I bought a stroller to roll the kid around in. So we are in a packed full Jolli Bee's, she goes to order with her baby, I found us a seat. The girl was having a wild pissed off temper tantrum with mom in line. When they got to the table, she flops out a boob for the kid !! I was like WTF?? it's crowded in here, and people are staring I told her. She said "So, it's natural, she is hungry" yeah ok handle your bizness lol. But the time I spent here was 3 months, and the 2 year old used them Doh-Doh's for comfort, everytime she had a fit. Funny, suck on 1, and fondle the other boob hahaha.. Seeing this "baby" now time to time, since I live here on the mountain. She is around 10 years old, and a very smart kid! She speaks Chinese, English like a native, and of course Bisyayan. She turned out to be an good kid, even if her momma ain't as bright hahaha I'd tease the baby "Those are for ME girlie" Like they say, "it's more fun in the Philippines" Can't resist Ismi, but you ain't got a problem keeping any future babies fed hahaha
For me as an older man, it was an extraordinary experience the first time, but I also find it very normal. Because babies need their mothers' milk. Not just because of poverty.
Breastfeeding has been practiced since humans began. Formula hasn't been around but the last 80 years or so. Mom's milk is the BEST formula for the baby. It has immune properties that keep the baby healthy. Formula has only been around as a substitute. The Philippines are a bit behind in accommodating spaces for Mom to feed Junior. Ismi was way off about the reasoning for breastfeeding as an economic need. Breastfeeding in public can be done discreetly and without embarrassment or shame. Spread the word about it being natural and a better nutritional option than formula! It is a very common practice now in western countries to breastfeed whenever the baby is honey, no matter where mom is. Please research.
...the fact of the matter is that the mothers milk is needed by the new baby. It has the colostrum to wake up the babies immune system and .ake it much stronger....fact
Here in the U.S. to breast feed a child or not in public has always been a battling topic weather you should display it or not and how others feel about it. I think depending on the culture would it be accepted by others such as the Philippines
The culture of breastfeeding has been around since the beginning of time...I have seen breastfeeding take place in every country I have been too...How discreet the mom is, depends upon how comfortable she is. It's a natural thing and it's more normal than one thinks.
Go to the highlands of New Guinea and see women with a baby on one breats and a pig on the other. Was told about it but still amazed when first seeing it.
Like The Philippines, it was normal in Indonesia for all nursing women including my sons' mum to breastfeed in public. I loved that my boys had what my siblings and I did not. Power to Filipina, Malay and Indonesian mummies! In the UK, nursing mums are not supported, are sexualised for doing what the female breast is made for. We call ourselves developed but on this issue we are pathetic. Meanwhile milk formula companies make fortunes for bottled milk.
Like at all the the SM Malls there are special places for women to breastfeed their babies. Pretty interesting to me but not really a shock to me because it's natural. I feel women should be able to breastfeed whenever they need to. Social media and Western society has shammed this practice and it's sad. I love how the Philippines do things differently... Many things just makes sense, like common sense. I can go on and on about various things here that just makes sense compared to the West.
This was a very interesting topic that I have not seen covered elsewhere. I am an American retired in Cebu and I want to add a couple points. First of all, breastfeeding is actually much more common than it used to be. in America. Women in many states have lobbied to get the puritanical laws against toplessness abolished. I think that breastfeeding can become more normalized as people get exposed to seeing it more. I worked in the nursing field for 35 years and I couldn't even count the number of naked bodies I saw of all ages, sizes and genders. After some time the shock value of nudity just goes away. I would be lying if I said that I never felt aroused by a pretty naked female patient, but it didn't happen very often. I think breast feeding has trivial shock value and there is no reason to hide it. I have come across a couple Filipina youtube breastfeeding channels, but I think they are either exhibitionists or they are baring their boobs to get more views. But there just is no problem with breast feeding and I think that people who are uncomfortable seeing breast feeding should just get over it or leave the vicinity. Not everything is perfectly comfortable in life. It astounds me that breast feeding makes women comfortable. The hospital I worked in had installed breast milk pumping areas for moms at work where there once was nowhere specific to do this. There are definitely more breastfeeding mims than there used to be. Also a solution tor the embarassment problem might be to get one of the new bras with a built in breast pump and milk container. Another interesting fact is that many women in America sell their breast milk for 400-500 pesos per ounce (30ml)
I would actually forbid my wife to use chemical milk. I had my digestion and organs compromised for life because of artificial milk! Also, boobs are made to be seen!
