Thank you! This is one of the top five most helpful videos I've seen ever! I am getting ready to plant this weekend, and now I feel so much more confident!
@@ThatClappedFa5 gravel will work, its just doesn't have any nutrient value for plants. Fish waste will help a bit, but root tabs and liquid fertilizer will as well. If the gravel has a high CEC value (How much it can take in) then liquid fertilizer will benefit root feeding plants better. Bottom line, depending on your setup is what fertilizer regime you will use. If it's low light, then not much liquid fertilizer but root tabs would work well, medium light decent amount of liquid fertilizer and root tabs, high light lots if fertilizer and root tabs. Injecting co2 makes everything different so stick without co2 at first.
@@fearlessmemes6678 It really depends on all the other factors in your aquarium. Are you using high , low, or moderate lighting, pressurized co2 or not, inert or active substrate, etc. Seachem flourish on its own doesn't contain everything a plant needs, that's why they have so many different products for fertilizer. I'd recommend an all in one fertilizer. Ones that I know work well are thrive, aquarium co op easy green, and marcus fish tank all in one fertilizer.
Quick question is there only sand in your tank? Should I put some kind of aquarium soil and then some gravel to keep the soil from getting too cloudy in the water? By the way great video. it's funny I like to spread the plants out mainly because I was thinking the roots would grow but also I don't like having tanks that look over crowded with plants. I like my bettas to be able to swim.
aquarium soil is a great help but you can use root tabs(fertilizer) placed below or beside plant also damping your substrate first to help lock in plant and stop it floating when filling tank
For each plant you don’t say bury above root or not Sword.. do I bury above root. Clover .. do I bury above the rhizome????? Stem plants... how deep. Do I push past the node... do I remove leaves?? You need a part 2!!
Mine never melt but they never grow either. I use a flora light with fertilizer tabs and liquid. I swear before I bought the gel pack ones they grew like crazy and I could split them.
Just be thoughtful as you do this because if the rock is to large you could suffocate the root base (compacting like issue). Basically a stone, rock, pebble, etc that is a little bigger than your 2 thumbs side by side should be fine. I did this to hold down a runner off of a sword chain plant I'm growing out.
autism boi you can buy a substrate for under the gravel and it can help them grow! I currently have volcanic rock type substrate under my main gravel which helps them grow but gives more choice in colour! Seems to work well for me. You only need to use about 1/2 inch to cover bottom of your tank and then the rest of your gravel on top. Hope this helps!! :) Ps. I got my volcanic gravel from Petland, but you can probably buy it off amazon.
I have a mix of pretty fine sand and some gravel, I’ve had my plants in the gravel because I thought sand isn’t good for optimal growth but my plants are slowly dying even though I have root tabs and the liquid you put in the water that contains iron, etc. Should I plant them in the sand, or keep them in the gravel? This is my first time with a planted aquarium and I’m afraid they are going to die and are making the water foul. Also, are blue LED lights sufficient for growth? I also open my curtains when it’s not too hot to try and get some sunlight in the tank for the plants
I have a question for any 1 that may have a answer HOW DEEP do stem plant's need to be to grow ? I have rotala indica, water wisteria, & jungle Val. I've had the water wisteria for a month 1/2 are floating & I planted the other 1/2, I have about a inch of gravel & all the plants but the wisteria is is doing good why isn't the water wisteria growing? does it need to be deeper ?
By changing the water it doesn’t mean to completely empty out your tank it shouldn’t disrupt your plants that much take out about 70% of the old water and add new dechlorinated water
Dude you were all over the place i have no idea how to keep my plants weighted by end of the video cause they're was so much randomness that didnt need to be in here
How are those people growing Monte Carlo in rocks? You ever seen those scapes with rock piles of Monte Carlo growing out of them, I guess maybe they have soil packed in all the crevasse?
The easiest way is to plant seeds before you add water and just spray them with water until they establish roots. Then you can fill with water and they will stay put
everytime I've tried aquarium plants they die I have a light on a timer they even get natural sunlight aswell I've done everything people have said but they still die am attempting it again
Bro. Missing a bunch of helpful info I was hoping for. It's like Monkey nut is saying. 2nd video, explain the above and below rhizome thing and maybe give plant family info. for plants that are water column feeders as opposed to substrate feeders!! It helps you figure out where and how to plant specific plant specific care for feeding requirements (ferts), and also how to id what will work for placement, etc. when figuring out placement within the tank.
Also might want to do a video on lighting. I for example am learning by trial and error what plants are working for me thinking I have good lighting because my tank lighting looks good. That said, I have a stock Walmart 10 gallon kit with the LED hood light. I don't even know how much light it generates. I'm beginning to understand why I have only been successful with Anubias and Crypt plants. No one is explaining this well enough.
You should never use "sand" for planting you won't get good results. You can get away with anubias and stem plants but wouldn't recommended for planted tanks. Buy good planting substrate, yes it's expensive but it's well worth it. You get what you paid for.
Using sand as your media is not helpful. It doesn't allow roots to get air like a small gravel does. Not that it can't be done, but I bet a million plants day each year from going into sand.
So how to water them?
Lol
Deus why is this so fucking funnyyyt lmaaoo
You r. Kelly it... Duh
You take them out of the aquarium when they start to wilt and pour water on them. Duh. 😆
Lol😜🤣👌

Wish this video was out when I first got into the hobby haha. It comprises all that I have learned these past 4 years in the hobby.
Thankyou foreigner brother for Aq.planner care information
Great video about adding plants to your aquarium , lots of good tips ... Tks.
Can I grow plants in gravel substrate? What considerations I need to have?
Priceless tips about aquarium plants which I did not know! Thank you so much!
Congrats on 10K! Great info - I have been crowding some of my plants!
Im not sure what of your plants i could glue to rocks etc.. or have to plant in the substrate
Wow so happy I found your channel thank you so very much
Will using gravel work? Or do I need to use something else
Have you found the answer?

Can you just plant the plants in sand or in dirt or something else?
Ok I didn’t know about taken my stem plants apart. If you take that lead weight off the bottom how do you keep them down? Won’t the float?

How do you deal when the plants won't stay in the substrate?
place a small rock over it near the base. It should hold it in place.
Just be thoughtful as you do this because if the rock is to large you could suffocate the root base (compacting like issue). Basically a stone, rock, pebble, etc that is a little bigger than your 2 thumbs side by side should be fine. I did this to hold down a runner off of a sword chain plant I'm growing out.
what if you have fat thumbs?
My question too. And next, do you start your tanks with plants and no fish? My fish dig my plants out every night, even with rocks around the plants.
Do you have to have soil under the sand
Where do you buy live plants for a fish aquarium and do you have to have gravel because I have just a colored rocks
What about if you have gravel instead of sand?
Same concept, but sand or gravel on its own does not contain the nutrients for plants.

If some of the leaves begin to brown should I cut them off or just leave em? Sorry still pretty new at this :x
Cut them off because it promotes more brown growth
