Sounds like she needs to learn the rules. Thankfully they read the rules for her. There is a path to statehood. Hawaii did it to become #50 Alaska did it to become #49 So many great examples of what they need to do. Problem is they want only the benefits of statehood and not give up anything.
She knows she wanted it on the record that 4 million Americans aren’t properly represented. This isn’t the first time she’s done it. Also it’s not like you can just ask for statehood and then you get it no Congress has to approve it which we all know ain’t gonna happen.

Puerto Rico and other territories voted for overwhelmingly for statehood every referendum they hold. Who the fuck voted all of them down? The Republicans.
This actually has nothing to do with the constitution. This merely has to do with a house rule not allowing the non voting delegates to vote for the speaker as the clerk stated in the video.
@@blakekaveny, you are wrong. The Constitution vests the STATES with the ability to elect representatives. One small example is Article 1, section 4, clause 1.
DC also pays taxes but doesn't have a vote either. Some of these places could become states eventually. There is a population threshold and other hurdles. Its a difficult process. Puerto Rico has voted on statehood and it fails and Puerto Rico votes on independence and it fails. The truth is most of the time the middle ground seems comfortable. A situation works until it doesn't. People shouldn't have to move to the "mainland" to get their rights. And still your status is not automatically changed from national to citizen.
If only there was a process for a territory/colony to gain voting rights in congress. Maybe look to what Hawaii, Alaska, Philippines (they took a different route), New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington (territory), Montana, Dakota (they split into two during the process), Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, Kansas, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida, Michigan, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, Illinois, Mississippi, Indiana, Orleans (now Louisiana), Ohio, and Tennessee did. This isn't a new thing; it goes as far back as 1796 and as recent as 1959. Those with a keen eye or quick math skills will notice Kentucky and Vermont is missing from the list. They were not territories of the U.S. (Kentucky was a county of Virginia and there was a territorial dispute between New York and Vermont over the precise boundaries) and practically raced each other to become the 14th state.
@ Thats the way it’s been working yes but theirs no constitutional requirement for that though. Article 4 section 3 clause 1 says new states may be admitted into the union but no state may be made from part of another state or 2 or more states without the approval of both Congress and the relevant state legislatures. So well a petition might be standard practice and tradition it’s not constitutionally required.
Someone should tell her that the solution to her problem is actually quite simple and that there are only two options. 1) Become a state and then she will have a vote. She mentioned Puerto Rico. Us smart boys know that for decades they have declined to become a state because they want all the bennies of American citizenship but without the responsibilities of statehood. 2) We give the island back and they can become self governing and she can hoot and holler all she wants in their OWN congress,
Why are you blaming Puerto Rico and not the ones actually responsible, the United States government? We both know that for years Puerto Rico has held multiple referendums where over fifty percent of voters say they would like to become a state, yet multiple times they have been ignored by Congress. Let’s not forget that in 2022 the House of Representatives passed a bill that would have allowed Puerto Ricians to choose between Statehood, Independence, or renegotiated terms, yet the Senate ignored the bill and let it die. In fact, for a state to be added to the Union, Congress has to approve it. So let’s not act like the decision lies solely with Puerto Rico and they choose not to be a state, frankly that doesn’t make any sense that a territory would hold that much influence 😂
they can only become a state when Congress allows them so even if they want to, if Congress doesn't, then they are basically screwed. You americans dont know how your government works do ya
Congress has to approve new States. PR's been trying for decades, and they're not letting it happen. So Congress effectively decides its own membership, and has no present interest in expanding that to others.

@@MisterJax I would consider a better solution to remove residential zoning except for those buildings necessary to house the elected members of Congress. Non-elected staff and other Federal employees would need to commute to & from the District but not live there. The elected officials are still considered to be residents of their home states, so they retain voting and other rights that way. The current civilian population that isn't an elected member of Congress would of course have to move out.
Theirs actually not a process for statehood. The process is if Congress wants to do it or not
@@blakekaveny Congress doesn't spontaneously declare a territory a state; it requires a petition from that territory/colony
Hawaii and Alaska are states territories arent states. amazed all those who dont know civics
@@lovly2cu725 they were territories at one point. Nearly every state was once a territory before it was a state
Someone should tell her that the solution to her problem is actually quite simple and that there are only two options.

Declare the Federal buildings & grounds to be the District and return the rest to Maryland. Thus the residents will have statehood and their capital will be Annapolis, Maryland.
As for the Territories, get your act together and petition for statehood.
Maryland taxpayers may not wan’t to pay for what that would cost. A theory for sure but not a surefire solution.
Whacha talking about Wilson? George Washington laid out a eleven by eleven mile District of Washington, DEE CAPITOL OF DE USA.
@@dougclem7711 The Constitutional requirement is for the District to not exceed 10 miles square.
There is no minimum footprint and Virginia's land contribution was returned to Virginia long ago.
Thus, the District could be reduced to simply Capitol Hill and the White House Complex if they wanted to go to the extreme end of things and all of the remaining property would be returned to Maryland.
The whole point of the District is for it to be focused on National-level issues, not local affairs.
Ask Puerto Rico. They've had multiple votes, and Congress won't accept their petitions for Statehood. It's not politically convenient for the current Congress to accept 2 more Senators and reallocate some of the 435 seats (which is an anachronism going back 100 years) to another State. These territories also get used as tax havens and less-stringent regulatory regimes for businesses; even more incentive for the powers that be to not permit full Statehood.
