Once again, Matt, you’re killing it. I think the best advice for a beginning fishkeeper is just how easy it is to establish most stem plants under most circumstances, take cuttings, jam them into the substrate, and turn one plant into twenty over night. In my work as a horticulturist, I propagate some of the most difficult/rare/expensive terrestrial plants on the planet. As a general rule, I’m blown away at how easy most stem plants are in planted aquariums, even for someone who’s totally new to the hobby. Again, though, I think you’re nailing it. Now um if it were um only so easy to um propagate that luxurious beard of yours. 😂 Cheers from Miami, man.

Another great vid. I've struggled with plants in the past (keeping them alive), but have been having some success lately. One thing you might want to cover is things like root tabs, and fertilizers. What kinds to use, and how often to use them. Thanks again Matt.

@@heaven7360 I think that the plants I had in the past didn't actually die, they just were going through that melting phase, and I gave up on them too soon. Try again, and just let them do their thing.

Wow!! Now I know why all the stem plants died in the past! I planted them way too close together. The only things that grew for me was Amazon swords, Anubias, and Java moss. Now I am excited to add stem plants to my tank!! No one ever showed a beginner the actual step by step how to expect for you!! Bravo! Now, I get it. Gina from across the pond in the USA.

Oh my word. I have watched so many RUclips videos on planted tanks and aquatic plants but no one has ever explained some of the things you said. I had no clue where I should cut, now I do! Also I had trouble getting them in with tweezers. I would push them in, open the tweezer and pull them out along with the stem, arrrrrr! It’s because I was not doing the wiggle. I can’t believe how helpful I found this video. THANKS Matt!

Thank you so much for this video, I recently have decided to experiment with stem plants in my new aquarium. In the past I have stuck with the easy rhizome plants (anubias, java fern, etc) that I could simply super glue to rocks without having to replace my existing substrate with aqua soil. I’m taking it up a notch with my (soon to be) Pygmy Cory tank and I needed guidance on planting these which are coming in the mail. I can always count on you and MD, I’ve learned so much watching your videos! ❤🙏

Late with my comment but I recently saw some video with a question about "Why all the beginner content?" There was a great answer, and a disclaimer. If RUclipsrs who have advanced knowledge put up beginner content only, the beginners will find it harder to advance to the advance aquarist stages. I would love to see an in depth, slightly advanced video on substrates and substrate additives. Love all yo udo Matt, would love to come visit your store if I ever get to England.

As much as I've tried (a lot), I simply can't use tweezers for planting. Usually end up pushing plants down into substrate with my meat hooks hahaha. Really do enjoy getting free plants by cutting stems as they grow up to the top. Takes a little while and some patience for them to grow but the entire hobby is a journey. So glad I found your channel. I live way over in Utah but boy oh boy would I love to have a shop like yours around me. Would love to visit your location and if course MD's studio if I ever get a chance. Thanks again for all the great content!
