I didn’t realize Jr PAC Man existed until 2000 when I bumped into the machine at South of the Border. This became my favorite game of the PAC-Man Franchise. It’s sad this game isn’t available for the Switch like PAC-Man & Super PAC-Man are.
So I finally got to play this game a couple of days ago at the bowling alley I was at. It really is a fun game. I don't ever remember playing this as a kid. The cabinet this game was in was one of those multi-game cabs with like 30 games in it. The only bummer was the joystick was REAL bad, making split-second turns nearly impossible. I would love to have this at home!!
I wonder why Clyde got renamed to Sue in Ms., and to Tim in Jr.? Was it an attempt to make more ghost characters? It sort of worked for Sue I guess since she’s now purple, but what color is Tim supposed to be, brown? I know in Sandbox Evolution he was turned into a peach color, but since the original Jr. Pac-Man game made him a darker orange and not brighter, I feel as if he should be brown. Anyways, Namco needs to seriously get their crap together and finally start re-releasing this game again, or at the very least for arcade machines like Pixel Bash and the Arcade1Up’s. If they can get Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man Plus, then they can do Jr. Pac-Man too. It’s not like he’s out of limits anyways since he’s been in the Pac-Man World games, among other things. Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man, Sue, Tim, and Yum-Yum all need to make more reappearances too. I don’t care about any of the original characters they’re trying to come up in shows like Ghostly Adventures or their Pac-Stores or whatever they’re called. Even characters like Orson, Spooky, Miru, and Kinky would be better. But I guess instead of respecting their own games, Namco would rather make more new ones that nobody cares about. They just don’t want to admit that Midway also made good Pac-Man games I guess, and forget the ambitions of Pac-Man World 1 and 2. It’s no surprise to me that they pretty much stopped making good Pac-Man games altogether for the most part not long after the merger with Bandai other than the Championship Editions. Such a shame... :(
Yeah, constantly re-releasing the original Pac Man even on the same consoles- let's say like if you happen to see different games that come with it, is absurd. The arcade Pac Man is just that, but let's say like on the Switch they put out Namco Museum, Arcade Archives, and now coming up is Pac Man Museum+ - Arcade Archives has that High Score Mode, Namco Museum has that Challenge Mode and comes with some other games harder to come around- same with Pac Man Museum+, but I'm telling you, as someone who owns a Switch and admittedly wants some of those other games, one arcade version Pac Man, especially on the same console, is just enough for me- regardless of those other minor feature changes- because I'm telling you, chances are I'll only want to be playing the game straight up. And now Namco cutting more corners and not even paying for the Ms. Pac Man character, just because AtGames owns it now, is not acceptable- because I know they will make well past whatever amount it costs just to get all of the royalties. Having other variants of the Ms. Pac Man character, ain't always the worst thing. However, going as far as editing older games that featured her just to cut corners, is disgusting. Besides, I'd rather Ms. Pac Man, Jr. Pac Man, and even Baby Pac Man, all be paid for, always. And putting this game, and Baby Pac Man, out on more than one console. By the way, even more releases of Pac Man Plus, and hey, the very similar Ms. Pac Man Plus, I'll tell ya, put em on one of those Arcade1up Partycades and maybe pack em with some unrelated games that aren't the originals again in that form, And not another of the same Galaga and the same Dig Dug either- Here we go, Pac Man Plus Partycade- 10 games- Pac Man Plus, Jr. Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man Plus, and then they pick the other 7, wouldn't even care if it costs a little more, but that size is perfect, and we got ourselves a deal, 3/4 Sized version too- Jr. Pac Man cabinet, those same games plus maybe the console Pac Attack and at least one arranged version on there like other comps, and THEN an arranged Dig Dug, and that's good business. Thanks
It's worth noting that Namco has only ever tacitly acknowledged Ms. Pac-Man as an official title in the series - they did release it and license many ports of it over the years, but it was with great reluctance since the company basically had to admit that they didn't actually create it. Namco is a proud Japanese company, and they are NOT known for publishing or even accepting third-party stuff. And in that vein, they have NEVER officially acknowledged Jr. Pac-Man, nor any of Midway's other unlicensed games (Baby Pac-Man, Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man, or Professor Pac-Man). So we can't really get on Namco's case about not "re-releasing" it, because they never released it in the first place, and they haven't ever taken it on as a first-party property. Midway is gone now, as well, so they're not in a position to do anything with it either.
