Good luck with the club - it's a good idea and a space for photographers which isn't on the main social media platforms deserves to succeed. I guess it'll all depend on how many people join - and this is where you might have a problem because the joining fee may be a bit rich for some people. That said, I'm sure it'll be value for money once the content flows in and I will have a look myself. Good luck, hope it works.
I really hope the club idea works for you. But some honest feedback - at almost $300 for us Aussie people I cannot see the value at this point in time. I cannot see it connecting me with more people from my region than I could get from a local FB group. I also don't see how I am going to learn more about photography than I can already learn from FB groups and RUclips. There is a limit to how many times you can hear about the dozen or so core fundamentals of photography before it just comes down to practice and developing your own skill set - and most of the time I still watch yours and other photographer RUclipsrs for the 'entertainment' value. I think for the past 20yrs we have been so flooded with online content that it is now becoming difficult to find anything fresh and new - even hard to find anything new and fresh on Netflix these days. Maybe if you added a first month is free and really hooked me with some fresh, new, entertaining, content then I would be willing to get in further with a paid membership.
I think everyone is getting a bit burnt out with RUclips. I just stick with a core group that I watch religiously(unless they’re in the office talking processing🙄). I think Thomas sees the writing on the wall and is trying to diversify. I’d pay the cash if I was over there just to throw back some Guinness with the group once in a while.
This. Maybe have a two tier membership? For locals the price maybe makes sense to get to meetups and all. For me in the US it doesn't make sense to just follow along. If it were cheaper maybe I would sign up for the challenges and contests.
@@Jimmy.Online I think, it's really more about the meetups and learning from one another. That's the reason for me not to join. Going to the UK, even from Germany, isn't cheap at all. I could simply spend that money better taking Foto trips in Germany or closer abroad. However, I would most certainly Join, if I could afford the money.
Putting the club together is an awesome idea. Get creative people together and magic happens. And using that platform to pass on decades of experience to photographers whether newbies or seasoned pros is great. Being from the States, I'm not sure how it would work for me - not much possibility of attending any meet ups or rubbing elbows. So until I see how it rolls out, I'll live as vicariously as I can from afar!
I remember you mentioning this a while back and have been waiting for it. I'll actually be moving from the US to Scotland in the next year so this will work well for me in so many ways. Thanks to you and the team for putting it together. Cheers!
The idea of the club is fantastic, getting away from the frankly uninspiring world of social media and controlling manipulation of the dreaded algorithm is brilliant. Caring duties at home have required me to leave my camera in the bag recently and I rely on a small group of UK photographers on RUclips to keep me inspired for now. The club will be a serious consideration in the future. Count me in 👍🏻
Great idea with the 617 club wish it could be a monthly pay though ...some lovely images in this video funny with the morning swimmers a similar thing happen to me a few years ago in winter when we had a very cold winter in Denmark and the water was all frozen along the coast of the Øresund strait a couple of ladies came down the jetty for a wee swim in the icy waters and mind you they did not have a swimsuit on so I waited patienly to take my shot :))
All the best for the new club Tom, I hope it’s a success for everyone involved. I’ve been primarily focused on architectural work the past 5 years but I do want to extend into landscape and seascape so joining the club might be a good opportunity to push my development in these genres
If you had made the 617 club free for the first couple of months while we can assess the value. Then add the charge. Bit like your sponsors do then this may have been a tick for me
Only been following for a few weeks, mainly cause of the delica videos but I’m also a hobby photographer and I gotta say one thing among many things that I love about your videos is the end with the final imagine vs the raw! Just so cool to see! Wish more photographers RUclipsrs did that!
The club sounds great! I was a founding member of an artist group. We met up every Sunday at a different park and painted landscapes. It was great fun but I was disabled by Lyme Disease so I have not been out in a long time. Watch out for those ticks people!!
Hmm, you might be pricing out some of the people that subscribe and already support you. As a photographer I often find myself feeling undervalued and over charged. Good luck and I'm sure you will make a success of your club.
Hi, Thomas. I live in Morpeth, not far from you. I love the Lakes but it can be overwhelming with tourism. Have you headed just up the road to the Cheviot Hills? In particular, the College Valley and Breamish Valley. They offer some fantastic photo opportunities with fells, forests, rivers, waterfalls and you’ll be lucky if you see a couple people if not any!
“You’ll be lucky if you see a couple people” And long may that continue without any RUclipsrs putting it on the map. Parts of Northumberland are already suffering with the modern increase in tourism thanks to social media with no investment in the infrastructure to support that increase. Let’s not add to it
The blackberry scene made me laugh...my wife and I were in England the last two weeks and gorged ourselves on all of the blackberries we kept finding by the roadside and in the hedgerows!
I was super interested but the price (even though it isn't that bad) is too much for me right now. Maybe in the future ! Plus being in the USA I feel like I wouldn't be able to enjoy the perks as much as someone that lives in the UK.
another great video well done . im looking forward to my trip ... finally after almost a year of planning to head away and do loads of different themed shoots will be fun
The 617 Club…Living in Lincolnshire I know all about the 617 (squadron) and the famous 617 Club supporters (Lincoln City FC supporters). You should come to the Wolds and shoot, as the 617, here in 617 land 😆

Hi Thomas. As others have said, great idea for the club but the price is prohibitive for me here in Australia by the time you build in the exchange, plus I’m a pensioner now 🙄. As for 617, I’m originally from Lincolnshire and my dad was in the RAF and we lived at Scampton for a few years, which was the home of 617 Sqn - the famous Dambusters. As Sam Atkins said, the affiliation with 617 Sqn also transfers to Lincoln City FC, and the 617 boys are the singing section of supporters of the club at every home game (and many away) - I am a very long standing supporter of The Imps (as LCFC is known) - 55 years - even though I’m living in Aus. I watch all the games live on the internet and keep up with events through various means. Anyway, good luck with the club.
Best of luck with the 617 Club. I am in the USA and so meet ups are out in the UK and probably the live Zooms with guest photographers due to the time difference and a job! I loved the image of the women swimmers - pink cap, orange and yellow buoys, the reflections, the mist. Is the You Tube channel going away? I'll be sorry to learn that it will. I've enjoyed supporting your channel and photography by buying your books and calendars, but the 617 Club may not be for me, not being able to take advantage of all it may offer. Cheers!
Hi hope all goes well with your new venture . I will keep an eye on the club and it’s progress, l won’t be joining however it’s out my reach both the cost to join and meets around the country . l have to keep my photography very local for financial and health reasons. Good luck.

UK only, I guess?
Exactly my thought. Maybe also some 1 or 3 month tiers, so people can have a look.