In my country it is not only frequent, I could bet mothers run outside to breast-feed. Malls started to build this "discrete spaces" for mums to baby-breast and the outrage was immediate: "chest-feed is normal" (hence they spear to your face... "chest" feeding is used instead of "breast" feeding because the same people stand for "(trans) men can also chest-feed")
Before covid i was in mall in cebu where they had a stage set up with a show of women breast feeding from young to older children, lots of people in the audiance so this is not a province thing only.
I have seen breastfeeding here in America it’s normal yes some people cover up with a blanket but some just don’t care and do it out in the open also it’s a bonding experience with mother and baby
Hi Roger & Ismi I'm an older guy but I'm not immune too that type of thing but I was married with 3 kids and there are certain times where my ex-wife put a towel over the baby feeding for privacy but now that I'm older and try to not be so childish as to stare or say something rude but I'm sure there are younger guys who will be that rude type of guy but I'm just that mature I guess?
Here’s a perspective that is not (based on my observations) discusses very often… As an adopted person, I was not breastfed as a child. As a heterosexual male, my fascination with breasts and feelings when observing a breastfeeding baby are akin to jealousy…
Any person who is shocked or complains about a woman breast feeding her baby is the one who has the mental problems, not the breast feeding mother. Half the population of the world have breasts and it is perfectly natural. Judge not lest thee be judged.

Hello @michaelbeggs2013, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about this subject. Your insight is highly appreciated. Thank you
I am dutch. absolutely not surprised or shocked with seeing women breastfeed children
O I see thanks for the info
perfectly normal. a All 12 of us were breast fed and many others were..
There shouldn't be any stigma to breastfeeding. It's natural.
Before covid i was in mall in cebu where they had a stage set up with a show of women breast feeding from young to older children, lots of people in the audiance so this is not a province thing only.
Breastfeeding is best for babies. It should be normal everywhere.
Ismi could feed a village 😂😂😂
I have seen breastfeeding here in America it’s normal yes some people cover up with a blanket but some just don’t care and do it out in the open also it’s a bonding experience with mother and baby
Hi Roger & Ismi I'm an older guy but I'm not immune too that type of thing but I was married with 3 kids and there are certain times where my ex-wife put a towel over the baby feeding for privacy but now that I'm older and try to not be so childish as to stare or say something rude but I'm sure there are younger guys who will be that rude type of guy but I'm just that mature I guess?
Here’s a perspective that is not (based on my observations) discusses very often…
As an adopted person, I was not breastfed as a child. As a heterosexual male, my fascination with breasts and feelings when observing a breastfeeding baby are akin to jealousy…
I pushed to used our niece but they did not, Way healthier, Its no shock really,
See it all the time in USA.
I have no problem at all with breastfeeding.
That is not shocking to most adult men,,
Hey dude, how come you didn't do your usual super gay heart sign you make with your hands at the beginning of the video?
😂😂😂
Breast feeding is healthy for our babies until they get teeth 😂 then the looks mommy gives baby after a bite as baby just smiles trying to bond . 🤣
Any person who is shocked or complains about a woman breast feeding her baby is the one who has the mental problems, not the breast feeding mother. Half the population of the world have breasts and it is perfectly natural. Judge not lest thee be judged.
I have question im an Filipino who was born in New Zealand im not Circumcised and im 24 now what should i do im at philippines
I’m moving to the province. This is everyday in the village. Young women are suckling their babies all of the time.