@@KieferSkunk Which is absolutely ridiculous. I know it was out of reluctance for Ms., but they should admit that Jr. is a good game too and give it the proper recognition it deserves. I’m not saying that Jr. is the best game in the series or anything, that’s an entirely subjective opinion since the original, Ms., and Jr. are all different, but it’s definitely extremely underrated all just because of their refusal. I’m not even asking for them to recognize any of the other Midway games, (I can easily see why they want to leave Pac-Baby and Professor Pac-Man behind since they have a bunch of problems) I just simply want Ms. and Jr., that’s all I’m asking for. Plus is interesting too, but it’s just a ROM hack that just so happened to be officially released by Midway, so I’m not so sure why Namco is so proud of that all of a sudden and not Jr.. *This whole situation makes no sense.*
@@bolivwx 10 games for a Pac-Man themed compilation? Easy, those can be: 1. Pac-Man 2. Ms. Pac-Man 3. Jr. Pac-Man 4. Pac-Man Plus 5. Super Pac-Man 6. Pac & Pal 7. Pac-Land 8. Pac-Mania 9. Pac-Man Arrangement 10. Galaga (Since they like to include both it and Pac-Man on literally everything) Obviously it would just be more preferable to have as many Namco themed games as possible on one official physical arcade cabinet, but if it was to only be Pac-Man themed, I’d do it like that. If not though, my choices would probably be somewhere among the lines of: 1. Pac-Man 2. Ms. Pac-Man 3. Jr. Pac-Man 4. Super Pac-Man 5. Pac-Mania 6. Galaxian 7. Galaga 8. Dig Dug 9. Mappy 10. Rally-X I’d *still* want more games than those, like Xevious, Pole Position, New Rally-X, Gaplus, Galaga '88, Bosconian, and the other Arrangement games just to name a few, but again if it *had* to be condensed to just 10 I’m the style of an Arcade1Up machine, those would be my main choices. Besides, all 10 of those games are essential and have significantly important historical value for Namco themed arcade games, let alone Namco and arcades by themselves in general. Is it objectively the best list? Probably not, but it’s still better than most of Namco’s compilations and re-releases today. And wether Namco likes it or not, both Ms. and Jr. had a lot of inspiration for future titles in that franchise. Even the once unofficial made now official NES Championship Edition demake take some cues from Jr. did with the scrolling maze. Hell, going faster in of itself is also inspired by ROM hacks and ports that did the same thing. The point I’m trying to make is that if even a company like Nintendo can hold onto characters and franchises made for the likes of Donkey Kong Country and Mario Tennis from other developers, (Diddy Kong and Waluigi being the most notable examples respectively) then Namco should lawyer up and take back the games made by Midway as well, or at the very least Ms. and Jr.. They were the ones responsible for officially giving Midway the Pac-Man license, and by the time they were stripped of it those games were still made. And of course, they still occasionally re-release Ms. and Plus sometimes, (I know for Ms. it’s even more reluctantly by now thanks to AtGames but still) so why they don’t do the same thing for Jr. at the same time as Ms. I have no idea, especially since those are two games are without a question the most similar to the arcade original without outright copying it, both in terms of graphics and gameplay.
@@ZacharyDietze As I understand it, there are several reasons why they can't/won't recognize those titles as canonical to the series. From a legal standpoint, Namco-Bandai would now have to purchase the rights to those titles from whoever took them over from Midway, since those games were technically made in the US and Namco didn't have a presence here at the time, thus no legal claim to them. And with Ms. Pac-Man in legal limbo right now, that's even more of a problem. From a series perspective, I may be wrong on this, but I don't think Namco ever established any sort of canon that Pac-Man had a family. This stuff about being married and having at least one kid was all Midway. To take these games in implies that Namco supports this idea, and for whatever reason, they may not want to do that.
This game, along with the other Midway 'Pac-Man' games are the main reasons why Namco decided to cancel the license for Midway to make Pac-Man games, all for reasons unknown. As of now, it is unknown who owns the Midway 'Pac-Man' games.
The reason for the license agreement being terminated is actually well known: It's because, frankly, Midway was abusing that agreement and creating new games in the franchise without Namco's permission or blessing, and as one reviewer put it, some of the games were frankly so terrible that they could have ruined the franchise. Professor Pac-Man is usually the one people point to as being not only terrible, but nothing like a Pac-Man game, only using the character as a way to draw attention to what was otherwise a pretty bad quiz game. Baby Pac-Man is the other one most people deride for two reasons: (1) It was both a terrible version of the maze game AND a mediocre-at-best pinball game, and (2) It was notoriously hard to maintain - very poorly designed and built. Namco was right to terminate the license agreement. Had they continued it, they would have been tacitly accepting these games as part of its own franchise, and thus been subject to whatever damage to that franchise those games would have brought. As it is, these games do live on in the memories of people like us, and the fact that we're even talking about this stuff goes to show just how much damage they DID do to Namco. These games have been a thorn in their side ever since they came into existence. That said, it really is too bad that they didn't take on Jr. Pac-Man, as this one is actually a pretty good game. But given the nature of copyright law and such, it's very understandable. (Why didn't Namco sue Midway? Because Namco didn't have a presence in the USA at the time.)
I do remember this version of Pac-Man. Only seen it once at an arcade I only been to once. It is a much harder version because of how the mazes change each time they are cleared and the way they're designed.
Then why the name change? What's he trying to hide? Is he hiding from the government because he didn't pay his taxes? Is he incognito because of Interpol? Has he skipped on child support payments? Whats the deal man!?
I wish that they would make a Pac-Man anthology using original arcade graphics and mechanics. It should include Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Pac-Mania, Jr. Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus, Pac-Land, and Baby Pac-Man although I don't know how the pinball part of it would be included. Just something to think about.
They would have to pay the original creators a ton of moolah for half of that, that's why you can barely get Ms. Pac-Man on any new Pac-Man/Namco collections.
Ok, I like this opening because someone would think that the last ghost would be called,"Clyde" and not "Tim", however now knowing that Tim was used to replace Clyde just like the ghost Sue replacing Clyde as well in Ms. Pac-Man makes alot of sense now considering the entire Midway and Namco situation back then. Just knowing even a little bit of the whole Pac-Man Lore is just intesting to me!
There's a lot of debate about why it was just Clyde that got switched around. Blinky, Pinky and Inky were just as recognizable (if not more so). But, interesting fun fact: Pac-Man is the American release of that game. In the Japanese Puck Man, the ghosts had Japanese names that translated as "Chaser", "Fickle", "Ambusher" and "Stupid", respectively. Midway officially came up with the English versions of those names, so at least in their minds, they had more leeway with how to name them in their sequels. Also, it's been reported that Clyde being renamed to Sue for Ms. Pac-Man was an attempt to make the game more appealing to women - nice to have a female rival to the player character, right? Perhaps Midway adopted "Tim" because that sounded more kid-friendly than Clyde.
August 13, 1983-enter jr. pac man, a beanie wearing tyke eyeing on yum-yum-blinky’s daughter. And soon, misadventures ensue. A cult favorite, nonetheless.
i'm 50 years old. And till this day I'm STILL waiting for modern compilations (Pac Man Museums) to add this game into the mix. OR just simply release it for $5 or something. Why is Namco ignoring this title?
My favorite game in the pac man series! Junior would have been a bigger hit if it had wider distribution. Have you played the Atari 2600 or the 5200 home version? They did an excellent job of porting the arcade into a cartridge. Too bad that the Jr Pac Man games for the Atari consoles didn't get the exposure that they deserved.
Fun Fact: While Ms. Pac-Man was gladly accepted into the Namco universe, Jr. Pac-Man wasn't. This game, along with Baby Pac-Man, wound up seeing Namco cutting ties with Bally-Midway.
Another fun fact about that: Technically speaking, the maze data is exactly the same size as the mazes in Pac-Man. The data comprises one half (left half, I believe) of the maze, and the other half is simply mirrored from it. Simple but effective trick. If you were to take screenshots of the game scrolled all the way to the left and then to the right, and stitch them together, the symmetry would be easy to see, and if you did that with the kill screen (which in this game causes mostly empty space with some lit pixels forming a sort of "starry sky"), you'd quickly see a perfectly symmetric "arch" at the top middle.
Tbh I thought it would be a better idea if Namco (north America division) bought out midway with their employees so it would be ok for them to make these amazing games
I'm surprised that this game was originally going to be in the Pac-Man Plug N' Play from 2009! Did Namco start tolerating this game, even though it was removed? Just curious...
What I stated was the truth. Going through ghost without fear of dying looses a lot of the game's challenge and appeal. If you don't like it, tough. Also, I didn't troll I simply submitted an opinion. So why don't you go and change out your tampon and be a good little bitch, instead of being a pussy ass fanboy! P.S. Have a good day!

I didn’t realize Jr PAC Man existed until 2000 when I bumped into the machine at South of the Border.
This became my favorite game of the PAC-Man Franchise.
It’s sad this game isn’t available for the Switch like PAC-Man & Super PAC-Man are.
This game was the hardest Pac Man of all. I used to play this at Golf Land in Stanton, Ca.
IMO Baby Pac-Man is miles harder.
I can't stop crying. What a beautiful story. On par with twilight I'd say
ALL HE WANTED WAS TO SEE HIS NEW GHOST FRIEND!! Love is not a crime you hear me LOVE IS NOT A CRIME!!!
This one needed a continue feature. An excellent challenge for the serious player. The Root Beer maze is a killer

The scrolling is a great innovation here! I would love to see a huge RPG pacman with a scrolling map and characters to interact with :D
@@ValChronification Pacman 2 was like that, if you wanna check it out. It came out for SNES and Genesis
Well it’s actually a big maze
ValChronification Pac-Man 2: the new adventures is what your lookin for then
The "fruit" on this game turned rogue. It makes the dots bigger and destroys power pellets.
Pac Man Plus, I'll tell ya, put em on one of those Arcade1up Partycades and maybe pack em with some unrelated games that aren't the originals again in that form,
And not another of the same Galaga and the same Dig Dug either-
Here we go, Pac Man Plus Partycade- 10 games- Pac Man Plus, Jr.
Easy, those can be:
1. Pac-Man
2. Ms. Pac-Man
3. Jr. Pac-Man
4. Pac-Man Plus
5. Super Pac-Man
6. Pac & Pal
7. Pac-Land
8. Pac-Mania
9. Pac-Man Arrangement
10. Galaga (Since they like to include both it and Pac-Man on literally everything)
Obviously it would just be more preferable to have as many Namco themed games as possible on one official physical arcade cabinet, but if it was to only be Pac-Man themed, I’d do it like that.
If not though, my choices would probably be somewhere among the lines of:
1. Pac-Man
2. Ms. Pac-Man
3. Jr. Pac-Man
4. Super Pac-Man
5. Pac-Mania
6. Galaxian
7. Galaga
8. Dig Dug
9. Mappy
10. Rally-X
I’d *still* want more games than those, like Xevious, Pole Position, New Rally-X, Gaplus, Galaga '88, Bosconian, and the other Arrangement games just to name a few, but again if it *had* to be condensed to just 10 I’m the style of an Arcade1Up machine, those would be my main choices.
I was Today Years-Old when I saw that Clyde/Sue also at a time went by the name, Tim.

Oh god the credit noise scared me XD also...Jr Pac is going through ghosts in the second level..........really dude?...
I fantasized of Peter Noone, Simon Cowell and David Letterman getting so amused of saying something like, scary blue ghosts.
August 13, 1983-enter jr. pac man, a beanie wearing tyke eyeing on yum-yum-blinky’s daughter. And soon, misadventures ensue. A cult favorite, nonetheless.

+Skylinesandsunsets
No I haven't. I only played the arcade version.
Thank you! One of the best ports on the 2600 I thought. WAY better than original Pacman.
The 5200 version was never officially released but two prototypes of it had been made available in recent years.
Thanks for uploading it.
Fun Fact: While Ms. Pac-Man was gladly accepted into the Namco universe, Jr. Pac-Man wasn't. This game, along with Baby Pac-Man, wound up seeing Namco cutting ties with Bally-Midway.
fun fact: the mazes are 2 times as wide as those from other pac-man games
I like calling it baby pac-man for some reason, even as a kid.
